Hi there
My name is Breda and my maiden name is English. I'm from Co Tipperary, Ireland. There are lots of English's around here. You need to change the name of your town when you are searching for your ancestor. It should be Mitchelstown. It is in the North-East of county Cork and not too far from the Tipperary border. (4 miles)
Check out the website www.brsgenealogy.com . The Tipperary/Limerick end of it is good but the Cork end not so hot. Mitchelstown is in an area of Cork that is 1 mile from the Limerick border and 4 miles from Tipperary.

Looking for someone in N Carolina writing book on English

I'm looking for a lady in North Carolina who visited Moate, County Westmeath, Ireland, while doing research on a book on the English family. There is an English family in County Westmeath.

The reason why I'm looking for her is that she knows how to contact an informative individual called Cecil English. Martina Griffin, of the local historical society, apparently gave her Mr. English's unlisted phone number, and then lost it, and the local historical librarian who sees him rarely doesn't have it.

Thanks.

Yours,
Dora Smith
tiggernut24@yahoo.com

I have more information on the English line and some living descendants of this English line. I am branching out to the Lincoln lines in hope of coming along some information on Bryson T. English who was a son of Andrew Montgomery English and a brother to John Wilson and Jane English. I know that Bryson first married an S.E. McMillin in 1881 in Fayetteville, TN. He had a son Joseph Montgomery. I believe he had 2 children by Nancy Jane Wallace, Lowe and Lottie Wallace who were born in 1889 and 1895. I do know that the Wallace's and English's knew each other but I have yet to find anyone who know's if Bryson is indeed the father of Lowe and Lottie. I have even spoken with a descendant of Bryson's and he was not aware of this.

My English family came from the Saville Twp, Juniata, Rye area of Cumberland, now Perry Co. Pa. The descendent which is my direct line was born 1730. (David English) His 4th gen. grandson Abraham English (1801-1882) is the line I am most interested in. I believe there must be a direct connection. Please keep in touch as I might be able to help you if you get parent's names.

The Harry Lenig Library in Newport PA is a goldmine of genealogical information for Perry Co. www.newportpubliclibrary.org They have limited hours, but are most helpful.

Good Luck

He was living on Bridgeport Road in 1910. James died in 1911 and is buried in the Landisburg Cemetery. His widow filed for a pension January 20, 1911.

Thanks,

Joe
morse73@ptd.net

I am looking for some information on my great, great parents, John English ((b 1836 Kilkenny, Quebec) and Ester Allen (b 1838? Canada). They had 13 children - Thomas, Brereton, Richard (Dick), Margaret Ann, George, Edward, Elizabeth Mary (my great grandmother), Albert, and Gordon. Non surviving children were John, William, Mary Ann and Sarah.

My understanding is that they lived in Kilkenny, Quebec which I think is now St. Hippolyte de Kilkenny, in the Laurentians north of Montreal. I would love any information on that may be available on this family. Birth dates, marriage date, dates of death, place of birth etc....

Thank you.

Henry English and Matilda Rains

Matilda Rains' father was Jesse Rains, not John Rains. Her mother was Kezziah Ezell. Jesse and Kezziah were married in Sumner Co., TN in 1821 and moved to Ohio Co., KY by 1830. They had eight children together, including Matilda, who was born in April 1835 in Ohio Co. Matilda married 1st James C. McGill and had a child named Catherine. After McGill died (in the Civil War?) she married Henry R. English, who was her sister Sarah's husband. Sarah, also called Sally, and a child named Hardin probably died after the 1860 census. Matilda and Henry are found on the 1870 census in Ohio co.KY. Children are: Kasiah, Mary J., Hardin, Thomas, Lewis W., Rosa, and Jesse. These were all her sister Sarah's children. Her own child, Catherine, is missing from the census. Matilda and Henry next appear in 1880 in Rumsey, McLean Co., KY. Louis W., Rosa, Jessie M., John and Thomas are in the household. John, a 5-year-old in 1880, is the only child that appears to be hers. The 1900 census shows her living with Maywood English who claims her as his mother. Is this Jesse M.? One of Maywood's children is named "Arvil" or "Orvil", which is my grandfather's name. He was Matilda's nephew.
