Who were the parents & spouse of Abbie Slusher Gross?
Death certificate of Abbie Gross: married, b. 1884, d. 1918 Harlan; father Marion Slusher; informant John B. Gross. An Abbie Slusher (age 7) is listed in the 1900 Harlan census as a granddaughter to Marion & Elizabeth Slusher. I believe Abbie may have actually been the d/o Mary Slusher, who was the d/o Marion & Elizabeth Slusher. Mary was also living in Marion's household in 1900. Mary married 1st a Saylor, 2nd to Hiram Simpson in 1904 Harlan. At the taking of the 1910 census, Mary Simpson is found as head of household with daughter Abbie Simpson, sons James & Lee Saylor/Sayler & Henry Simpson. Mary md. 3rd William Bingham and died in Clay Co.
I searched my files for a possible candidate for John B. Gross. The only one I have of age to be Abbie's husband was married to someone else at the time. This leads me to believe that the informant may have been a relative other than husband. I also have a John Berry Gross, who was only 11 yrs old at the time of Abbie's death. This John Berry Gross can be located in the 1910 census with William & Sarah Gross and listed as their son, however, in the 1920 Bell census he is listed as a boarder along with a Sarah Gross age 5. Per the KY birth registrations a Sarah Gross was born in 1916 Harlan to Abbie Slusher.
