I have a lot of information on the above families, and am seeking more. Most of my ancestors lived right on the Burke-Screven County Line, from Murray Hill to Bethlehem Church near Girard. Any help on these families would be sincerely appreciated!

Thomas Allen's parents

Thor Egede-Nissen  (View posts) Posted: 8 Feb 2000 12:00PM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Allen, Murray, Ellison
Dorothy Murray, born 12 Nov 1800 in Burke Co., daughter of Stephen Murray, Sr., married Thomas Allen, born in GA 1801. In 1820 Thomas Allen was living next door to Hugh Allen and James P. Allen. Hugh and James P. Allen were brothers and the sons of James Allen, born 1756 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Thomas Allen was not their brother.

Thomas Allen's son, John Stephen Allen, born 1826 in Burke County, married Sarah Rebecca Ellison 29 May 1849 in Houston Co., GA. Sarah Ellison was born 1831 in Burke County, the daughter of Thomas T. Ellis(t)on and Lucretia Allen. Thomas T. Ellis(t)on was born March 1810 in Burke County, the son of Robert E. Elliston Jr., born 1762 in Culpeper Co., VA and Elizabeth (Sarah?) Hargrave, born 1767 in GA. Lucretia Allen was born 1811 in Burke County, a daughter of James Allen (above) and a sister of Hugh Allen and James P. Allen (above.)

The fact that the three Allens were living next door to each other strongly suggests a family relationship. Since Thomas Allen is not a brother, it suggests that he could be a first cousin. In addition, both Hugh Allen and Thomas Allen served as clerks of court and all three Allen's were active in starting up schools in Houston County, although Thomas Allen was involved with a different school than Hugh and James. Literacy tended to run in families back then.

I'm seeking suggestions about who Thomas Allen's parents might be. Thanks in advance for all help.

Elliott Davis Lovett and Deloach mystery

Hi,
My Grandfather, Will Gibson Elliott, married Hattie Lovett and his brother, Ben, married Hattie's twin, Mattie. I have a picture of a Viola Lovett, but I have no idea who she is/was. The picture was in my Mother's photos when she passed away.
When Hattie was killed by lighting, my grandfather married my grandmother, Cora Lee Davis. Mother always told me she was related to the DeLoachs also. Would like any information that could help me with this part of the family tree.

Sorry. I don't know if any members of this ALLEN family owned slaves. They were educated, however, and better off than others. I assume that they did own slaves.
