Does anyone know why Elizabeth McGuffin Ables Bearden's oldest daughter "Mary Elizabeth Ables" is often missing from family files? Even though there were similarities in their names it is not likely for Elizabeth McGuffin Ables Bearden to have married Nathaniel Pickens Cole since her last names was Ables Bearden not Ables Cole Bearden (notwithstanding the age differences). I am begining to wonder if our Mary Elizabeth Ables m. Nat. "Pick" Cole might possibly be other kin instead of daughter to Betty, though my dad's family always connected the two. Send me info if you can provide another possibility, anyone. I am going to look for that article on Betty again though.

I am a direct descendant of both William White, Sr., William "Billie" White, Jr. Milton White, Eliza White (Shropshire) and Emily Dora White. I am interested in finding out about the Swilling family. Am I correct in reading this, that Martha Swilling was a Yeldon, and not a direct descendant of the Swillings but married into the family??? Any light you can shed on this subject is much appreciated. Thank you.

Imagine inserting a DVD into a PC’s drive and watching the webpage at http://www.sciway3.net/scgenweb/oconee-county/goldencornerge... appear on the monitor. Then you simply double-click on the subject that you want to research. If the person doesn’t own a PC, they can always use one at a library or neighbor’s house. This might sound like a good idea, but other than libraries, no one has shown any interest in my project. However, I continue to add additional links to this webpage and it will always be available on-line.

Do you know of any links that should added?

Paul M Kankula - NN8NN
gcgenweb@bellsouth.net
GoldenCorner GenWeb Project Coordinator
There is an on-line data base which was done by Ross M. Smith in the 1960's named " Book of the Dead"by Ross M. Smith. It is a survey of Anderson County Cemeteries and it can be searched by name or by cemetery as well. It was transcribed by volunteers and graciously placed on line for researchers. It is most helpful. It can be found by doing a " Google" Search for " Book of the Dead" by Ross M. Smith, Anderson Co., S. C. and it will be one of your first search results. Hope everyone will find it as helpful as it has been to me. I use it every day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if my history timeline is correct...Elizabeth McGuffin Ables Bearden (dob:1808) (may have been Mary Elizabeth) was married to William Ables, had four kids and was widowed. Then she married William Beaden and had more kids. Her oldest daughter was Mary Elizabeth Ables(dob:1825) and she married Nathaniel Pickens Cole(dob:1828. SO Betty Bearden would have been grandmother to my William Hartwell Cole. There was a newspaper article on her right before she passed away or maybe right after? We have a pretty extensive family history but only as far back as Nathaniel Pickens Cole. We think his father may have been Sidney Cole who married a Charlotte Lee Myers. Sidney is reputed to have a brother name Major Cole and the two brothers married sisters, Sarah and Fannie Jones. Sarah died young and Sidney got remarried to Charlotte. Where Sidney and Charlotte came from is a mystery and we have no solid proof that we are on the right track there. As far as sibling go for Nat Pickens Cole the only child I have record of is Allen Jones Cole (1823), the child that was born to Sidney and Sarah (Jones) Cole before Sarah died. I am sure there were more though. However, Nat Pickens Cole and wife Mary Elizabeth had several...
S. M.-1852 [I believe these initials were either for Samuel Major Or Sidney Major but I have been wrong before!]
William Hartwell-1854
John Franklin-1856
Miriam/Maude A.-1858
Frances(Fannie) E.-1860
Laura E.-1861
Jesse Pickens-1864
Charlotte J.-1866
Lina A._1868
James Hillary-1869
Julia S.-1871
Mary Alice-1872
Martha(Mattie)-1874

As far as the next family member that is easy to locate...the descendants of Jesse Pickens Cole were spread about the area and many are still in Sc and some to Tx and Ak
Lisa

I found in an old booklet compiled on the Cole Family the following: Thomas S. Cole b. 1 Oct 1840 d 6 March 1926 m. Elisabeth Dean b 26 June 1848 d 30 Oct 1935 Children: William S. Cole m. Tommie Gray, Jeff Cole m. Sara Lucy Reed, Iola Pearl Cole m. Andrew Bradberry, Dunk Cole m. Emma Bradberry, Andrew (Bub) Cole m. Emma Milford. I have some dates and some of the grandchildren of Thomas S. Cole and Elisabeth Dean Cole. Is this the line you were asking about? If so, one of his brothers was J. William Cole, my ancestor.

Now I can remember where I had heard the name before..."Betty Bearden" is placed as Mother's Maiden Name on a death cert for William Hartwell Cole. "Pick" Cole was claimed as father (which is correct if "Pick" is Nat. Pickens Cole) but I understand that "Betty Bearden" or Elizabeth McGuffin Ables Bearden would have been William Hartwell Cole's grandmother not his mother. Am I correct?

I am interested in your Cole family in Anderson Co., SC. My grandmother, Lila J. (Cole) Skinner was dau. to Frank Leslie Cole, he was son to William Hartwell Cole and he was son to Nathaniel Pickens Cole and Mary Elizabeth Ables. N. P. Cole's father may have been Sidney Cole who had brother named W. Major Cole. These two brothers married Sarah and Fannie Jones. If your family might even be close I would appreciate a heads up. There are so many Coles in this area it is hard to pinpoint who is related to whom!

Lisa

If anyone is in the Mobile, Al. area, please check the Basicillica of the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception for the marriage records of Dr. William Ebenezer Kennedy. I have been told he identifies his mother as Josie Maria Dick Kennedy. Any help would be appreciated.

I know lots of people that have nicknames that will go with them to their graves. I am one of those. I will let everyone know if I find anything useful.

I come into the Kennedy family from Mary Dick Hinson (Josia Marie Dick) who married Dr. Joseph Kennedy. I would like to know if you have any information to half-way prove Maxfield had the first name of Silas. I have seen so much pro and con.
This Mary Kennedy had a daughter Mary Louise that married James Barr. Their children would be whole cousins and the Kennedy children half cousins. Thanks, LaVerne

I have some photos, too. Maybe we have different ones. Please e-mail me directly at sewandsew12345@aol.com. Which of his children do you descend from? I have quite a bit of research on J.M.C. "Jerry" Cole. He was my great-grandfather. I descend from George Pickens Cole and Nellie Murray Cole. I can't wait to hear from you. I will happily share photos and info I have.
