Doris Bemis Ashton,
Doris Bemis Ashton, age 92,
of Atlantic Beach, Fla., formerly of North East, died on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fla. She was born on August 24, 1917 in Erie,PA,
to the late Ray and Inis Allen Bemis. Doris received her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from Edinboro College. She also earned a reading specialist certification from Fredonia College. She was a teacher for over 45 years in the Findley Lake School System, North East School District, and the Ripley School System. Doris was a member of the Ripley First Presbyterian Church, where she formerly served as an Elder and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #153. She enjoyed bird watching and gardening. Preceded in death is her husband, Roger Ashton and brother, Milton Bemis. She is survived by a daughter, Lois Gaston of Atlantic Beach, Fla., and a son, Gary Ashton and wife, Carol of Boise, Idaho; a brother, Gerald Bemis and wife, Betty of Girard, Ohio; grandchildren Andrew and Carleen Ashton. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Thursday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating Rev. Stephen Cahoon.
