Thank you so much for taking the time to look and for replying to such an old post! It gives me hope that more people go back and read them and clues will eventually turn up as with yours today.

The folks you mention are 'mine'! It's rare that I run across anything that mentions them because so many records burned.

John Y Eubank's sister-in-law was Elizabeth Fogg Eubank who married John Y's brother Henry Eubank. Henry died in 1846.

The curiosity is the entry for 'Lucy A Eubank died July 4 1859 age 22 at sister Elizabeth Eubank - sister's place'. If you have a way, could you check the original entry to make sure it does say sister and not mother?

Original copies of pages from the Eubank family bible has these entries:

Lucy Ann Eubank was born January the 29 1837-
Lucy A Eubank and John G Madison married October the 29 1855
Lucy A Madison died in the 23rd year of age in June 4 1859

I had thought that this Lucy Ann Eubank was Elizabeth Fogg Eubank's daughter, Lucy, but perhaps I need to research Elizabeth Fogg Eubank's line further to see if she had a sister named Luch who married a Eubank

Thanks so much for the info! I hope we can share more information. What linens are you researching?

Kim wrenn

Looking thru my King William stuff and noticed this information in the Register of Deaths for 1859 that I have.
John Y. Eubank - Male - Died May 1859 - Place Sisters - Cause Consumption - Age 25 - Farmer-unmarried -Reported by Elizabeth Eubank -Sister-in-law
The next entry is Lucy A. Eubank - Female - Died July 4 1859 - Place Sisters Cause Consumption Age 22 - Reported by Elizabeth Eubank -Sister
Let me know if this helps in any way.
Thanks G Creek
I was the lady who asked about the Spillers in that area. One of my Ancestral Grandmothers came from there. I found mentiion in some of the stuff on the Spillers a ref. to this old church.
My Spillers owned the Ordinary close to the Historical Courthouse of which I have a sketch. That funnyw as shared with me by a lady named Peggy Brown Chapman. The Sketch was done by a lady named Marie. I was also related to people named Jennins. I come from a man named Hezekiah Cockerham. His eldest son met in S.C. in I believe Greenville Dist. SC. Mary Spillers, the daughter of George Spillers Sr. who had sold his Ordnary in VA in King William Ct. and moved there about the same time my Cockerham line ended up living there. Another child of Hezekiah was said to have married the Jennins man. Which I have all of this. I would love to learn more about my Spillers.
I propose that the elder William Spilman AKA Spillers found in King William Ct. VA to be the Father of George Spillers Sr. This older William Spilman was there at the same time that (3) men by the name of Cockerham, William to be exact lived there leaving trace records behind.......
I think that the older of these three was the Father, one a son of his which does not rule out him having more than one son.....and the other man perhaps a cousin somehow, or a Nephew named for the older man by a brother to the older man! It is just funny to me that these names appear there at about the same timeframe........the first KNOWN record of Cockerham that I have in my line is a deed in Caroline Co. VA it was found to be the part of King William Ct. VA that became Caroline.......so I suspect that the lines moved and not the people!
I think that my Daniel Cockerham got this land from his Father or Father in Law...only problem is that we have NO maiden name for his wife. She shows up in this record as Fran as she had to sign off on dower rights on this will.
I believe Daniel's Father to be a man named William as his first born son was given the name William! My Cockerham line has a very storng history of using the naming pattern down through time.......

I am interested in any Cockerham's or Spillers that may have been linked to this old church.

Sorry so long winded,
Gail

Tignor in King William

Hello. I'm looking for my Tignor ancestors who lived in King William County. Specifically Elijah Tignor (b. 1819, d. 1893). He was the son of Robert Tignor (b. 1788, d. aft 1860).

I have a lot of information on his children and his spouses. I also found a death date of 3 Aug 1893 from a member of ancestry.com, but they did not provide sources. I'm looking for proof of this date. Also any information on burial location for him and/or his wife Elizabeth (Carter) Tignor (d. 18 Oct 1885) would be very helpful. I know based on her obituary that she was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, but I've never been to the church cemetery grounds to see if she's buried there.

Does anybody have some advice?

My mother's family is from King William: Leftwich, McKenzie, Burch, Tuck. The only info I have at this point is that Robert Andrew Leftwich, "Uncle Bob" to my grandmother, was married to Caroline Lavalia McGeorge, daughter of Russell Montague McGeorge and Carrie Pollard. Uncle Bob was born in 1900 and he and Lavalia were married in Washington DC.
Russell McGeorge was born in 1862, Carrie in 1870. They had the following children: Lizzie Bell who married Junious Atkinson; Sadie Lee; Annie who married Julian T. Moran; R.W. and an unknown daughter who married Paul C. Pearson.
Several of these are buried at Hebron Baptist Church in King William. If you think any of these will help you, I'll be glad to go and check them out for you.
As for the Rowe and Abraham families, I'm afraid I have no info.
Please let me know if I can help you further.
Good luck in your search.
Sincerely,
Vicki Stephens

I was wondering if you have contact with someone in King William Co., VA. I am researching Robert Rowe and wife Martha Abraham(s)' daughter Agnes Rowe who married William McGeorge. Don't have date, but know they lived in William Co,Va from the 1850 and 1860 census. Martha Rowe was widow in 1850 census and living with daughter Agnes (Rowe) McGeorge. Agnes birth abt 1805 and William birth about 1799. Agnes' brother, Joseph Rowe (b 15 Jan 1812, d 21 Oct 1898) is my 2nd gr grandfather.
I would appreciate any help with these McGeorge, Rowe and Abraham families. THKS,

The tombstones at Acquinton Church have been posted to Findagrave.com. Go to this website and on the left side of the screen select cemetery lookup, on the next screen you will be able to type in Acquinton Church and from there you can view all of the tombstones. Unfortunately, there appear to be burials without tombstones. Eugene

I think possibly I do. I haven't found the connection yet, but my mother says she knows we are related to the Powell's, but she isn't sure of the connection either.
My grandmother's grandfather was Andrew Jeter Leftwich, (b. 1839,) who married Sallie Thomas Tuck, (B. 1842). They were married at "Catalpa Grove" near Rt.30. I do not have much information at hand beyond that at the moment.
I'll do more checking and get back with you. I would like to find out as well.

I wonder if his son William married my ancestress Judith Davis:

George Smith born 1655 (some say about 1640 or 1650 or 1654 or 1666) and died before November 02, 1691 (some say about 1700), both in New Kent County, Virginia at possibly the age of 36 years, if born in 1655 ; he married Mary White born 1657 (some say 1652 or 1659 or 1660) in New Kent County, Virginia (some say Brurton Parish, York County, Virginia) and died about February 1695/96 (some say 1687) in Virginia at about age 38 years – married about 1670 (some say 1665 or1680) in New Kent County, Virginia (some say Hanover County, Virginia). George was the son of: Capt. Raleigh Smith who may have been born about 1620 (some say 1625) in possibly New Kent County, Virginia and who may have died about 1680.

George would have to have been the first husband of Mary White, and some say that he probably died shortly after the birth of daughter Unity Smith (when she was age 10 years, if dates are correct). Some say that Mary White Smith then married William Davis. This is proved by land transfers in King William County of a Davis son to his sisters, with the approval of his father; this land had been inherited from his aunt Rebecca White. The document refers to an underage Davis son, transferring his 75 acres, (of 300 acres) inherited from his aunt Rebecca White, to his sister Judith upon the marriage of her to William Holladay.

Mary White married second William Davis of King William County, Virginia – married after 1691 (some say about 1684 or before March 26, 1688) in probably Virginia.

Mary and William possibly had 2 or possibly more children:

Their daughter: Judith Davis born between 1691 and 1695 probably in Virginia; married William Holladay (some say Holiday).

Any help with this family would be appreciated,
lindajcox3@hotmail.com

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me jumbing in. Absolem Atkins married into my Eubank Family. His wife was Sally Ann Eubank (sister to my 4g grandfather William Trice Eubank) of King William Co Va.

I have their oldest son as Alexander Atkins, born about 1829 and have not been able to track him after the 1850 census. What is your source that 'Thomas' Atkins was Absolem and Sally Ann Atkin's son? If we can establish that without a doubt, the maybe his name was Thomas Alexander Atkins. There is a Thomas Atkins, age 30 in the 1860 King & Queen census who may just be 'our guy'.

Below is the results of my research on Sally Ann Eubank and Absolem Atkins. The numbers represent the generation. Their children are gen 3, grandchildren are gen 4, etc. I hope it makes sense:

1 Unknown EUBANK

2 Sally Ann EUBANK b 5/17/1809 d abt 1880
m Absalom W ATKINS b 1800 d betw 1870 & 1880
Notes: Absolom W Atkins is listed in the 1830 Caroline Co Va census on pg 174 with Sally and 1 son under 5. Absolem and Sally are listed in the 1840 KW Co Va census on pg 58 with 1 son 5-10, 1 son 10-15 and 2 daughters 5-10. Absalom and Sally are listed in the 1850 KW Co Va census on pg 250b and 251a. A. W. and Sally are listed in the 1860 KW Co Va census on pg 567. Sally Eubank Atkins is a widow listed as Sarah A Atkins in the 1870 KW Co Va census on pg 119b with daughters Bettie Johnson, Lucy Houston, son-in-law Milton Houston and their children. It appears Bettie’s husband is not in the home, but the very next house on the census is J H Johnson of the correct age to be her husband Henry Johnson. He is the only one in the household. It is possible that the dwelling and family number for him is incorrect on the census page and that he is really a part of Sallie’s household. Also in Sallie’s home is 11 year old Maggie Allen (possible daughter of nephew Temp Allen and Amanda Allen who have a 2yr old daughter Maggie in 1860 census). Also researching whether this Amanda Allen was Amanda Atkins). Sallie is listed in the 1880 KW Co Va census on pg 56b. There is an Absalom A. Atkins in the 53 Va Inf. Co H (same as Sally’s brother Thomas Eubank). According to information from Sheri Milliken in Hanover Co Va, this is Absolem’s brother Reuben Atkins’ son.

3 Alexander ATKINS b 1829
NOTE: Listed with his parents in the 1830 Caroline Co Va census on pg 174. Listed with his parents in the 1840 KW Co Va census on pg 58. Listed with his parents in the 1840 KW Co Va census on pg 58. Listed with his parents in the 1850 KW Co Va census on pg 250b and 251a. Listed in the 1860 KW Co Va census on pg 570. Listed in the 1870 KW Co Va census on pg 135b. Listed in the 1880 KW Co Va census on pg 57b. Listed in the 1900 KW Co Va census on pg 105b Listed in the1910 KW Co Va census on pg 37a. Rosa is a widow in the 1920 KW Co Va census on pg 29b. Augustine Atkins, served with Carter’s Artillery according to is pension forms on file at the archives of the library of Virginia. Augustine’s wife, Rosa filed a Confederate widow’s pension application in April, 1917 listing her age as 73 and confirmed their marriage date. She said Augustine was in Carter’s Artillery and was pensioned at the time of his death. Her address at that time was 518 W. 4th St Richmond, Va. The Gorham Bronze tablet in Beulah Church on Rt 600 in KW Co Va, lists Augustine, Rose, Lucien and Nannie. Augustine, Rosina and son, James share a burial plot at Beulah Baptist Church, King William Co Va.

4 Lucian ATKINS b 1866 (12/1867) d 1928
m Ann “Nannie” FOGG b 6/1856 d 1947
NOTE: Buried at Beulah Church dates confirmed for both by grave markers. Lucian was listed in his parent’s home in the 1900 KW Co Va census on page 105b as single. Listed next to them are Robert Gouldman age 54, wife Nannie F age 43 and daughters Mary A age 4 and Gracie L age 9. Lucian married widow Nannie Fogg Gouldman and these are his stepdaughters. In Lucian’s cousin James Henry Eubank’s home in the 1900 Henrico Co Va census (dated 6/11/1900) is Gracie R Gouldman age 9 listed as ‘niece-in-law’. Nannie G Fogg Gouldman is the sister of James Henry Eubank’s wife Virginia Clay Fogg Eubank (see Henry Eubank line). Their parents were Tazewell W and Mary H Fogg of K&Q Co Va. Listed in the 1910 KW Co Va census pg 37a with “Sisters in law” Mary A Gouldman age 14 and Gracie L Gouldman age 19 in the home . Lucian and Nannie are listed alone in the home in 1920 KW Co Va census on pg 30a. Nannie is listed in the 1930 KW Co Va census on page 206a & 206b in daughter Mary A Gouldman Martin’s home . It appears Lucian Atkins never had children of his own.

5 Gracie L GOULDMAN b 04/1890 d 1968
m Harry L WHITT b b abt 1889	d
NOTE: Buried at Beulah Church dates confirmed for both by grave marker.
Jackie, How are things going with respect to your book on the Collins? I have not seen any recent post from you so I guess that means you are busy. I, too, am working on someone with the name Collins. She was 5/26/1914 Edith Marie Collins on the Pamunkey Indian Reservation. I believe she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This would have been about 1930 when she was reported to have married a gentleman with the surname Davis. Would you happen to have the name of her parents in your Collins data? If so, would you please share that with me. My E-mail is latki86459@aol.com. Eugene

Info on ggrandmother Alice Johnson

I am trying to gather information about my great grandmother. Her name is Alice Johnson and was born in 1872 in Varina, Va. I believe she was a member of the Pawmunkey Indian Tribe. We have her medicine bag and pipe that was once kept at the Pawmunkey Museum. It is believed that she was a medicine woman of the tribe. Are there any women's circles or anyone that can help me find out more. Her grandson, my Dad, and myself are trying to get enrolled in the tribe.
Thank you in advance for any help.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention Thomas. Not much is known at this time as records are few and far between. Also, there are a couple of Thomas' about the same time period. Contact me for more info through the message board on Ancestry through the tree I listed previously and we can chat! Ida

We are working on that. Look for my tree on Ancestry, its
The Atkins Tree and all of Its Branchs. I will send an invite if you would like so you can see what I have so far. Two other folks and I have started collaborating on this and we are gaining some serious ground for our direct lines. There are quite a few unknowns yet. I have the family almost back to the big pond but some key pieces of the puzzle are missing. We know for a fact that the four original Atkins bros who came to Jamestown are directly responsible for 80% of the Atkins line from mid-atlantic, south and west. There are some family links that came later and joined this group. Any input you have would be great. There is also a fellow collaborating with a relative in another state who is the DNA research person for the Atkins line on Ancestry. I can connect you to him as well if you would like. Just let me know and I'll contact him for the email address for you. Let me know if you want my tree invite and I'll send it as soon as I get your answer. Thanks for the response, Ida Atkins

This is great, Jeff! J W "Willie" Reid buried at Beulah Baptist Church in King William Co Va is definitely Lucy Eubank's son. So if he is brother to your James Robert Reid, then we have proven that Lucy Eubank Perryman's second husband (known to be a Reid) was Robert Reid(b abt 1815-1818).
Thank you so much. I look forward to sharing information.

Kim Wrenn
Durham NC
