To gingermal, ( don't know your name yet) I posted a while back to you. I have alot of Heape and Malphrus names. The one that I am interested in is Ella Jane Malphrus (my g g grandmother) who married William Henry Heape. Marriage date unknown. I do however have pics of their family bible with children. I also have a pic of him but none of her, and have some extensive info on her family near Hampton, S.C. Also have pics of their (William and Ella Jane)graves in Lakeland,Ga. along with census info. Have more info. I would love to locate a picture of Ella as it was removed frome the family bible and I never saw it.

I have been trying to connect the Sanders/Fishburne of Colleton Co., with mine. Lambert Sanders came to S.C. c. 1678, had sons William, Samuel and Peter I. Peter II married Elizabeth Fishburne. I think it's possible the William Sanders/Saunders of Colleton Co. was the brother of Lambert. Lambert's land grant was in present day Berkeley co. and possible Williamsburg Co. between Moncks Corner and Kingstree. Peter and Elizabeth were married at St. Phillips in Charleston. [I was a Moorer and my mother was a Sanders] If any of you can help me make the connect that would be great,

In 1866, shortly after the War Between the States, he worked
laying rails for the Charleston-Columbia Railroad. He eventually moved to
Charleston rapidly establishing himself in the business community." Several
more paragraphs follow on his funeral business. "Jesse Mercer Connelley
died 5 March 1913 and was buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston, SC. Mackey, Mr. William W. Moore, Mr. George W. Bolger, and Mr. Wade Hampton Dukes, the process of organizing the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association formally began; and

Whereas, in 1899, Mr. Connelley was elected the first president of the newly formed association at its first Annual Convention. He was also the moving spirit behind the law passed by the State Legislature requiring the examination for embalmers. Therefore, as a tribute to his authorship of the work of embalming in the State, he was issued license number one for embalmers from the State Board of Health; and

Whereas, in an article from The Sunnyside Magazine, New York, dated October 1, 1899, the following remarks were made concerning the formation of the new association, "The newly organized undertakers' association of South Carolina starts out with every prospect of a long and prosperous career. All the officers are young and progressive funeral directors, and are thoroughly up with the times."; and

The South Carolina Funeral Directors Association has dedicated itself to establishing the finest legislative, continuing education, pre-need trusting, and emergency preparedness programs in the nation; and

Whereas, in 1998, after one hundred years of public service, the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association continues its "prosperous career". The South Carolina Funeral Directors Association has grown in its one hundred year history from organizing those few "visionary" leaders of yesterday to a strong association approaching five hundred individual members today with a deep commitment to serving the families of this State; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is extremely proud of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association on reaching this milestone and look forward to hearing of its accomplishments in years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their sincere congratulations to the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association on the occasion of its One Hundredth Anniversary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association.

-----XX-----

http://www.scstatehouse.net/sess112_1997-1998/bills/5216.htm

More About JESSE MERCER CONNELLEY:
Burial: March 05, 1913, MAGNOLIA CEMETERY
Cause of Death: HEART ATTACK
Census: 1880, CHARLESTON, CHARLESTON COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA
Medical Information: STROKE
Occupation: 1880, COLLECTOR, MACHINE COMPANY
RESIDED: 1880, 31 BULL STREET

Notes for ANNE ELIZABETH BROOKBANKS:

File No: 329 Roll Number: 0000001 Frame: 329 License No:
First Party
Name: CONNELLEY , JESSE M Sex: M Race: WHITE
Second Party
Name: BROOKBANKS , ANNA E Sex: F Race: WHITE
Type of Document: Marriage License or Return of Marriage
Marriage Date: 7/ 3/1878
Microfilm Date:

South Carolina Death Index, 1915-1949
Name: Anne E Connelley
Death Date: 20 Jul 1928
Age (Years): 78
Estimated Birth Year: 1850
Gender: Female
Color: White
County of Death: Charleston
Volume Number: 19
Certificate Number: 11953

FOUND AN ANNA M. HUGH BANKS6 TANT III (HUGH BANKS5, REBECCA *EMMA*4 CONNELLEY, WILLIAM *LAWTON*3, JOHN2, MR.1) was born June 25, 1949 in CHARLESTON, CHARLESTON COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA. He married CHRISTINE LEE RITLAND. She was born June 27, 1951 in DES MOINES, POLK COUNTY, IOWA.

Notes for HUGH BANKS TANT III:
'Dancing General' triple steps through illustrious military career
By Rob Young (Contact)
The Post and Courier
Saturday, May 5, 2007

His cell phone rings and Gnarls Barkley roars.
"I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind."
It's quite the ringtone for a retired brigadier general.
An unlikely selection for shag music, too.
But Hugh Tant and his wife love dancing to the song.
Does that make him crazy?

During his time at the Pentagon, Tant would shag through the hallways in full uniform, drawing stares, a few laughs and an apt sobriquet.
"The Dancing General," his colleagues called him.
He took his act across the globe, dancing in Iraq, doing the triple step in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
"It just kind of lifts the spirits," he says.

And to think, Tant once managed $44 billion, two-thirds of the Army's budget. He even helped provide the foundation for a new Iraqi economy as the U.S. director of the Iraqi Currency Exchange. Now, he chairs Mount Pleasant's War Memorial Study Committee, guiding the effort to build a $12 million waterfront park.

But then, Tant, a senior vice president at Southeast Community Bank, has no room for half-truths or secrets. In all things, be yourself. And if the Dancing General fits, wear it.
"It's like being pregnant," he says. "Either you are or you're not."

'A blessing'

Tant, a Mount Pleasant native, crisscrossed America and the globe during his military days, moving 19 times. Here's his most important stop: Fort Campbell, Ky., 1973.
There, he spied a young Army nurse in white uniform, white stockings, her legs crossed, one foot dangling.
"I felt like a largemouth bass," Tant jokes.
It wasn't a storybook setting, merely a classroom instead. The course: vehicle accident prevention. Still, Tant was smitten.
No ring, he noticed, but Christine Ritland was writing a letter. He craned his neck to spot the salutation: Dear Mom and Dad.
Relief. No boyfriend. Though her parents had warned her about Army guys. Tant tried to talk to her each break. No luck.

Then finally, the course done, he made a joke to friends. "We've just seen all these gruesome accidents," he told them. "I was thinking about selling my horse. I think I'll just sell my car instead."
Guess who was listening?
"Oh, do you have a horse?" Chris asked. Her family kept a horse on their farm in Iowa.
Tant saw his opening. "I'd bet you'd like to go horseback riding, wouldn't you?"
Eventually, they did. And eventually Tant sold the same horse. It fetched its owner enough money to buy a beautiful wedding ring for his bride.
It's fair to say it turned out OK. He and Chris celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary last month.
"It was a blessing," Tant says. "I had prayed to meet a wonderful woman and God answers prayers."

Delivery under fire

In Chris, Tant found the perfect partner, someone supportive and accomplished in her own right. Chris retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel, spending eight years in active service, 22 years in reserve.
Together, they raised twin daughters, now grown. Elizabeth Tant Angerman graduated from West Point, Anna Tant from the University of Richmond with honors.

The family moved to Mount Pleasant in the early '80s during Tant's stint as a Citadel instructor. Though soon Tant left for Fort Bragg, where he served with the 82nd Airborne division. They rented their home for 18 years, then returned in 2001 when Tant retired.
He had just moved back to the area when a plane crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, killing 33 people in his former sector.
"That was depressing to me," he says. "And then I saw our soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq — those were my former units."

Tant still felt bound by duty. So he leapt when Paul Bremer, then the U.S. administrator of Iraq, asked him to lead the effort to switch the Iraqi currency in 2004.
Consider the challenge. Tant needed to dispose of 13,000 tons of paper currency and import more than 2,300 tons from abroad.
"Everybody said we wouldn't be able to do it," Tant recalls.

Instead, Tant and 700 others he directed finished the job in a few months.
"It normally takes two to three years to bring on a new currency in peace," he says. "My guys did it (in) six months."
They did so under hostility. His men dealt with frequent ambushes, especially in Samarra. Just two weeks before Saddam Hussein's capture, insurgents attacked again. This time, Tant had asked for extra assistance, 10 tanks, four infantry fighting vehicles, an Apache helicopter and an Air Force A-10 Warthog. A 45-minute battle ensued, and in the end, at least 46 insurgents lay dead. Tant's men still succeeded, transferring their load, two large shipments. He and his team also had a new motto: Delivery under fire.

Still shagging

After all these years, he's still shagging. Tant and his wife took second place in the Mount Pleasant Blessing of the Fleet's shag contest last weekend. The past five years, they've finished first three times and second twice.
Tant, 57, has always enjoyed competition. In the military, he challenged new officers or soldiers to push-up contests. He was beaten only once as a Citadel instructor by cadet Norm Engard.
"I beat him two hands, then we went to one hand," Tant says. "I think we were around the 30th rep on the left arm when he got me."

He still works out at home, a routine from his days as a former state light heavyweight weight-lifting champion.
"See, grab here," Tant says, flexing his bicep.
Just don't get too close. He keeps a few kicks in his arsenal. Tant learned the moves in Seoul, Korea, studying for his black belt in tae kwon do.
In his work and avocations, Tant's allegiance and dedication endure. "In all things, tell the truth," he says.
He's lived by those words.

Reach Rob Young at 937-5518 and ryoung@postandcourier.com.

THERE IS A STREET NAMED TANT STREET IN NORTH CHARLESTON.

Subject: Tant, etc Research
Date: 4/6/2008 5:11:30 P.M. I thought you wanted all the lines traced as far back as possilble and you know with each new person there are the parents. I did not know you only wanted those 5 because there are several more now and still the Jacksons.
Agreed. I will discontinue the other lines researching for Revolutionary War connections and devote to only those 5 lines. I sent you a couple of those and you did not respond about not wanting that information.
I sent you information on the Carroll's to where they migrated to Chester County, Pennsylvania then to York (Chester) District, South Carolina and the main sight for the Carroll lineage in Ireland but am still trying to find *documented* proof of the ship they arrived. This is where I could have found a connection to Charles Carroll, The Signer. I thought that was important of each line.
I have sent out several emails for the copy of Lady Jennet Swansey's Will, as I have of many people, and no one seems to have it. The person who claimed to have it has died. I have mentioned this to you before. I believe I sent you the site in the Archives in Columbia if you cared to write for the copy.
This is not something I take lightly and I do your research about 8 hours a day. Once you get to trying to go to Europe it gets harder and more involved.
Sarah McWhorter was married to Jeremiah Carroll....the information below is about her family. Sarah McWhorter's parents are Alexander McWhorter and Mary Stewart which brings in another line...the Stewart's, which is history of your ancestors there. Notice they are in Chester Co., PA where the Carroll's were.
When going into the new lines there is sometimes connections you are looking for in a previous line because of all the intermarring.
Once you said we could not correspond with your email at work, you were not as active in this as you once were. I mentioned to you on several occasions that I missed you being involved more.
Anyway, I mentioned I found a new William Tant that the Tant researchers did not have. That was a step further back.
I'm still struggling with the Connelley's but have feelers out on this name as well.
There is not much on the Steedly's but I am still looking.
The Carroll's are where they immigrated even though the name was spelled Carrell on several papers including Wills.
The Cameron's have been a challenge as well.
You had all the easy information. The further back one goes, the more time is involved.
Now that you are clear on only wanting those names, I will continue until I feel I cannot get any further.

Joy

In a message dated 4/6/2008 10:29:58 A.M. James and Arthur Stewart were on the list of taxables of Londonderry (formerly part of Nottingham) township, Chester County, PA, in 1735. James Stewart/Stuart of Londonderry township dated his will Feb. 26, 1752, and it was proved Apr. 15, 1752. William Stuart and Matthew Young wer named executors --- James divided his plantation equally between his sons John and Robert, and provided for his wife Margaret and his minor daughters Agnes, Jean and Mary. The widow Margarete evidently rermoved to York County, SC . The will of Margaret Steward of Camden District, SC undated, "being sick and weak in body," was proved at the April court, 1790, in York County, SC., (formed from the Camden district in 1785). She named as executor "my beloved son, Alexander McWhorter"; the witnesses were Moses Ferguson and John Young. She gave to James Young's children L20 in Pennsylvania money, and to Alexander McWhorter's children the same. "Which said money is in the hands of my son-in-law, James Young; to her daughter Mary, bed and furnishings". Alexander McWhorter, named as executor, was dead in 1790, and the May court, 1793, gave administration on Margaret's estate to widow Mary McWhorter, Agnes Young and James Young, Jr. These three gave bond may 6, 1793, with John Barron and Elijah Fleming as sureties. John Barron (who married Jane Duncan) was appointed guardian Oct. 14, 1790, of Mary Duncan, an orphan, and James Young, Sr., was one of the bondsmen, and July 10, 1793, as administrator (of John Duncan), he sued Mary McWhorter and Shadrach Rawls. James Young, Sr., in his will May 10, 1793, gave his daughter Agnes money due him in Pennsylvania. One of the witnesses to the will of James Young, Jr. Aug. 3, 1809, was John Starr.
James and Margareet's children:
John
Robert
Agnes m. James Young, Sr.
Jean
Mary m. Alexander McWhorter

Based on this and other info I constructed the attached descendant outline for James Stewart of Scotland.

Any thoughts?
John

----- Original Message -----
From: EUZELIA@aol.com
To: johnandlil@charter.net
Sent: Friday, April 04, 2008 7:22 PM
Subject: Re: McWhorter Line

I don't know who is correct here, but I found Alexander to be the father of , Nancy, married Shadrack Rawls.
I have read that site on numerous occasions and I am not sure of some of some of the work.
1787 Land Plat SC Archives and History - Fisk

Thank you to the South Carolina Archives for providing me with a land plat for R. Campbell that shows 2 tracts of land. One in Colleton the other in Ninety Six.

For those interested in the Fisk line, this plants them firmly in Colleton county pre-1787. (And not necessarily with the Fisks of Abbeville)

other names shown:

Burn, Duncan, Campbell, Fisk, Mitchell, and Murry

To those interested in obtaining records from the Archives (Some are available on-line). It was very easy, just click on the request queries follow the instructions, pay a small fee, and a week later my document arrived in the mail.

www.archivesindex.sc.gov/onlinearchives/RecordDetail.aspx?Re...
