Dear Vanessa,

Many thanks for this information as I did not have the 1841 Census return which gave me further proof that this i "my Barbara". Thanks also for the Dorset OPC info. as I have not been aware of these pages and will start searching right away.

Kind regards

Eric

Hi Vanessa,

A somewhat belated and heartfelt thank you(I have been offline a while) for all the information on Trevett you kindly provided me with. Some I already had and you have added a few interesting things I had not discovered.
My search now continues with the name Burton.

Best regards

Hi Vanessa and Eric, I too am researching my Trevett / Trivet connections in Dorset. Here is part of an earlier posting.

My GGG Grandfather Abraham TRIVETT (abt 1820 - 1903) married Hannah TUCKER (abt 1825 - 1895) in Sep 1/4 1884 in Yeovil, Somerset, and was born and baptized in Litton Cheney, so it's from him backwards that I'm researching.
I think his parents were Francis TREVET (abt 1777) and Ann MAYERS (abt 1786) married in Litton Cheney in 1807. At this point I need help since there seem to be so many TREVETT's around the Litton Cheney area at this time.

The Dorset OPC, Valerie Pettifer, responded with some possible names. I have downloaded Brian Trevette's document with suggests Francis Trevet's parents were Thomas Trevet, abt 1750, and Mary Trevet abt 1750. Can either of you help with these names, also I cannot find a baptism for Thomas !

Any help or communication with other Trevett researchers would be appreciated.

Regards

Nick

Nick,

If you haven't found a baptism of your Thomas TREVETT (c 1750) in the obvious place of Litton Cheney, then you might consider the one that appears on the BVRI for a Thomas TREVET baptised at Compton Vallence on 18 Nov 1744, father John TREVET. That's only 3 miles from Litton.

Hi Duncan, thanks for that. Since the Litton Cheney baptisms are still offline I have searched round other close villages / parishes for any likely matches so any extra info. is appreciated. Now about the BVRI, can these only be accessed on disc or are they available via other sources ?
Regards

Dear Nick,

I suggest you obtain a copy of Abraham TRIVETT (sic) and Hannah TUCKER's marriage certificate in order to confirm who their fathers were.

Marriage registered Dec 1/4 1844 Yeovil District GRO Ref: 10 - 815.

Certificates are available from The General Register Office (GRO) - see www.gro.gov.uk

Abraham is on the 1841 Census in Litton Cheney, however unfortunately he is not with his parents but is listed as a male servant to a Dairyman - John Hurford:

Name: Abraham TREVETT
Age: 15 (remember ages are rounded to nearest 5 years on this census)
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1826
Gender: Male
Where born: Dorset, England

Civil parish: Litton Cheney
Hundred: Uggscombe
County/Island: Dorset
Country: England

Street Address: Litton Cheney

Occupation: Male Servant

Registration district: Bridport
Sub-registration district: Burton Bradstock

Household Members:
Name Age
Abraham TREVETT 15

Info - Ancestry.co.uk.

As there are several people on the census who might be Abraham's parents (Francis & Ann, William & Sarah or John & Mary), I wouldn't assume anything, no matter how likely it may seem.
You must check original records to confirm (or deny) any probabilities.

I see his death was registered Jun 1/4 1903 Westbury District Wilts GRO Ref: 5a - 78. (Aged 80)

This would mean he was born abt 1823/24, which tallies with other census listings.

I take it that Abraham's baptism wasn't confirmed by Valerie Pettifer the OPC for Litton Cheney, so searching the records of nearby parishes may bring it to light and therefore confirm his parentage.

Hello Jackie

JUst wondered since you have an extensive family tree on the CHIPP family if you would know of my ancestor
Elizabeth Chip married to JOseph Motyer in 1742 Buckland Ripers. I also found a death of a Betty Motyer Alias Frances
death in 1760 Chickerell, Dorset. They may be one in the same. Sorry I know nothing more of this couple but hoped you had them on your radar.
Thanks Diana Motyer
