Yes, I'm still interested. My son-in-law's grandfather was Samuel Rushing, ca 1867-1962 in Seymour, Baylor Co. He married Annie Plumlee. I have him listed as son of Hiriam M. Rushing. I've put it together mostly by what the family knew, census and other records. May I sent it to you to help me verify and correct it?

haynesd@windstream.net

Thank you for the information .... does the book give dates as to when JM died? Are you sure its a man? She had a daughter Jean Whisinant, so the Whisinant name is her ex-husbands name. The 1930 census messes up the spelling and it was a guess as to what it was. The daughter is listed as Jean H, but with handwritting the way it is... it could be an 'M'. Does it list dates?

Thank you so very much for the added info!

Rosie

Although they lived in Pecos City, Reeves Co, and he was the Justice of the Peace in Pecos, he and his wife Mattie were buried in Dundee Cemetery.

Is there anyone who would be willing to take a photo of the graves for me?
I'm afraid that I don't have a lot on the McSpaddens. I was mainly trying to find out more info on Lydia Bruner McSpadden. She was my grandmother's (Ida Bruner) sister and I thought that her descendants could help me find out more Bruner info. Now that being said, I do have SOME photos and info that may help you. Give me a few days to get it together and I'll get back with you. The Willie Anderson you mention was more than likely related to Lydia and Ida's sister Maye. She married an Anderson. I'll be glad to send you what I have.

Im trying to find out more on SJ and his parents, grandparents, etc. My grandmother, Iris McSpadden was married to Weldon and her dad was a Blakley, her mom was a Walker. Martin Luther Blakley and Maggie Walker. Ive found alot on the Walkers but still need help with the Blakleys if you know anything.
Also trying to find out more on the Andersons. I found a census from 1930 listing Willie Anderson living with SJ and Lydia McSpadden.
Thanks
Allen Luther Colvin

Allan,
Thanks for the information. Do you know of any way I can find information on his 2 children, James Edwin and Ellen Maie. I think James Edwin may have married a woman named Helen Frances but I do not have a last name. His daughter Ellen married a McGlasson but I don't have any other information about them. I got Ellen's married name from her mother's death certificate, which I found on line with information from Julie. I am hoping to find a family member and may be they will have photos.
Thanks again, Kay

I have Palmer Archer born Dec 5, 1884 in Beaumont, TX, died July 3, 1952 in Houston, TX married Harriett "Hattie" May Becton (my grandfather's sister) born Jan 13, 1889 in NC and died Apr 2, 1971, Houston, TX. They had a son James Edwin Archer born April 5, 1911 in Washington, DC who may have married a Helen Frances (last name unknown) who was born 1908 in Portsmouth, NH. They had a daughter named Ellen Maie Archer born Jan 26, 1916 in Houston, TX. I don't have any other info on Ellen Maie Archer. I also have Palmer's parents and his dad's siblings, his grandparents and great grandparents. I would love to know where they were buried. And yes he was a doctor so it is possible he was your doctor. I would love to have photos of any of them also. They lived on Crawford Street or Road in Houston, TX per the 1920 & 1930 Census.

1880 census shows that Martha B Carrington was living with Charles B & Rush W Carrington, and a servant named Kate Martin, in St. Louis county Missouri at 824 Angelica St. MapQuest shows this is in an area immediately south of Calgary Cemetery, a Catholic cemetery which adjoins the Methodist cemetery, Bellefontaine. However, I can't find any burial listings online that include the name Carrington - apparently nobody has done a complete survey of the cemetery, or perhaps some of the records have been lost.
The 1910 and 1920 census records show Rush W. Carrington as a single man, living as a boarder in KCMO working in real estate, but have not found a Charles Carrington yet.

Has anyone been able to locate Ennis, Martha & Family in the 1870 census? Frank too? I haven't been able to find them yet. I have tried every set of variables I can think of and every state that I can think of (IL, MO, TX, AR, WI).

I found this story about their foster Child Mary Jane Mitchell (listed in 1860 census) that says "Family history tells that Mary Jane's mother was a full blood Cherokee Indian. She died when Mary Jane was 5 years old. Her father gave her to Ennis and Martha Carrington to raise. Her father and 3 or 4 brothers went on into Texas. Mary Jane ran away with the grocery delivery boy when she was 15 years old" (Right around 1870) "Albert (Qualls) the delivery boy died of TB in 1881 in Oswego, Kansas." I have found Mary Jane in the 1880 Oswego, KS census with Husband TG Qualls and beyond with 2nd Husband Abraham Craft in Missouri and Arkansas but I can not find her either in the 1870 census. The oldest child listed in the 1880 census was born in Arkansas (abt 1873) and the rest in Kansas.

Anyway there does seem to be a Texas link for Frank A. per the story that lends itself to thinking he is the right one. I just would love to find them in the 1870 census!

Hi again everyone ! I am so excited that you both have jumped in to share. Virginia and Angelica Gear were twins and my Great-Great Grant Aunts. I descend from William Titus Gear, their eldest brother. Virginia married Arthur Carrington. My Arthur Armstrong Carrington and Virginia had three children: Walter Clay Carrington (b. 1846-d.1847 in Galena Illinois), Julia who married Victor Strong, and Frank (born 1851 in Wisconsin or Arkansas).

I am trying to locate Frank through the records after he and Julia were rescued. The shipwreck records and survival cites Frank as being of Ark.
But, his older sister Julia is listed as born in Wisconsin. Then, the family who lived in Illinois -> Wisconsin -> intent to California. So, why would Frank have been born in Arkansas? Did Arthur and his wife Virginia go to Arkansas from Illinois, then on to Wisconsin? Wisconsin is where many of Virginia's other Gear family moved to mine after Galena. So, you see, Frank is my mystery. As well as Charles Gear's wife Hannah Hutton. I can't see where the "Clay" name comes into the family line, yet repeats into my branch and later generations. I wonder is Hannah Hutton was a possible first marriage, and her maiden name was Clay.

Anyone know anything about Charles and Hannah?
Any more details about Elizabeth, who married Timothy - Arthur's brother - who was waiting for him in California before the shipwreck?

Help me find Frank if you can :-)
thanks, Donna

Actually I am not a direct descendent of Asa and Lucinda. I descend from Lucinda's brother Aeneas Sharp Galbraith Sr. through his son Arthur D. Galbraith. I started looking at this family 2 days ago because I am in the process of cleaning up my FTM file on the Galbraiths (ex. comparing my paper records to my FTM file to ensure everything is sourced and documented) so I can share it with a Pumphrey researcher. I also wanted to update it with DNA information since it has been proven that Arthur b. 1728 does not descend from James b. 1667 like so many books and research indicate.

Anyway, I found that for Lucinda I had documentation on her marriage, the will obviously, and the famous letter but I had no census or land records linked to her and her family. I decided to work on that and found the information you have. Because I hadn't found the article yet on the shipwreck (I have now - NY Times and Daly News), I thought my find on the Arkansas land purchase in 1855 was a connection. I have to do more research to see if there are any other Arthur Armstrong Carrington's around in Arkansas at that time. It would be helpful also to know where in Arkansas his son Frank was born. Do you know?
Also, there is a marriage record for a Lucinda Carrington in Grant, WI on January 5, 1847 to an Edward Cronin. Have you linked this Lucinda to a family yet?

We can talk more via email (loveandchu@aol.com) but I thought it was important to share with everyone my connection and my additional questions:)

Asa & Lucinda's family consisted of Joseph Galbraith b~1810, Minerva b~1811,Arthur Armstrong b~1815, Nancy b~1816, Timothy Edgerton b1817 (this family is my direct line), Polly L, Hiram W, C Mahulda, Ennis b1824, Margaret H. The Asa you have in Montgomery Kentucky (Mt Sterling) I strongly believe to be this family. They were a couple of doors from Millie Carrington, widow of Samuel. Both families came originally from Charles Co Maryland. I have not been able to ascertain their exact relationship. Asa died ~1829 and Widow Lucinda moved her family to Illinois and in the mid-late 1830's to Grant Co Wisconsin, where they were miners. During the gold rush, Timothy left his wife Elizabeth (nee Tyree?) & son Asa with Arthur's family. Apparently, Elizabeth followed Timothy and Arthur went back for his family when the shipwreck ensued. Since this Arthur died in 1853, it seems unlikely that the land grant you show in 1855 is him.
How are you related to this family? Let me know if you would like to trade more info: motherearth@att.net
Thank you for your post. The Arthur A Carrington you list with his wife Virginia Gear, I believe is the son Arthur Armstrong Galbraith Carrington of Asa Carrington b. abt 1787 and Lucinda Galbraith b. 1791. Arthur A. is in Scott, IL as early as 1830 (listed on Land Grants with his mother Lucinda and siblings). He is then listed as Arthur Armstrong Carrington with a land grant in 1845 in Grant, WI (his mother and siblings are there too). I am curious however what you think about the land grant issued 1855 in Johnson, AR to an Arthur Armstrong Carrington - is this a different one?

Lucinda is listed in her father's Arthur Galbraith's will dated 2.23.1818 as Lucinda Carrington. Lucinda's brother Joseph willed to Lucinda's first born Joseph Galbraith Carrington a child born to his negro slave in 1811. It is believed that Lucinda was born in Hawkins, TN (where the wills were also proven) but most of her siblings were born Pennsylvania and Virginia as the family made their way to Hawkins, Lucinda and Asa were married in 1807 according to a US Marriage Records index, some trees show 1809 in Hawkins. There is an Asa Carrington (indexed as Ada Carrington in Ancestry) in the 1820 Montgomery, Kentucky census with a large family but it looks like this Asa may be too old? It could be the family however before they moved to Illinois.
There is a possible correction to be made.

Found an F A Carrington on the census reports late last night. He was age 28, born in Arkansas, parents born in Virginia, living in Tarrant county Texas (Ft. Worth), listed as a single man working as a hack driver.

Unless something else is found, this may be the last known location for this person.

This Frank A Carrington, may be the son of my Arthur A. Carrington and Virginia Gear. Franks parents were drowned in a shipwreck off the Pacific Coast in the SS Independence Fire off Marietta Island in March 1853. My Frank is a two year old survivor with his sister Julia Carrington who later married Victor Strong. The Frank Carrington I am looking for was rescued, and picked up in San Francisco by his uncle Timothy Carrington, and then was sent back eact to live with Virginia Gear Carringtons sister Angelica Gear Thearle in Tafton, Grant Wisconsin. Frank was born in abt 1851 and Julia 1848. I find my Frank (possible) living with Arthur A. Carrington's brother, Ennis, in 1860 St Louis, Misouri.

Do you think we have a connection?

It's possible there may be a connection, but I can't say for sure - I haven't got enough information to rule out, or to support, the theory.
There is a Virginia Carrington listed on the 1850 census for Grant county Wisconsin. She's married, age 21, born in Wisconsin, daughter Julia age 1 born in Wisconsin (enumeration transcription indicates "Julio"), a possible sister-in-law? Elizabeth Carrington age 26 born in Virginia, and a boy named Asa Carrington age 4 born in Wisconsin.
However, no husband's name was listed on this record for either Virginia or for Elizabeth, and there are no references as to what the spouse names might have been. To date, I have not found anyone named Frank Carrington on a census between 1850 and 1880 that would be of the right approximate age to have been married to Laura Slack (who was born in 1858).
The census records for Luther Paul Carrington, the son of Laura Slack and Carrington, indicate his father might have been born in Kentucky - and the census entries on Julia Carrington indicate her father was born in Kentucky - but that's about as far as I've gotten.
The steamship catastrophe you referenced was just off Margarita Island near Baja, California (not Marietta Island) with over 300 lives lost. No names of victims or survivors were given in the account I found. Do you have a manifest or something that shows the names of the passengers who were onboard at the time of the tragedy? If so, I'd be interested in the Carrington names that were shown. Thanks for writing - I'll look forward to hearing back from you. C
