Dear Debbie:
"My" Lander or Landy Adams was born in Missouri in 1839.

We may still be related as this is a somewhat unusual name. Was your family in the Missouri or Tennesse area in the first half of the 1800's?

Best wishes, possible cousin.
Barbara

would you be anyway related to Abbie Adams

Lander (Landy) Adams

We don't have an "Abbie" in our records. We have a Huldah, Delila, Landy, and Lacy all living in Missouri from at least the mid 1800's to the early 1900's.

Good hunting!

How very nice to hear from you!
Landy Adams was my greatgrandfather. Any information you could share would be most welcome. My mother believed he was injured in the Civil War when a mule or horse fell on him, and he may have had health problems related to that injury until his death in 1897. I would love to learn what he did in the war.
I've hit a brick wall with his father, Lacy Adams. Do you have anything in that direction as well?
Your very distant cousin,

LANDY ADAMS

Landy in Civil War

I have Landy's Civil War pension record. It is very good. It tells:
wife Delila Hildebrand md. 19 apr 1866 Dallas, Mo.
Landy died Dallas 31 Oct 1897.
Witnesses of disabled Wilson Adams age 49, Malinda A Adams age 46 address Tilden Dallas (1898).
Delila address in 1898 Louisburg, Dallas, Mo at age 58.
Landy born Blount Co, Tenn.
Landy 5'6", fair complexion, black eyes, dark hair.
Delila born 11 Mar 1838 near Buffalo, Dallas, Mo. Died 2 Jan 1918 Mo.
Landy enrolled 29 Dec 1861 at Jefferson City, Private in Company B, 8th Regiment MO State Militia Cavalry.
Discharged 24 Jan 1865, age 22, at St Louis MO. Disabled by disease of kidneys and injury to back at Lebannon Mo, June 20 1863 caused by his horse falling on him while on a scouting mission. No treatment. Was an invalid, totally unable to work for the last 12-15 years of his life.
Do you have any information on any brothers or sisters, and anything on parents, that would help me to know if Frances Caroline Adams is a sister or not.

Landy Adams

Thank you! Great to finally discover what unit Landy Adams was with and to confirm that the family story of his injury was accurate. There's another part of this story which may also be true. My mother, daughter of Huldah Jones who was the daughter of Landy Adams and Delila Hildebrand related with embarassment that our branch of the Adams family was connected to John Adams, the second President. Why the embarrassment? Family tradition also held that there was something wrong with our however-many-times-great-grandfather,and though we were related to the famous Adams family, we had no right to be proud.
My mother's sister apparently did make the link between the families, but at her death, none of her sons was interested and her notes were destroyed. Bother!
Now, as to what help I can offer you, Landy's father was Lacy Adams, his mother (the spelling may be off here) was Bethina Payne. The Internet reflects a Lacy Adams born in 1809 in Tennessee. The 1850 and 1860 Censuses place a Lacy Adams in Ozark County, Missouri. These are about the right ages/dates and the right state, but there is no solid link to our Lacy as yet. I have no information on Landy's brothers or sisters, but my mother listed all of Landy's and Delila's children as follows:
Emma, Viola, Hepsy
Stella, and Huldah
5 girls and no sons! I have information on some of Landy's children's children but that may not be helpful for your purpose.

My mom had an amazing memory for family members. She made a detailed list before her death. Let me review it and I'll get back to you Wednesday.
Thanks again, and good hunting!

Barbara
