I am looking for connections to Arthur Couch whose daughter, Alice Amanda Couch (born 1859, NY) married John Richard Bogert. Alice and John were my great grandparents.

Hi Harriet,

I don't have any info regarding this query but had a question for you regarding a post of yours from 1999 - the post is here:

http://newsarch.rootsweb.com/th/read/NYC-ROOTS/1999-06/09286...

Were you ever able to find out what church Adolph Berckmann was a minister at? I'm in the same situation you were in - have a marriage cert. from 1881 signed off by Adolph but need the church records as well...but have no idea what church he was minister for. If I can find those records I might be able to topple a long standing brick wall.

Thanks - sorry to burst in on this thread but I can't send you a message b/c I don't have a paid ancestry membership.

Thanks,

EJ Wrann

Adolf Berkmann??? I'm checking my family marriage certificates and will get back to you. By the way I am on Facebook--free! Join me...
I'll also check the German Genealogy Group which has some coverage in the past on churches. Are we talking about the protestant church on Rivington St. in NYC? I don't think it is still around but the records are--at least that is my understanding.

Hi!

I'm not sure what church it is. In your old post you said you had a NYC Marriage Cert. that indicated the couple was married by Adolph Berckmann of 95 Rivington St. I too have ancestors married by the same man in 1881. I can't quite figure out what church he was a minister at though...was wondering if you were ever able to figure it out.

I know there was a church around the corner from 95 Rivington on Suffolk St. called "The German Evangelical Reformed Church". That church is disbanded and their records are at St. Paul's Lutheran church in the Bronx. There was also a Presbyterian Church on Rivington. I have no idea what church Adolph Berckmann was a minister at though so I'm not sure what church's records to look for haha!

Thanks :-)

You won't believe this but I looked at the records I have and I think the church was the Presbyterian because I remember the 95 Rivington address. Did I mention this on the Couch/Bogert thread or one for Huneke/Hausenbauer? I think it was Hausenbauer and, of all things, the marriage cert. is missing from my book on that family group. That being the case, the German Gen. Group might be able to help us and I belong to that group and can possible find the information you need. My e-mail address is harriettdauger@gmail.com. Just put Rivington in the subject.
