Brighton Family, Worcestershire, England

For those interested in the Brighton’s of Worcestershire, Francis Brighton has placed Jim Job Brighton's extensive history of the Brighton surname and the genealogy of this family on his website at:

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~fbright/

This is a goldmine of information.

Unfortunately, Francis has not included his contact information on this page—if anyone knows how to get a hold of him I would be most grateful.

This book includes Brighton and many variant spellings, including BRINTON, BRITHON, and BRIGHT. Spousal names include DAUX/DAWKES, SILVESTER, BRADFORD, GWYN, INCE, WRIGHT, and others.

This family has a long association with Worcestershire, and especially Bromsgrove in more recent times and Ombersley, Doverdale, Tibberton, Himbledon, Claines, Crowle and related locales earlier.

hello George
I am the Francis Brighton who posted the information on the site.
I have had to change my e-mail address due to recieving many unsolicited mail shots.
I only check this board ocasionally.
It was not me who did all the research, the Jim Job Brighton spent a lot of time on the book.
I will look more frequently in the coming weeks.
Regards
Francis Brighton

Francis, thanks for making a really great resource for Brighton families available.

If you or others are interested, I have extended the work in Jim Job's manuscript, coming forward from William Wright and Clara Brighton, using sources including the census and a manuscript compiled by Arthur Bretherick, grandson of William and Clara.

Hello George (again)
The Site that gives a better look at the family history and more details is at
familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/r/i/Francis--Brighton/index.html
It gives a better tree and you should seee all my address and e-mail address. It may be that the earliest BRINTON was a soldier from the Worcester area, left behind after a raid in Ayrshire. Do you know of any such military actions around 1600 ?.

Hi Frances
I think that it may have been you who posted a copy of the above book to my father, Harry John Ernest BRIGHTON many years ago. Unfortunately, the book was destroyed in a housefire several years ago. I have, however been lucky enough to have been able to download a copy.
My Dad died in 1972 and as such, I have not been able to gather much info on my ancestors. Mum is still living and is now 86 years of age. I know Dads fathers siblings, but can find no connections with their parents and grandparents apart from the names John.
I would love to hear back from you.
Regards from Lorraine in Oz

Hello Lorraine
The Book I have I inherited when my father passed away in 1984. It came from Jim Job Brighton (the auther) to him in 1950. It was this Jim Job who did all the hard work. He probably was the one to find your father and post the book. My book has a short letter and additional genealogy for our branch of the family here in Scotland

The link mentioned no longer works but I'd love to have access to this information. Have just discovered my ancestor Isaac Lee's wife Sarah was Sarah Brighton. They married in 1840 in Worcester, her father, John Brighton.
Any information welcome,
Louise

Is 1869 William's year of birth? Born in Bromsgrove? Do you have any other information, such as his wife? Children? Hve you found him in the census?

If he is a Brighton from Bromsgrove it is highly likely that this is the same family.

George

Hi there I am from Worcestershire and my Great Grandfater was James Brighton who resided in Ombersley. My grandmothers maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Brighton.

Is there any chance of gaining some more information about the Family ancestory - both my grandmother and I are very interested to learn more.

Many thanks,

Sarah
