I believe William Yancy Doggett was my great grandfathers younger brother and married Susie Card. It seems they weren't married long before he died. He was only 24/25. They were married in 1885. Any info on his death/obit would be interesting. If I have the correct info it appears the Doggett brothers married Card sisters. Susie and her sister Frances were daughters of Samuel Card. William, Susie and I believe Samuel are buried in the Oak Hill/Flatonia cemetery.
Any Card/Doggett family info from this time period would be appreciated.
William Fordtran/Thomas Stapleton Doggett

There is a William Fordtran buried in the Oak Hill/Flatonia City Cemetery. Any info on him would be appreciated. My great great grandfather was Thomas Stapleton Doggett of Virginia. He moved to Texas abt. age 19 and settled in the Flatonia area. His first wife was Rossella Snell. They had 2 sons, James and Hugh. All but Thomas are buried in the Oak Hill cemetery. Thomas went on to remarry and is buried in Weimar where he started a 2nd family with Frances Card. Thomas' eldest son with Frances was named "William Fordtran Doggett". This was my grandfather. My father was then named for his father and so on to my brother, recently deceased William Fordtran Doggett III.
I want to find out the Fordtran/Doggett connection. Did they do business together? Belong to the same church?? Was there a family relation to the Card family (Thomas Doggett's 2nd wife), or to his 1st wife (she was a Snell). I have found no family connection. I assume Mr William Fordtran was known to Thomas Doggett while he lived in Flatonia???? He had to have meant a lot to him, for him to name his son after him.
I believe William to be son of Charles Fordtran. Any info is appreciated. The name "Fordtran" was carried down for 3 generations in my family and I would love to know the original connection. Thanks for any info on William Fordtran, William Fordtran Doggett Sr. (of Weimar) or the Doggett family while in the Flatonia area. I have lots of info on the Doggetts of Weimar. Photos of anyone would be fantastic as well.......although I don't think they will post to ancestry?? I want to solve this mystery!!!!!My father William F. Doggett Jr. died when I was only 3, so I didn't get a chance to ask him. Oh, sorry..we are talking 1800's early 1900.
Thank you
Ann Jeter (Doggett) Aleixo

If you seek information prior to 1900, methinks you will need to research Germany? Their husbands were either born in Germany or were first generation descendants of Germanic immigrants. To the list of spouses: Emma Katherine Dornbusch wed Walter Ernest Kohler. Lydia was the eldest sibling and perhaps family papers (history) was entrusted to her and/or descendants? Birth index has Weldon Ray Reichel born 26 Oct 1933 in Milam County. He and Jane Aaron Cox had Ronald Ray Reichel 28 Sep 1959 in Victoria County.

Lots of info! So much that I am getting the lines tangled! You must be descended from Johanna/Johanne (Dornbusch) and Willie Druesedow? That's based on the images you have saved to a family tree. Research indicates Lidia/Lydia/Liddie wed Charles A. Reichel, Mina/Minnie wed Willie Neumann, Johanne/Johanna you have already, Elunora/Elenora/Nora wed Willie D. Felfe, and Antonie wed August Frederick Otto Seelig. The families lived in Williamson and Milam Counties in addition to Fayette. I am not related, just enjoy research.

Their children are: Lidia, Mina, Johanne, Elunora, Antonia and Bertha. This is the information I gathered from the 1900 census for Fayette county, city of La Grange.
Thank you for answering my question. I saw this couple too but there were children in the 1870 census older than her marriage could have been if her first husband died in 1864. It did not occur to me that Joseph "Job" Ray could have had a marriage prior to this one too. I will investigate further.
Phyllis, you asked if Benjamin and Mary Liggett had other children. I found them. I did not just copy and paste. If you had looked for them you would have already known this yourself. Look at my track record. Paula

Why would you copy & paste all that info [that anyone can find] if you are not related, and from what I can see, not researching?

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. Former Texas Ranger C.S. SMITH (also S.C., Charley, & Sam) born in Blackjack Springs in Fayette County was killed attempting to arrest an outlaw in Cotula in La Salle County. His body was returned to Fayette County for burial. I believe he may be buried in the J.C.C. Smith cemetery. Can anyone verify his grave site being there and where the cemetery is located.

Hi JTtrahan, I hope this will help. There are many Koerth family members buried at La BAhia Cemetery. Maybe August and Ernestine were later buried there with family. Good luck.
http://www.txgenweb3.org/txfayette/cemeteries_t-z.htm#windme...
Windmeyer Family Cemetery
Bluff

According to Joe Cole who found this site on June 20, 1958 it is located: "On a dirt road leading from Monument Hill to Cedar Cemetery on the south side of the road across from the Gus Hausmann place on Mrs. Louis Eck's place there is a spot with two graves with evergreen gowing on them. No markers. Was told by Mrs. Eck that they were graves of the Windmire family. Gus Hausmann and wife also told of these graves."

In December 1992, an oil landman doing deed research brought us copies of papers that referred to a deed transferred in 1883 that stipulated "... a small portion of the aforesaid premises to a family burial ground, now under enclosure, the same is to be in future respected a such burial ground ..."

According to her probated will, Louise Sophie Windmeyer died in 1874 and is assumed to be buried here. According to her husband's will, Hermann Heinrich Windmeyer died in 1890 "while in San Antonio, Bexar County where he was seeking medical treatment" probably for blindness. He is possibly buried here. Additional census and probate research done by Kathy Carter in December 1995 is available at the Fayette Heritage Museum & Archives.

David Austin, a great-great-grandson of the Windmeyers, adds that Herman Heinrich Windmeyer, 30 Nov 1810 - 4 Nov 1890, and Louise "Sophie" Windmeyer, 23 Jun 1807 - 5 Jul 1874, (the latter born in Minden, Germany) came to Texas around 1849 with four married adult children and three younger children. Mrs. Louis Eck, mentioned above, lived on the south side of Creamer's Creek Road, just west of the entrance to Panorama Estates. There are several houses built across the road from there now.

http://www.txgenweb3.org/txfayette/fhm_archives.htm

This is a partial list of 1870 census for the Windmeyer,s
http://www.txgenweb3.org/txfayette/1870W_Z.htm

Fayette County, Texas - Military: Confederate Pension Applications
Windmeyer, August (Wintmeyer) 28124 Fayette

This might be of interest.
http://home.earthlink.net/~awhart2/cemetery/labahiacemetery....
LA BAHIA CEMETERY
Koerth/Korth, August, b.
Can anyone identify the people in these photographs?

http://cid-39b1db14c948ff3a.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Mi...

I THINK these are pictures of the Reynolds family that may have belonged to Elizabeth (Bettie) Reynolds Fisher (26 Jul 1860-24 Aug 1936). Her parents were James P. Reynolds and Susannah Brasher.

My cousin Lindell thought this was the picture album of my grandmother Minnie Virginia Fisher Haile. I do not recognize these as being "Haile" pictures.

I think picture 2 is PROBABLY the wife of Robert W. Reynolds, brother of Elizabeth (Bettie) Reynolds Fisher. His wife's name was "Annie G." I do not know her maiden name.

I think picture 4 is the brother of Elizabeth (Bettie) Reynolds Fisher....Robert W. Reynolds.

I think the 6th picture is probably the child of Robert W. and Annie Reynolds. Her name was Estelle. Could picture 8 be an older picture of the same child?

Picture 11 was taken in Tom Green County (San Angelo). This COULD be Flavius Joseph Reynolds, brother of Elizabeth (Bettie) Reynolds. It COULD be his son Edward Manton Reynolds.

Picture 19 is James Walter Haile, son of James Thomas Haile and Mary Beaver Hodges.

Please contact me if you can identify any of these people.

Pat Kinsey
pa-ha-kin@austin.rr.com

I am looking for Wedemeyer Cemetery. Can any of you help me?

August Koerth killed himself in 1920 and his death certificate shows he was buried in "Wehemeyer Cemetery". The undertaker as A. M. WEYAND (or so it looks to be). Address was: Carmine, Texas.

His wife, Ernestine (KELM) KOERTH died in 1924. Her death certificate shows she was interred in "Wehdemier Cemetery". The undertaker was Haberlin & Neumann. Address was Carmine Texas.

I have tried every spelling I could think of trying to find this cemetery. It may not now show a name or it's name may have changed.

I am hoping one of you know will either be familiar with this cemetery or knows an oldtimer who does know about it.

Thanks a bunch.

Death of Mrs. Clara Yeager

Mrs. Clara Yeager died last Sunday afternoon about 3:30 after long suffering and was buried in the family plot of Flatonia cemetery Monday evening at 4 o'clock. Mrs. Yeager's death was not unexpected as her death had been expected for several days, however, a gloom was cast over our entire community. All of her children, four in number as follows: Ford, George, Mrs. H.N. Flato and Mrs. M. Fernan were at her side when death claimed Grandma Yeager. Mrs. Yeager had lived in Flatonia from its infancy and was loved by all. She leaves four children, all married, many relatives and numerous friends to whom the Argus extends heartfelt sympathy. - Flatonia Argus.

Source: Shiner Gazette, Shiner, Texas, Wednesday Morning, December 12, 1906; Pg. 5

Hello Carol:

I do not know of any connection, but Teldau is not terribly far from where our Oedings came from; Wedel and Schulau just northwest of Hamburg. Evidently the Oeding clan originated there. If you could trace your line back a bit further with Teldau records, you may find a connection.

Regards, JT Koenig

His Father was Heinrich Wilhelm Oeding and his Mother Sophie Wilhelmine A. Peters. He was born in Teldau in 1832. Do you know of any connection? I've hit a brick wall.

Hi there, I would try posting at the Texas in the Civil War Message Board http://history-sites.com/cgi-bin/bbs53x/txcwmb/webbbs_config...

It isn't a complete resource by any means, but people often post their ancestors on Find-a-Grave. If you do find someone on there, you can contact the person who made the posting. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi

Any ideas about when he was born, where and when he died or who his parents and wife might have been? Every little bit helps, but if the information you gave is all you have, that's a start :o) A search of ancestry found 7 locations in the USA for Bohemia and one in Mexico, plus the one in the Czech Republic.

The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System records the unit of Ch. Simank as a Confederate soldier, 3rd Regiment, Texas Infantry, Company A, rank in Private, Rank out Private.
Their brief regimental history reads:
3rd Infantry Regiment completed its organization during the fall of 1861. Some of its members were recruited at Austin and San Antonio. It served along the Texas coast at various points and in October, 1862, totalled 648 effectives. Because the regiment never saw any action, during the latter part of the war morale deteriorated. It disbanded before the Trans-Mississippi Department surrendered in June, 1865. The field officers were Colonel Philip N. Luckett, Lieutenant Colonels Augustus Buchel and Edward F. Gray, and Major John H. Kampmann.

A search for SIMMANK SYMANK SYMMANK found nothing on the CWSSS. A search for Roessler and Rabe turned up no one in the Texas Infantry, but several others. You might want to take a look and see if they could be your man.
All the best in your search. Cathey

Hello, I have a very impressive oil painting signed by F. Friemel. It dates from 1948. It is a landscape with a view of a small town, mountains and a lake in the distance. To me it looks like Vermont, white church with columns, scattered farmhouses and barns. But I may be wrong. The style is very western ,like say, Thomas Hart Benton, or Peter Hurd, and is very professional work. Were there artists among the Friemel's?

Criswell descendants are cordially invited to attend a Family Reunion in Modesto, California on October 10, 2009. Many of the descendants of John Yancy Criswell, Sr., an early Fayette County pioneer, eventually migrated to California. Among them were four of the children of his grandson Leander Harvey Criswell (briefly, a deputy sheriff in Fayette Co. himself). The California Criswells invite any and all Criswells to join them for a day of learning about our history, meeting cousins, and sharing stories. After dinner, four speakers will cover the subjects of four cemeteries in Fayette Co. where Criswells are buried, our early American ancestors from Europe, historical events Criswells participated in, and the history of the Criswell families in Modesto, California. Contact Dolores Woodward Reed at criswellreunion@aol.com before September 18 to register($19 for adults, $9 for those under 18).

Andrew Jackson Lackey arrived in Fayette County just before the Civil War. I am looking for some records of him being there, as he died before the 1870 census.

I am also looking for information on African American freedmen Lemuel Cartwright and Patrick Luckey/Lackey that lived next door to each other in the 1880 census. If anyone has information to share, please contact me at JFLanthropologist@sbcglobal.net.
