Verneeda Alma McCloud Beckwith Staaks, 90, of Winter Garden, Florida, formerly of Charleston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2009.
Verneeda was born October 23, 1918, in Charleston and was a daughter of the late Hubert O. and Minnie B. Bailey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, the Rev. Jack McCloud Sr. of Charleston, Bill Beckwith of Orlando, Florida, and Walter Staaks of Mount Dora, Florida; brother, Dana Bailey of Carpenter, Ohio; and sisters, Imogene Taylor of South Charleston and Violet Bragg of Charleston.
While living in Charleston, Verneeda was employed by the Department of Highways and also worked in a local physician's office, and served as vice president of the Ladies Fellowship of United Methodist Women for many years, while being actively involved in church ministry along with her husband, the Rev. McCloud. She was known for her kindness and infectious smile. She had a love for travel and enjoyed many adventures and sites throughout the world. She was an amazing cook and seamstress. While in Florida, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winter Garden. Verneeda was a devoted mother and grandmother who adored her son and grandchildren and was very proud of each of them as they succeeded in life.
Verneeda is survived by her son, Jack McCloud Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Winter Garden, Florida; four grandchildren, Vicki (McCloud) Counts and her husband, Steve, of Cross Lanes, Brent Castle and his wife, Karen, of Winter Garden, Florida, Bryant Castle and his wife, Julie, of Windermere, Florida, and Barbie Reynolds and her husband, Shane, of Asheville, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Mollie, Morgan, Haley, Cory, Jacob, and Samuel; nephews, Danny Bragg of Charleston and Murl Bailey of Carpenter, Ohio; and nieces, Janie Jeffers of New Boston, Illinois, and Peggy Taylor of Amma.
A celebration of Verneeda's life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, in the chapel of Tyler Mountain Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, with Pastor Bruce Young officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
