I am looking for more information relating to Henry Ludwig Ernst or his family. I know that he and his family left Germany sometime after his birth but not sure when. His birthdate is: 28 Oct 1857. He died 07 Sept 1952 in Portland, OR. His siblings were (they had last names of either Moore or Ernst): Emma Moore, Henricka Moore, William Moore, and Mary C. Moore. His father was Henry Y. Ernst and mother was Margaret Schutte...I think of Copenhagen? I believe her birth is: 06 Mar 1830 -30 Apr 1915.

Any information relating to any of the above mentioned would be greatly appreciated.

He is around 50 yrs. old, so she would be about 50 or 51 if she's alive. Did you ever find any Ernst's in Essex Fells? I was just curious.

Thank you.
Kari Roberts

I stumbled onto this posting this evening and can't believe how much our family names run together. My dad, Marvin Charles Ernst (b. Feb 1932, d. May 1990) was from Ste. Genvieve, Missouri. His father was Valle Ernst, his mother Agnes Gernhardt. I am not clear, but think my great-grandpa was Francois Valle Ernst. My dad many years ago looked into his roots, but seemed to get stuck in Illinois, but I may be wrong. My dad had 5 brothers and I sister. Frank, Richard, Carl, Don, Allen, and Carol. They moved to California when my dad was in high school. A beautiful catholic chapel in the middle of Ste Genevieve has some family history written into the stained glass windows. The newsapaper was run (or something) by my grandpa back in the day. If someone has any links or is close enough to check it out, I'd love to know if it helps connect anyone. We seem to have all come from a similar place to begin with, so maybe if we pool our efforts, we can make sense of it sometime.

Johann (John) Ernst b abt 1848, Holslien (Holstein?)

Can any one on this list please help me with where I might find anything further about Johann ERNST. He was born about 1848 according to his Scottish Marriage certificate of 1878. He used John as his forename on his marriage certificate.

His parents are thought to be (the writing is very poor) - Father Jurgen who was a Master Blacksmith and had died by the time of his sons wedding. Mother Anna - initial letter of surname maybe 'A' but the rest (4 or 5 letters) are hard to read - who had also died by the time of her son's marriage.

The place of birth Holslein (could it be Holstein- Germany or Denmark?) in was noted in a document concerning his sea-going carrer as was his forename of Johann, he was master mariner up until at least 1896.

Thank you

Of the members of my family tree that I have documented, I only have two Andrews or Andreas. One was born in Russia in 1853, married in Michigan after coming to America as a young man, and lost his only child as a toddler. The other is my grandfather, born in 1888, and his only son was my father.

As for a Joseph, I have a Ludwig Joseph born in Leonbronn, Kingdom of Württemberg, Germany on 26 Feb 1745, and a Johann Jossef born in the same place on 19 May 1816. I have no information about either of them--no spouse, emigration, or descendents.

I also don't yet have knowledge of whether ALL brothers and cousins went to Russia or whether some stayed in Germany and/or came directly to America or elsewhere.

If you can manage to learn to decipher the old German script, the very best source of information I have found are the LDS microfilms of village church records in Germany (and in my case Russia as well). Expecially since you have a village/city that you believe is Joseph's birth place. The Evangelische Kirche records are arranged chronologically in one area and by family in another--with other areas for deaths and marriages. I imagine the Catholic records are similar. So you have to be paitent. I understood about the family pages long after I began searching and found most sibblings and/or children of my gg, ggg, gggg, and ggggg grandparents by slowly scanning the "last name" column for "Ernst" and noting the parents' names to create family groups.

And, while I have most information about my gg grandfather's sibblings' families, I have no record of Johann Josef's (gg grandfather's brother listed above))family.

And I know quite a bit about my all of my ggg grandfather's brothers' families except Georg Caspar Ernst born 03 Mar 1764.

My gggg grandfather's brothers' families are all still unknown to me and any of the five of them could have married and moved to a nearby village and had children who eventually moved to America. They were Johann Georg 1734, Georg Samuel 1737, Johann Balthas 1740, Johann Friederich 1743, and the Ludwig Joseph I have already mentioned.

I am sorry that after seven years I could be no more help than that!

Sheryl

A little quicker than 7 years ... but not by much! I show a Josehp Ernst born in Lippach, Wurtemberg, Germany in 1839. He would have been my ggg grandfather, father of Sarah Ernst who married Isador Uhl in 1880 and was born in Muscatine, Iowa in 1865. So ... It may seem like since they were from the same area of Germany, perhaps there is a connection, but mine came to the US instead of Russia?
Let me know your thoughts. Josephs father may have been "Andreas" Ernst.

Only seven years later . . .

My Ernst family records are all in the Evangelical Kirche records of Leonbronn, Kingdom of Wuerttemberg (Germany) back to the early 1700's.

My direct lineage (but not necessarily all of the Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins) emigrated to Russia in 1834.

I currently have no records of an "Alois" on my family tree. Where in Germany were they from?

Sheryl
mpelec@peoplepc.com

I may know of Alma's family line that Arvil Ernest married. I believe we have the same Arvil. The Alma I am referring to was raised in Cincinnati Ohio by her father and step-mother. I am looking for any info on Arvil's and Alma's children, as to where they got to. My Arvil and Alma Ernest died in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.
