Subject: Couch's of Southeastern (Clay Co.) Kentucky - Henry, Elijah, Bent and Fannie
Author: Mark Stallings

Classification: Query
Surnames: Couch, Lawson, Scalf, Sizemore

My wifes paternal, paternal, g-grandmother was Fannie Couch. Fannie was married to Bige Lawson and some of their children were Bent, Tom, Tilman, John and Steve Lawson. I don't know the exact year or place of this Fannie Couch's birth, but I suspect that her birth year was abt. 1880 and her birth place may have been Perry, Owsley, Clay or Leslie County, Kentucky. I believe at one time she a resident of Bell County but she died possibly in Clay County, Ky.. I've seen some indications that Fannie's father was perhaps Benton "Bent" Couch who was possibly a son of Henry and Katie (Estep) Couch and a brother of Elijah and Joseph Couch. After further examination, I suspect that Fannie was more likely a sister of this Bent Couch rather than a daughter. I'm wondering if any one researching the Couch family of Southeastern Kentucky knows anything of this particular Fannie (Couch) Lawson. Also, my father in-law tells me that his grandmother Fannie (Couch) Lawson was an old mid-wife and lived with his family in Clay County when he was a boy. He recalls folks coming to get her to go and deliver babies.
