Thanks for the prompt response.
I know my grandfather was an American citizen because my mother told me, and he said so himself. As another anecdote, my grandfather's son (my uncle) seemed to be able to travel to and from the US as a US citizen. He worked in the States and Canada.
My grandfather was born in 1898. His parents had been in the US for at least 30 years before that.
I have no official records yet, i am new to this hobby and just having the Canadian access to Ancestry is keeping me busy for the moment.
Having said that my grandfather's mother was in the US for at least ten years. Her husband was also born in Canada. Her family name appears in two Michigan census.
