My great-grandmother was a Beranc. Her father was Pierre (Peter). She was named Stella Marie Beranc and was born here in Savannah, Georgia. I never knew that my great-grandmother had siblings. Stella died in the 90's. She had two daughters, Kathleen and Theresa, and a son, John. Both daughters are deceased.

I will try to see if I can find information for you. Stella is buried here in Savannah, as is Pierre. I will try to find out more information on them all.

A Golding, a drummer boy in wellington's army, eloped with Katerina Castanos, and their son emigrated to Australia where I was born.

If any of this is of interest toyou, please contact me.

Sue

Y agregan : VERDUGO CONSIDERO PRUDENTE SEGUIR EL CONSEJO. (7)

( 7 ) De Rebus Gestis, MS.- Gomara , Cronica, cap. 8. - Las Casas, Hist. de las Indias .MS., cap. 114, 115.

(9) Herrera, Hist. General , dec3,lib. I, cap.15.

I do not have a tree on line, but give what I have researched, yes, I am named after my Grandfather. Both my parents were born in cuba. My Grandfather's name was also Carlos, but not sure of the middle name. My father was an attorney for Cuba's largest sugar producer before Castro... and came to the US in 1964 via Spain. I have seen pictures of my Grandfather and he is the exact image of what I have seen on line for family members of the Horatio line...

I am early in to this research. I was born in Havana, Cuba. My name is Carlos Raul Fox. I was named after my Grandfather (Carlos), who likely has Horatio in his family tree. Have you mapped through the early 1900's ?

the story is true, it is well documented by the lecture given by the defense lawyer in the triel where Carlos De Jesus Verdugo and others were tried and wrongfully executed.
Cristoval Verdugo came with colon on his second voyage to the new found lands. this too is also documented. Melchor verdugo came to Peru with Cortez and owened many of Perus mines, by force, not by purchasing any of the land. this too is also documented.

carlos verdugo.

If you have any relatives left that still live there, no matter how distant (you can always call them cousins)you are allowed to visit them. Before, under Bush you were only allowed one visit every three years and only to visit immediate family (mother, son, sister, etc) but now you are allowed to visit as many times as you want and it does not have to be immediate family. I can get you all the information you need to arrange a trip. It is really quite an experience. I had not been back since 1961, when I left, and went back for the first time in 2003 before Bush tighten up the restrictions.

Fortunately (from my point of view) Trinidad has not changed that much from the way I remembered it. It still is a sleepy old colonial town with cobblestone streets and wonderful old houses. I still have a lot of cousins that live there, so if you go you won't feel like stranger.

Hasta pronto,

Jesus

Yes, my information is that -- well, I'll just give you what was given to me: Elena y Mercedes Giurovich y Montalvan (Yurubi) eran hermanas. Madre de ellas -- Encarnacion Montalvan y Rojas. Padre de Encarnacion -- Francisco Javier Montalvan, Madre -- Manuela de Rojas. Padre de ellas -- Juan Giurovich, natural de Italia [actually, I think of the Republic of Ragusa, Dalmatia, later controlled by Venice/Italy]. Padre de Juan -- Andres de Giurovich de Ragusa. Madre de Andres -- Elena Sergene de Ragusa.

(More on Montalvan line follows here -- father of Francisco Javier said to be Bernardo Jose Montalvan and his mother Ana Hernandez Prieto)

Actually I don't have any info on Elena's mother. That's what I meant when I told you earlier that I got mixed up. However, on my next trip to Trinidad next spring I'll make it a point to try and get some. The historian of the city is a good friend of my cousin and he should have some info on her as well as more on Guillermo Lynn.

Juan Valdespino was from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain and it is recorded in the Municipal Museum of the City of Trinidad (Palacio Cantero) that he was "Tesorero por Su Majestad y Alcalde de la Santa Hermandad en 1633. This last phrases refer to the coat of arms of the family. I am told that in Jerez de la Frontera one can still view the Valdespino house.

Alonso Vazquez was either the son or grandson of Capitan Alonso Vazquez, one of a few trinitarians that accompanied Vasco Porcallo de Figueroa to Sancti Spiritus in 1519 to repress the so-called "Comunidades". This family goes back to the founding of the city in 1514.

Hasta pronto.

Jesus

Yes, I think they were sisters. That's what it says on the note a relative sent me "Elena y Mercedes" eran hermanas."

Sounds like you have information on their mother, who would be a mutual ancestor.
We're making progress. Another relative recently sent me a note in Spanish (lucky, not very complicated Spanish) saying that my ancestor Mercedes Yurubi/Georovich/Giurovich and yours, Elena Yurubi/Georovich/Giurovich were sisters. Which is a bit odd since there is quite an age difference between them. And it also said (which I had not known)

My ancestor, Horatio Fox (who married Mercedes) was a friend of Guillermo Lynn and his wife Elena in Trinidad de Cuba, and as US Consul he interceded on Elena's behalf when she was arrested in 1870 for supporting the rebels. (Not to mention her being Gen. Sportorno's mother, it seems).

I only learned that the mother of Elena and Mercedes, Ines de Valdespino, with links beyond to the Vazquez family. So I would be very happy to have any more info. It's always great when an apparent stone wall finally opens up.

regards,

Constance Elena W.

Hi Constance,

Yes it looks like we are related. I am a direct descendant of the 10th generation of Juan Valdespino as well as a direct descendant of the 12th generation of Alonso Vazquez.

I have some information on both of those individuals which I assume you have as well, but if you don't, let me know and I'll send it to you.

Your cousin?

Jesus

Looking for the background of my father's family name (Ralphael Eugenio Barrera). His father(my grandfather) was born in Cuba on April 16, 1889. His father was from Andalucia and Leone Rosa Poree, mother was from the Canary Islands. I'm looking for my great grandfather and back. Any information would be most appreciated.
