EDEN — Mr. Melvin James Layman, 77, of 1228 Robin Road passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 15 at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Layman was born in Dimmitt, Texas on May 15, 1932, a son of Allen Terrell and Ethel Decker Layman of Hereford, Texas, both deceased.
He was a graduate of Hereford High School Class of 1949 and served with the 224th Regiment's Heavy Mortar Company in Korea. He was known as "Papa" to his friends and neighbors and was one of Eden's best carpenters, always willing to help anyone who asked him. He was a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Chambers Layman of the home; his sons, David and wife, Lois of Kernersville, and Mike and wife, Ronda of McLeansville; his daughters, Janet and fiancé, Danny Newman of Eden, and Sandra Hanks and husband, Todd of Eden; his nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Chris, Eric, Josh, Caleb, Kristen, Lea, Brandon, Amber, and Lindsey; and two precious great grand daughters, Madisyn Belle and Kaylee Nicole.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence.
