MANSFIELD: Wilbur Lanier, Jr., 63, of 353 Dale Ave., died Monday, August 1, 2011 in Medcentral Health System after a brief illness.
Wilbur was born Monday May 3, 1948 to the late Wilbur and Rosie Summerville Lanier Sr. in Gordo, Alabama, (Pickens County) and had lived in Mansfield, Ohio for the past 51 years.
Wilbur received a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Southern Illinois University, and a Masters in Sports Administration from Grambling State University.
He was Physical Education teacher in the Mansfield City School System from 1974-1998, during which time he served as football, basketball and track coach.
He enjoyed sports and being involved in the growth of children and their athletic and academic abilities.
Wilbur is survived by his three siblings, Nettie Mae Davis and Curlie Lanier, both of Mansfield, Ohio; Edward Lanier, Gordo, Alabama; nieces, Joyce France, Patrice Whack, Mansfield, Denise Campbell, Pensacola, Florida, Dione France, Cincinnati, Robin Wherry, Washington D.C.; nephews, Marquis Lanier, Atlanta, Georgia, Jerry Lanier, Columbus, Ohio and Eric France, Parachute, Colorado; numerous great nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Wilbur is preceded in death by two siblings, Madie B. and David Lanier.
Friends may call Sunday, after 1 p.m. in the Ruth Anna Lee Williams Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Services where family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Services with Minister Dana Eubanks officiating.
Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery, Mansfield, Ohio.
