Searching for Couch Family

V. Burris  (View posts) Posted: 1 May 1999 5:36PM GMT
My gggrandfather was Bill Couch (possibly William). His wife was Mary - don't have her maiden name. Their daughter Emma Elizabeth Couch was my ggrandmother. At some point Emma ended up in Arkansas. They may have been living there during the Civil War. Bill was supposed to have been killed by bushwackers on his way home from the war. Would like to hear from anyone about the Couch family.

Dear sir,
Andy and I are working on an archaeological project @ Duke University, and we've discovered a Couch family cemetery that has not previously been recorded. There is a William Couch burried there, and we know he was married to a Mary. All of the details are not clear right now, so please feel free to contact us with any helpful info. you might have. Thank you.

My g grandfather was William Couch who married Hannah Johns in Kentucky either 1824 or26 ,they had one child John Harrod Couch. They died and John was raised by his grandparents Jacob and Rachel Johns. John Harrod couch was a physician andsurgeon and died in Fort Scott Kansas 1883. Do you have any information about the Couch family of William Couch. He may have come from Pennsylvania and before that Wales but I really domt know.

Andy Ashley, By now you probablyh have graduated and are no longer interested
in the old Couch family cemetery plots of Will and Mary Couch. I have at least two Williams in Orange County, NC (Duke may have been in Orange County at one time).
One William was b Hillsborough, NC in 1758 and d 28, Nov 1805. This William fought in Rev. War under Maj Charles Robertson. I do not have his wife's name but my records say he may have married dau of Edward Stone.

If you are still interested I have a few more tidbits. It seems to me I ran accross a reference to an old Couch family cemetery on the UNC-Chapel Hill Campus. But surely Duke students would not grace the UNC campus even for antiquity.

Let me know if you want me to search further.

Bob Couch (retired AUBURN UNIVERSITY)

Another William was b Mary 26, 1782.
