My ggg grandfather Henry English, Sr. (1773-1857) married an Oaks/Oakes and they lived in the Yellow Mountain area of WNC. Some say this was Rachel Oaks/Oakes while I have also heard it was a Jemima Oaks/Oakes. They had four children: William English, Daniel English, Henry English, Jr. and Gabriel English. If you know of an Oaks/Oakes marrying an English, I would much appreciate your help. If you are related to this couple, I have much info to share.

There is some confusion about the name Rachel or Jemima, Oakes or Wiseman. Henry's son, Daniel married a Jemima Wiseman, I think. SO I am summising that Henry married Rachel Oakes. Check out my English family tree on Ancestry.com.

I too have been trying to find Rachael Oakes. I have searched Tenn, NC, PA, and national marriage records but can't find Rachael Oakes. I have in my notes that she was born in 1775 in TN, don't really know where that came from.
I'll keep searching for her, hate to loose a family member. Donna English Woody
