WEALTH UNKNOWN UNTIL DEAD
The Greensburg Record-Herald gives an interesting account of the death of George Pierce near Crab, in Green county, who lived a bache¬lor life, and was understood to be a very poor man until he became des¬perately ill and declined to go to the expense of having a doctor. On the return of neighbors the next morning, they found the doors to his cabin barred, the door was forced open carefully as it was known Mr. Pierce had fire arms in the house.
When entrance was made, the man was found delirious, with a loaded pistol under his pillow, and a loaded shotgun nearby. In his coat pocket was found a pocketbook. and $1,000 in bills. It was learned that before his death he told a friend he had some money in a wagon thimble but was afraid to go to it for fear some-body would see him.

Mr. George PIERCE, better known as Georgia died in apparent destitute circumstances at his home, an isolated log cabin, near Grab, last Tuesday night at the age of 67. He was never married. He was sick with pneumonia for several days before his neighbors discovered his illness. When it was discovered by his nearest neighbors, Mr. Gilbert SLINKER he suggested that he have a doctor but Mr. Pierce declined the Idea. Home remedies were administered by Mr. Slinker and his son, on returning the next day they found the door barred. Other neighbors were summoned and an entrance door was forced. When it was discovered Mr. Pierce was in a delirious state of mind and knowing that Mr. Pierce kept a revolver and shot gun in his house. Mr. Pierce obtained the revolver from under his pillow and a shot gun that rested nearby. Death overtook him a few hours later and when the body was being prepared for burial an overcoat was found wrapped around his feet, which revealed over $1000.00 in currency tightly rolled in one of the pockets. Before he died Mr. Pierce said he had more money buried in a wagon thimble but was afraid to go to it for fear he would be seen. A pocket book was also found which contained less than $3 in change. Mr. Pierce was well thought of in the community and was survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sol KESSLER and Mrs. Lawrence LILE of Colesburg. Two brothers, Billy PIERCE of Campbellsville and James PIERCE of Danville, Ill.

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the info on George. I have been looking for his marriage forever. I am connected to Elizabeth Slinker who is my great-grandfather Paschal Perry Slinker's older sister. Long story on old Pakie, he changed his name to Sinclair about 1901 when he moved to Princeton.
You are the only person other than me that has Sarah Elizabeth Slinker married to James. Which, I actually was looking for Missouria Slinker who married Thomas D. Smith before 1858 and happen upon your info. I am trying to find Missouria's parents, I have a son born as Lewis V. Slinker instead of Smith on March 21, 1858 in Barren Co. KY that I found today.
Again, thanks for the info on George!
