I am trying to find a tie between a Cathey that I am a decendent of and a Cathey in the Civil War. My ancestor is James Cathey, born March 11th 1812 in Haywood, NC and died February 3rd 1887 in Towns, GA. His father was William Cathey and his mother was Elizabeth Bryson. I found three James Cathey's in the Civil War, in the 25th NC Infantry, 37th NC Infantry and the 62nd NC Infantry. However I am unable to find enough information on the listings I have in the Civil War to make a tie to my ancestor. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I may be able to help. One civil war Cathey was Benjamin Cathey. He was a descendant of this line. I also have a picture and can help you with any information pertaining to this particular person.

I am descended from a Jethro B. Cathey (sometimes listed as J.B. Cathey) who served in the 2nd Tennessee Cavalry Battalion [also called 3rd Battalion], organized in 1861 in Maury County, TN. It later was merged into the 6th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment (Wheeler's 1st Tennessee Cavalry). He moved to the Dallas area of Texas following the Civil War and is buried near DeSoto, TX.

HI, We have three Cathey civil war soldiers in our line but none by that name. I have pictures of our three. The civil war soldiers we have records on were from the smoky mountains in North Carolina

James Cathey was born 11 Mar 1812 (per William Cathey Family Bible) in Haywood Co, NC. He was probably named for his two uncles: James Cathey and James N. Bryson.
James Cathey married Emily Brown on 25 May 1846 in Union Co, GA

Their children are also listed in Cathey Family History and Genealogy Volume I (1700-1900)
