Mary "LaVerne" Howell Feeney, 77, of East Brunswick, NJ passed away peacefully on September 24, 2009 at home with her family at her side. Born July 10, 1932 in Lee County, KY but raised in Ohio, LaVerne moved to NJ in her late teens and lived with two of her older sisters, Chris and Pat. She met her husband Walter and they were married on October 2, 1954. Soon after, they moved to Florida and lived there for 5 years before returning to Woodbridge, NJ. After returning to NJ, LaVerne was employed by RCA in Avenel and over the years worked in office administration for various organizations such as Sears, The Cittone Institute and the Woodbridge Public Library. For a short period, she ran the Feeney Boarding Home in Woodbridge. Upon retirement, LaVerne and her husband moved to Anderson, SC for 15 years and then to The Villages, FL for 7 years prior to returning to NJ in June of 2009. LaVerne will be remembered for her passion for collectibles-decorative plates, ornaments, Beanie babies and art, just to name a few. Though she suffered with many health issues, she maintained her sense of humor and wit and entertained those caring for her to the very end. LaVerne was pre-deceased by her parents Vollie and Ethel Durbin Howell, her sisters Shirley Philips, Christine Pells, Elsie "Pat" Evans, Lola "Faye" Morris and her brothers Ora Lee Howell, Luther Howell and Mitchell Howell. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and in particular her nephew Dr. R. Stephen Evans, who was like a son to her, and his wife Karen. Services will be private. Donations in memory of LaVerne may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, 176 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, NJ 07701.
