Welcome to the Brinegar query board!

Welcome to our new query board for the Brinegar family! Most Americans with this surname probably trace back to Veith and Barbara Bruninger, who arrived in Philadelphia on the Britannia in 1731, with their children Anna and Adam. Adam Brinegar (the most usual spelling) was one of the early settlers of Rowan County NC, arriving there in the early 1750s. Many of his descendants moved to Kentucky, and from there the family spread further west.

I have linked this board back to my own web page on this family. I would like to add links, however, for other web sites that feature Brinegars. If you have a web site, please include the URL when you post a query.

Jacob Brinegar married Mary PROCK, daughter of Paul and Margaret PROCK, in Rowan Co. NC in December 1768. Mary's father Paul was deceased, and her mother gave consent on the marriage bond, indicating that Mary was under age. This name does appear in some records as Brock, but I prefer to keep it consistently as PROCK in my files since there is an unrelated Brock family in the same part of North Carolina (of English origin, whereas the Procks were German).

Jacob and Mary's son Thomas Brinegar was probably born about 1770. His wife's name was Rachel, but there's some uncertainty about her surname. MASTERSON appears in some genealogies, but I've been told that this is incorrect. Another possibility that has been suggested is HAGANS

Although you posted this query in 1998, I was curious if you are still active with the Brinegar ancestry. I am Larry son of Frank with the lineage of Alexander, Owen, Jacob, Jacob, Jacob, Adam and beyond this it becomes a little fuzzy.

Yes, I'm still interested in the Brinegar family!

My web page for this family is at

http://www.duke.edu/web/chlamy/brinegar.html

My own Brinegars stayed in the area of Davie Co. NC, and I haven't researched the ones who left there. However, there are many others who have posted to this board in the past who are working on other lines, especially the Kentucky families. I hope you will get other replies.

So far as I know, nobody has solid data further back than Adam Brinegar of Rowan Co. NC. My web page focuses mostly on his son Jacob (the one who married Mary Prock).

You can write me directly at ncgen@mindspring.com if you'd like to talk further. I will be happy to share what I have.

I am looking for a Delina Brinegar who married John Clark. They were from Virginia I believe. They moved on to Bowie County, Tx and both died there. Delina Bringegar is an unusual name so I thought it might be easy to trace, however it isn't so far! If you know of Delina, please contact me.

I think we are from the same line. Owen was my gg grandfather. My g grandfather was Jacob Burton who had a brother named Alexander R. Brinegar.

Here's the family info I have and let me know if this is your line as well.

Alexander R. Brinegar, Born 18 Jun 1874, Died 1945 in Marianna, PA

Married Anna Blance Smith about 1907

Had son Frank, Born 1909, Died 1972.

Frank married Blanche (?)

Had a child named Joan.

That's all the info I had on Alex.

I have an old family photo with Owen in it with some of his sons. I don't know who everyone is but perhaps I could email it to you and maybe your "Alex" is one of them.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
