Anyone that has any of this it would be greatly appreciated.

The people that a lot of these photos was Ethel Baptist who died in 1989 before I was old enough to really start gathering a lot of this information.

Thanks

Hi there. Just browsing peoples names I used to know and Baptist came up. I knew Robert your husband from the heady days way back in the mid 60s-70s when I lived in Sheriff Hill.

Good memories of the Oxford night club. He may remember my brother Kevin?

Say hi to him from me.

Marie (Henderson)

Hi Anita,
Sorry I have not got back to you quicker but was up at Beamish and then my daughter and grand daughter came up from hampshire so had a bit on. This is a line I was following with my husbands cousin, her husbands mum was Olive Baptist, daughter of Henry Baptist and Edith Courage, who was son of Alexander Baptist and Mary Cairns if that makes sense. I havnt been looking at this for a little while as Karen, my husbands cousin died in april aged 50 so its been strange doing the tree without ringing her up to tell her all the things I have found. I would love to hear more of this line from you though as I still go to Beamish to see her husband and kids so think he would love any information on the family.
My e-mail is cazhutchinson@yahoo.co.uk if you would like to e-mail me direct. Hope to hear from you soon.
Take care Caroline

Hi there I am related to the Gateshead branch of the Baptist family by marriage. My father in law was the Mayor of Gateshead, he was callled Robert Ninian Baptist I am Married to his son Robert. Both his son and daughter (Carol) now live with their familes in Carlisle. It was quite a large branch of the Baptist family but all the girls had boys and my husband was the only male to carry on the name. I have a son and daughter Leo and Laura, Leo is the only surviving male Baptist that can carry on the line. Get in touch with me if you want more information my husband and sister in law would be happy to give you more information. Can I ask why you are asking about this branch of the family, because obviously we would be interested to know what you find out.

Hi Mark (and you have the famly name!),

What a pleasure to hear from you, also. I obtained George Mark's name, along with the other children, from one of the Canadian Censuses. His middle name is new to me! Unfortunately, I started this research long after people were alive that could fill me in, so every bit of info is a treasure! But many of the childrens' names were familiar.

My Aunt Marion (Baptist Benson) was 10 years older than my mother. Esther Mark died when my mother was 10; Marion was 20 at that time, and married, and I think had traveled to Canada more. She maintained contact with the Mark family. I remember as a child her mentioning Uncle George, Uncle Tom, Uncle Wes, Aunt Millisa. I imagine that your grandfather visited Marion and Roy when he came to Rochester.

Esther and George's sister Ethel lived right next door to Esther and George (Batist) on Alexander Street in Rochester. Her husband was (James Franklin?) Johnstone. I know the last name is correct, but dont know where I got his first and middle names. Their son was also named Mark, and was very close to my mother.

I have recently begun (again) researching the Canadian branches of my family. What a difference to have so much available online. I originally researched them in the early 80's, but gave up.

I have an album of unlabeled pictures that I'd love to share with you. Some are Baptists, but who knows? I've long been meaning to scan the pictures, and this could give me incentive to do so, and send them online, or on CD. Maybe you could help me figure out some of the people.

I would love to learn more about the family--have almost no original/official documents.

Shall we correspond via this Board, or directly through email? My email address is judysarts@earthlink.net.

Judy Schuster

Hi Judy:

What a very pleasant surprise to hear from you. Yes, I am a grandson of Esther Ann Mark's younger brother George Caleb Mark. I can remember as a child listening to his stories about visiting Rochester and his relatives there. If I remember he continued to visit the area until the mid 1960's.
The notice was originally posted before marriage registrations and the like were available on-line. Was attempting to gather additional info about George Baptist. We have pictures of Esther Ann and the children at a very young age. Would certainly enjoy corresponding.

Mark Ranson

Alexander's wife was Mary Wilson.

What is your relationship to John Baptist and Mary Dodds?

I realize it's been years since your post, but if you read this, I'd love to communicate with you.
George Baptist and Esther Ann Mark are my maternal grandparents. Their daughter, Ethel (married to Edward Charles Gantert), is my mother. Esther and George continued to live in Rochester, NY until their deaths in the years you have recorded.

Marion Baptist Benson had one son, Jack, who died several years ago. Jack had 4 or 5 children. Unfortunately, I don't have info on them.

George Jr never married.

Ethel had two children, my younger brother Alan, and I.

Are you related to the Batists? The Marks?

Sorry that it's been so long since your message posted. Hope you get this. Would love to exchange info.

Thanks, Judy Gantert Schuster

In continuing, The Boydton Clerk of Courts has information on the Baptist family. It seems that There have been references to Richard Baptist being Clerk of Courts. Additionally, The Scruggs family hails from Jettersville, Va in Amelia County. There are two families of Scruggs. My grandfather, Richard Bannister Baptist Sr. married Nannie Emmerfield Scruggs from Jettersville. From that union 6 children were born. That was his second marriage. My generation is related to the children from both of the marriages. I don't have my information before me right now, but I do have a folder with more pertinent information. One of my Aunts, Sally Olds Baptist Davis married Wilson Baptist from the second marriage. However, her cousin married Wilson's cousin from the second set of Scruggs. Let's compare info!

I too am searching the Baptist (Baptiste, Baptista) family tree. If you are located in Boydton, VA I too am probably a long lost cousin. :>) My great-grandfather is Ino Baptist and his son, Richard Bannister Baptist Sr. is my grandfather. He was married twice. The first union there were Alva, Eunice, John, Richard Jr. and I think two other children. Alva and Eunice lived in New York. Alva's only surviving child of three (Eleanor, Marshall and Eunice) lives in Florida. She has a lot of family history which she has been sharing with my sister Jeanne B. Boone (Mperial82@cs.com) She would appreciate hearing from you as would I.

Richard Bannister Baptist Sr. married Nannie Emmerfield Scruggs and lived in Boydton, Va in Mecklinburg County. They had 6 Children, Eugenia, Verdelle, Elnora, Wilson, Hazel and Eunice. They moved to Newport News, VA to 2704 Chestnut Ave in Newport News. While in Boydton, he was Clerk of Courts. There is a relative still living in Boydton but she will not release any information concerning the family. However, I contacted the current Clerk of Courts who does have records regarding Richard Bannister Baptist Sr. More information is forthcoming!

My great grandfather was George Baptist
born in Scotland April 02, 1839. I am not sure
but I believe his mother's name was Mary. Does
this fit with any information you have. Looking
in the Ontario census of 1871 Mary and several
males are listed as head of households. I can tell you that my grandfather's name was David Arthur Baptist and his wife's name was Elizabeth Reekie.
I am from Canada and I do believe we have relatives in the United States so hopefully we can correspond again.
