I am trying to find the parents of this young lady. She appears in the 1871 census as a servant in an Inn in Ballantrae. She was born abt. 1855. By 1881 she is married to John Wallace b. abt 1855.
Can anyone help??

The LDS church has a Family History Center near where I live. This FHC has the 1855 BIRTHS for all 901 parishes in Scotland. If you find any BIRTH in Scotland, tell me the parish and send a name. I can find the Civil Registration which will give you a lot of extra information...1855 was the best year to have a Birth, Marriage or Death in the family, no other year had so much information on a Registration entry. Write to me at scotquester@bartnet.net if you find any 1855s for me to check. The IGI will have these births listed in it if they were indeed registered in 1855 but will only have the basic data entered in it, not the extra information, they didn't enter that into the IGI, there was no place to put it. Thank you so much for the 1861 census. It answers so many questions. Janet had a daughter Agnes Millar so we weren't sure if Millar was her married or maiden name. One piece of the puzzle is solved.
I am veeeery grateful & will have a smile on my face all day up here on the St. Lawrence River in Ontario, Canada.

Thanks Meg for being kind enough to reply & for the offer to help. I think the '61 census gave us what we needed & that will save you a trip. However, I hope your offer still stands as we progress through this family.

The offer of 1855 Births stands. Write anytime with a request and make the Subject line has 1855 somewhere in it please. The FHC also has ALL the 1855 MARRIAGES and all the 1855 DEATHS on microfilm. This covers all 901 of the Scottish parishes.

This Post will automatically gateway to the AYRSHIRE Mailing List...the List has read this offer of Lookups, but if there is anyone new as a Subscriber, the FHC near my home has all the 1855 Bs, Ds and Ms on microfilm. Send a name, a parish and an expected date and allow me 2 days. Deaths may be harder to send as they are not usually in the IGI...but ScotlandsPeople has them in an Index search, send the GROS numbers associated with anyone you have searched for.
