Hello from Wild Wyoming, Welcome to the Brinegar research. First, how far back do you have information on the Brinegars? All Brinegars eminate from two brothers who came to North Carolina in the Early 1600's. If I can find the email address, of the Lady in Texas who once corresponded with me, she may be able to help. I belong to Ancestry.com which has been an invaluable source for me. I have contact with Brinegars over most of the country. I would be more than happy to help you in finding what you are looking for. Please email me at wwbrinegar@bresnan.com. I look forward to hearing from you. Bill Brinegar

Come here from very good background.

Patricia Jones Grandaughter of a Doe Creek Brinager.

My grandma's maiden name was Leatha Plowman. The only address I have for her is Doe Creek, KY (Estill County). I believe she married Charlie and had several children including: Walter (Buck), Richard, Eva, Forster, Cecil, Elmer my father - Willie. I know my father had several other siblings that had passed away before I was born. My father's DOB - 6/03/27. I believe Leatha passed away in 1971 while visiting Aunt Eva in Summersville, OH (I think I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade). Before Dad passed away in 1995, he told us lots of stories about his upbringing including the time his mother (Leatha) and all of the kids had to move in with her parents as Charlie was serving time in Frankfort (jail). Please send me any information you may have on Leatha/Charlie and/or their children. My email address is teka@fuse.net I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance; hope to hear from you soon.

Her parents were Thomas Edward Brinegar b. 5-13-1856, d. 6-16-1944 and Dora Dorthina Watkins b.8-29-1868, d.6-17-1950.

How are you related?
Hi,

No, I was looking at our family tree and do not see any Garners. Regarding your GGrandmother, Belle C., I do not see her as part of our side, unless she modified her name because we do have Thomas B. Brinegar, Sr. B. 10-8-1802 in Kentucky, m. to 1) Rachel Wilcoxson,Son: Thomas Jr. m.1) Elizabeth Hannah Wharton, and 2) Susan Jane Daughtery; with a daughter named Bellezora B. (Thomas & Elizabeth parents) b.5-7-1861. That is all I have on her.

thank you for writing!

Laura
Do you have any Garner's in your family line? My Great Grandmother was Belle C Brinegar, married Elza Beckett Garner. Belle was born in Collins MO, married in Collins MO. The next time I find them they are in the census in West Plains MO area, then moved on to OK. I don't have my info with me right now, but I believe she was born in 1869 married in 1883. I don know she died in 1955 buried in Yukon OK. Her obit says her Father was Thomas. I just came from Collins MO, the only thing I found there in the court house was their marriage cerificate.
Betty Parks

Fantastic! Sounds like this clan might be Martin Brinegar's bunch? Hopefully you've heard of "Brinegar Day" at the Brinegar Cabin? They have live demonstrations of crafts, occassionally light music, etc... If you look at the NPS Web site I'm sure you'll find more info.

I love talking about this stuff and would welcome any connections. Thank you.

Hello Lenny,
My name is Laura Rupert-Needham and I live in Seattle, WA. My maternal grandmother was Annabelle Brinegar. My cousins are: Shirley Brinegar-Fiddes (lives in Bremerton, WA), Beulah Brinegar-Newdoll (lives in Shell Beach, CA), and Lucy Brinegar-Engles (Lives in Redding, CA). My email is Dreamgrdn@aol.com. I have seen some accounts of Veith's life before coming to America but I don't know how accurate they are. Joy Alexander is a good source of info on the Brinegar's. She may reply to this info if she sees it posted.

So far as I know, nobody's ever gotten further back on this line in Europe, nor is there even any solid proof that the child Adam in the immigration records is the Adam Brinegar who settled in Rowan Co. NC. I'm working on the assumption that this is correct, but if anyone has documentation, I'd love to have it.

My Brinegar page is at

http://www.momslookups.com/generations/brinegar.html

I'm a descendant of Adam's son Jacob.

Looking for ancestors of Veith Bruninger b. abt. 1696 who traveled from Palatinate, Germany to Philadelphia with his wife Barbara and children Adam, Anna and Hans aboard the Britannia in 1731. Their name was Americanized to Brinegar. I descend from Veith, Adam, John, Jacob and then Anna Brinegar who married David Mocabee in KY in 1836. I have a photo of Anna if anyone is interested. Does anyone have info on Veith's life or ancestors prior to coming to America?

I'm currently away from home and away from my own notes and notebooks on people, but...

I'm speculating, the Daniel Holloway that witnessed the marriage of Martin Brinegar to Mary "Polly" Holloway was more likely to be Mary's brother, since the wedding took place in 1878. Mary had a brother, Daniel, that was born about 1840.

The Daniel Holloway (born 1796-ish), what was the name of his daughter that married the son of Jesse P. Caudill?

Lennie - Don't know how much you've found out since this posting but Martin Brinegar (builder/owner of Brinegar cabin on Parkway), Thomas Marshall (Parsh) Brinegar and Isaac Franklin Brinegar are brothers. I have just come from visiting the area. I did research at the Alleghany County Records office and also went "cemetery hunting" and have info from some headstones.

The parents of Martin, Thomas and Franklin are William and Mary "Polly" (Holloway) Brinegar. Mary's parents are Isaac and Mary "Polly" (Pruitt) Holloway. William was deceased by 1874 when Mary "Polly" Holloway Brinegar married Thomas C. Cleary on 27 Feb 1874 in the township of Cranberry in Alleghany County, NC. Thomas Cleary was a witness at the wedding of Martin Brinegar and Caroline Joines in Cranberry township, Alleghany County, NC. Two other witnesses at the wedding of Martin and Caroline are Daniel Holloway and Levi Joines.

William's parents are Thomas Brinegar (born about 1800) and Sarah. That's all the info I currently have on them.

The parents of Thomas Brinegar (born about 1800) are Jacob and Nancy (Frasier) Brinegar. Info I have is Jacob, born 25 Feb 1778, Rowan County, NC; died 29 Jul 1844, Wilkes County, NC. Nancy (Frasier) Brinegar, born about 1780 in Rowan, NC.

Yes, he's been identified. Previously I had written that I thought he must be a grandson of Thomas Hampton Brinegar of Davie County NC, and based on census records, this appears to be correct. His parents are Thomas Bryant Brinegar and Sarah Avaline Allen, who married in Davie County in 1879. They appear in the 1900 census in Jerusalem district, Davie County with three children, the youngest of whom is Thomas M. born May 1889.

Thomas Hampton Brinegar was the son of Joshua Brinegar who died in 1846 in Davie County NC. I'm still looking for confirmation of Joshua's wife's name. In 1834 Joshua and wife Sarah Brinegar witnessed a will, but I don't have proof yet that Sarah was the mother of his children.

Joshua Brinegar was the son of Jacob Brinegar and Mary Prock of Rowan Co. NC.

Jacob was the son of Adam Brinegar, who is assumed to be the ancestor of most Brinegars in the U.S.

My Brinegar page is at

http://www.momslookups.com/generations/brinegar.html
Chris: Thanks for the photos. I did find the picture of Owen and family earlier and I don't know any of the people in it except it was noted the young guy with the dog may be Clyde. Clyde is the only brother of my grandfather,Alex, that I knew personally. He lived in Perryopilis, Pa. about 10 miles from where I grew up in Charleroi, Pa. His wife was Maud Marie Poffenbarger. They only had one daughter I believe, Mary Madaline born in 1918. The other photo I hadn't seen until now and the man on the right bears a very good resemblance to Clyde. None of the other men are Alex I don't think, although they all bear the same features. The high foreheads (balding)and angular faces are unmistakable Brinegars. I wonder if the man second from right might be Hugh who was the oldest son. He was 21 years older than Clyde.
Iam retired and live in Florida now but lived in Lynchburg, Va.for 21 years. My brother-in-law lives in Colonial Heights. I haven't input all my family data to the tree on Ancestry. When I do, you can look and see where we have common roots.
Larry, Here's another picture. We believe this is of Naomi Riggs Brinegar, wife of Owen Brinegar, with some of her sons. My great grandfather, Jacob, is second from the left. I don't know who the others are, perhaps you do.

Larry,

It's awesome to find such a close relative!! I have a tree on ancestry.com. Send me your email address and I'll give you access and you can see what info I have on the family.

I'm married with 2 children. My mother is a Brinegar. Her father was James Burton Brinegar, son of Jacob Burton Brinegar. Owen was Jacob's father. Jacob married Lola Virginia Reel and they had 5 children, Mildred (who died at about age 4), Forrest, James, Geraldine and Lucille. All of them have passed away.

My grandfather, James Burton Brinegar, married Daisy Irene Turner and they had 6 children, my mother, Harlene, being the third one. Both my grandparents have passed away as well.

I've attached the picture that I mentioned. (If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll email it to you directly). I think I had a description attached to the picture but it may not be accurate since I've done more research since I posted it on my tree.

The people that I know for sure are: Owen Brinegar, older man with beard seated in the middle. The lady on the far right looking at the little girl is my great grandmother, Lola Virginia Reel Brinegar. The man standing in the back holding the little boy is my great grandfather, Jacob Burton Brinegar. My mother and I believe that the little boy being held by Jacob is Jacob and Lola's oldest son, Forrest Eugene Brinegar. We are unsure of any of the others. The men in the picture are probably brothers of Jacob but not sure who would be who. Clyde was the youngest so that may be him on the far left. The woman could be a wife of one of the brothers or perhaps Owen's daughter Ida Brinegar Kitzmiller and one of the men could be her husband. Not sure who the little girls are. Maybe you could help identify some of these people.

Chris: We are of the same Brinegar lineage. Alexander was my grandfather and Frank is my father. Owen is my g grandfather and Jacob my g Uncle. That would make us cousins three times removed I guess. Frank had one brother (Clifford) and one sister (Hazel). All have passed away. They were born in Henry W. Va. Grant Co. and moved to Marianna, Pa. before 1920 working the coal mines there. Frank moved to Charleroi, Pa. in the late 1920's and married Blanche and had three children--Joan, Larry, and Diane. I have three children--Matt, Erin and Peter. I would appreciate the photo you mentioned and some background info on yourself. Perhaps we can find more of our roots. The most amazing thing I discovered is that I am a tenth generation Brinegar, Veith immigrating in 1731, 45 years before the declaration of independence.
Larry

Chris, thank you for the reply. I do not know if there is a connection. The reason is the only Brinegar I know of is Delina. I do not know who her parents were, or any other family members from the Brinegar's. I know she married John Clark, and from her descendants I've been pretty lucky. As far as her lineage, I know absolutely nothing. I am sorry I cannot be more helpful to you. When I learn more I will post again. Or if someone replies about Delina, I can find out more, then we will know if there is a connection.
