ANTONIA family in Ontario

Still searching for any information on JOSEPH ANTONIA formerly of Italy and his wife MARY ENRIGHT. They were married c.1863, presumably in Wentworth County. About 1875 the family moved to the Simcoe County (Orillia and Medonte) area. I believe Joseph may have immigrated to Canada c. 1860.

Re: ANTONIA/ANTHONY

I was browsing through the Orillia messages when I ran across your message. I can't give you much but, I can say this.
There were Antonias in our neighbourhood where I lived at 371 Peter St N, way back in to 1935 - 1944. They were Catholic, and there is a Catholic Church on West St, near Coldwater Rd.
I have no idea (can't remember) what their given names were but maybe this will give you something to work with. Hope this helps.

Elizabeth Antonia

My grandmother was Mary Marguerite Antonia. She was born in the Township of Arthur, Grant Co., WI June 28, 1902. Her sister Elizabeth was born November 7, 1974 in Union Township, Jackson Co., Indiana. Her birth was registered in the Iowa County, WI birth records as follows:

Iowa County Birth records, Vol. 28, pg. 64 states:

Elizabeth
White female
born 11/7/1894
Union Township, Jackson Co., Indiana

She married August Spease Sept. 3, 1913 and had four children.

The only brother was LeRoy, who was born March 15, 1899.

I don't think our Elizabeth's match as the same person. However, it may be that my grandfather, William Richard Antonia, was related to your Elizabeth and may explain why he was in Indiana, after having left Pennsylvania and been out west. It would make sense that he would stop in Indiana to see relatives.

Would this make sense to you? I'm sending this as an email and also copying to familyhistory.com. The last time I tried emailing the message came back to me as undeliverable.

William Antonia

That is interesting! That's all the information I have at this time. I just started working on this line about 3 weeks ago. It isn't my family. I'm doing this as a gift for a friend. Her grandmother was Elizabeth Antonia. According to the census that I have(1900), Katie was born in March 1873. They had at this time three children William Aug.1896, Elizabeth March 1895, and Alvin March 1900. It does state that William Sr. was born in Aug. 1862, but the census takers didn't always have it right. What was your Grandmother's name? I found Elizabeth married to John Crawford in Prairie du chiene Wisconsin. Everything but the birth date sounds about right. I think it's a great probability that they are the same people. If he was 82 when he died, according the your grandmother's date of birth William would have been 56 or 57 when she was born. What do you think? My e-mail is: magnusonsha@aol.com Maybe we can figure this out.
Shawn

Wm. and Katie Antonia

That's very interesting. Katie was born in Jackson County Indiana around 1873. William was supposed to have been born in 1846 - he was 82 when he died in 1928. As far as I know they had three children (my grandmother was the youngest - born in 1902 in Grant County, WI). Of course, it's possible that they had other children who didn't live to make the trip to WI.

Since the time that I wrote that message, I found out that William's parents were Jane Baird Antonia and Sidney Antonia. William was born in Jamestown, Mercer Co., PA. (Information was from William's death certificate.) William also fought in the Indian wars out west. Unfortunately, I haven't learned anything else.

What is your relationship to the Antonia line? Please let me know if you think we're talking about the same people.

Hi Marty, I am doing some work on the Antonia side, I just started. Your information looks very familiar. I have a census record for 1900. William is married to a Katie and has4 children. It states that he was born in Pennsylvania in 1862. I hope that helps. My e-mail is magnusonshaw@aol.com the town they lived in in June of 1900 was Vernon township Jackson county Indiana
Shawn
