Samuel Elder (ancestry unknown) born, say 1760, married a Hannah, say 1781. Samuel's will was probated 28 June 1811 Sevier Co TN. Hannah died 1829 and was buried Meigs Co TN.

They had a son John who married Nancy Sullins 2 April 1808. Would you know perchance what happened to this John Elder?

They also had a son William (b. prob. ca 1783, TN; died summer 1823 Jefferson Co TN) who married Rebecca Cate June 1803 Jefferson Co TN. They had a son Elijah, born probably 1805-10, Tennessee. I wonder if he is the same Elijah who died 14 Sept 1886, Macon Co, MO. First wife was Jane Craig; second wife Mrs. Jane Walker. Your insights would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am looking for information on my Grandfather who passed on when I was two in IL. My mother never knew his family as she was brought to IL as a youngster. His name was Willie (perhaps William) Kane Elder b.9FEB1904 married Arvie True Edwards in KY. Because he worked for the railroad, his family has been very hard to trace. My grandmother has alzheimer's only speaks of her parents. Please help if you can. Thanks!

Dear Kenneth:
I am related to Samuel Elder. I have corresponded with a lady whose ggggrandfather was Samuel Elder, the brother of Elija Elder. Perhaps she can help you. Her name is Diane Weaver and her e-mail address is djweaver@one-eleven.net. By the way, my line goes back to Peter Elder (ancestor of Samuel Elder) who died in Virginia in 1674. If you have any information on any of the Elders, I sure would appreciate it. Gary Whitice. (By the way, are you related to the Elders?)

Moultrie Co IL Elders - Samuel (d. 1811)

I am an Elder descendant - my mother's mother's mother was Edgracia Elder.

Thank you for the referral to Ms Weaver. I will follow up.

You state that you go back to Peter Elder, "ancestor or Samuel Elder". I presume you refer to Samuel Elder who died ca 1811, will probated 28 June 1811 Sevier Co, TN, husband of Hannah. I have never seen proof of Samuel's ancestry. There is a lineage posted on the net that gives him a father but I have never seen the proof of that relationship. What do you have on him?

I refer you to my cousin's book on the line: Descendants of Samuel Elder (died about 1811) And His Son William Elder (died in 1823) Who Settled in Moultrie County, Illinois, by Warner Davis. It takes much background material from Virginia Knight Nelson's book Families Named Elder in East Tennessee
