I had guessed that Houston M. Rice was the son of William S. Rice and Margaret West Rice. On Monday, this week, I went to the Lauderdale County Courthouse and found the records for the estate settlement for William S. Rice. Houston M. is the son of Willam and Margaret. I had known that Mary Ann Eliza, my great grandmother, and Young Clay were the children of William and Margaret, but had only guessed at Houston.

Do you think, for sure, that the Houston Rice data that you found is our Houston?

I know that Martha married a Covington and that they moved to Texas. I had found some data on them and the death certificate for Marcus. Do you have any information on them?

We are from Hiram Maness's line, Riley's brother. They paused in Cherokee county before heading to Trinity County. A couple of their kids married in Cherokee county. James married Delilah Harden, George married also, but for the life of me can't think of her name, I think it was Mary or Martha. Anyway, will have to load the tree back into the computer to send further info. Had a bug and had to have it fixed.

The Cherokee County Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2010, at Bonner Place (Nursing Home Dining Room), 421 S. Bonner Street in downtown Jacksonville, Texas.
The program topic will be Organizing Your Genealogical Research. "We hope you can attend," said Gordon Bennett, Tree Talk Editor. gordonbe@suddenlink.net
Posted by program presenter, Vivian Cates. Please let me know if anyone else is having trouble with their rootsweb e-mail list subscriptions and how you corrected the problem. I have subscribed to various rootsweb e-mail lists, often including this one, almost from their beginning. Some lists are more active than others. I have been having difficulties since before early December. I am not getting the postings except for one or two "dribbles." I am not getting any responses to my commands to subscribe, unsubscribe, or send me a list of the lists to which I am subscribed. Tech support at my local ISP in Nacogdoches (where I can talk to a live person) and I have not been able to figure out what the problem is. Apparently David at the customer help desk at rootsweb.com does not know either!!! So this posting is a test from another e-mail address on the same server to see if anything works. Could a couple of you fellow list members please e-mail me direct to let me know if this message appears either on the board or the list or both. My step-father, Walter Ellis Kirby b.1910/d.1983 was her youngest son. She and JB had about 10 children. She died about 1945, buried in Mixon Cemetery.
Della, What a great service you are providing to the genealogy community with your look-ups. I am searching for the death record or an obit for my ggg grandfather, W.W. Lewis, b. 1824 in TN and d. 1891 in Cherokee County, TX. Wife was Mary (Johnson?) b. 1825 in TN and died 1908 in Cherokee County, TX. I have been unable to find his parents in TN and believe the death certificate would help me do this. I have nothing on Mary other than her name appears as Mary Johnson Lewis on her son's death certificate in Cherokee County TX in 1922. Many thanks for your kind offers to perform these searches. Regards, Brenda

Samuel Sanders was allegedly buried in the Alto, Texas area but I can't find his grave. Does anyone have any info on the whereabouts of my g-g-g-grandfather?

Samuel Adams Sanders (1821 - 1897)

he rarely used "Adams" in his name. He was married to Martha Caroline Cook.

Thanks,
Mark Bauer (817)939-5671 mbauer@coltsoft.com
James Priestly is my ancestor. I can share plenty of info on his marriage and children if you are interested. However, I can not find any info on his parents/siblings. If you have a potential lead, I would love to know to see what I can find.

Thanks,
Donna

Search 1850 DeWitt-Not Stated-Page 7 For James Priestly born about 1816 in TN or SC. Then search familysearch.org for marriage of James Polk Priestly in 1874 Texas. Courtesy of Anna Laura Clark of Fort Worth, parents were James Austin Priestly and Elizabeth Ann Ragsdale.
