Hi There! I am related to this family. My maiden name is Garrett and I was birn in Illinois. My Great Great Grandfather was David A. Garrett son of Henry Garrett and Martha Patsy Anderson. David had several brothers including Fleming, Benjamin Franklin, Andrew and Richard. There were also I believe two girls in that family. Would love to hear from family. Hi there cousin Joe, very nice to meet you! Let's see, where should I start. My dad was Earl LaVerne Garrett and my mother Vivian Elda Anderson. Dad was born May 7, 1910 in North Henderson, Mercer Co., Il. Died December 25, 1985. His dad was Richard Garrett and his mother was Frances Ida Meeker. Richard was born Feb. 13, 1873 in North Henderson, Mercer Co., Il.. He died March 13, 1959. My Great Grandfather's name was also Richard Garrett. He was born in 1830 in Virginia. In 1834 Richard's parents moved to Kentucky. Richard spent his youth in Ky. He married Juliet Douglas on Dec 24, 1848. They had a very large family. They lived in Breckinridge and Meade Counties of Kentucky and then moved to Texas. One year later they left Texas and settled in the territory that would become North Henderson, Il. Richard's father, David A. Garrett lived in I believe Boyle County, Kentucky and eventually moved into Lewis County, Missouri where he died in Monticello, Missouri. I sure would love to visit that area and see my Great Great Grandfather's grave. I would also like to find where GGGGrandfather is buried. I just found out this past summer who my Garrett family ancestors where. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have pictures of my Great Grandparents Richard and Juliet and some pictures of their children. I would be happy to share any information that I have. Do you have any pictures of early Garrett relatives. This quest of ancestors has become quite addictive. Where was this family located? My 2nd ggf married Susan Hill Garrett in Middlesex Co., VA in 1841, and she had an apparent brother named Lumpkin Garrett. These Garretts appear to have been the children of a Richard Garrett. Any connection to your family? There was a William Garrett and some Hills on the 1783 Essex Co., VA tax list who could have also been related. Thanks!

William Garrett Sr born 1710 Westmoreland CO VA. Died 1817 at Trimnity Parish in Louisa CO VA. Married Elizabeth Ashton, daugher of Col. Ashton and Elizabeth Hardwick.

He was a large landowner in Gloucester, Louisa, Spottsylvania, and Albemarle counties in Virginia and a planter in Louisa County in the middle of the 18th century (1761). He was born around 1715, probably the son of John Garrett, Jr. Documentation supports the belief that the line is descended from the William Garrett of the Jamestown Colony, but no clear connection may be proven.

About 1735, William Garrett, Sr. married Elizabeth Ashton. See the Ashton group. There had been much intermarriage among the Garretts and Ashtons in England prior to 1700. The home of William Garrett, Sr., from 1767, was Trinity Parish in Louisa County. He was sworn in as Justice of the Peace in Louisa County on 15 April 1771. A substantial portion of William Garrett Sr.'s land holdings were on the North Fork of the Pamunkey River, in the vicinity of other family relations including the Winstons, Carrs, Meriwethers, Crenshaws, Crawfords, and Beazleys. The extent of his land holdings can perhaps be better measured by the monetary bond for £100,000 required of the executors of his will.

The children of William and Elizabeth (Ashton) Garrett, as named in his will of 3 February 1779, were as follows:

1. William Garrett, Jr., born ca 1740, died 1817, lived most of his life in Louisa County. He married Ann Johnson on 10 December 1770. Their son, William Garrett III served as a private in Captain William Taylor's Company of the 2nd Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Alexander Spottswood. The descendants of this line moved to Maryland and lived in Baltimore and Rockville.

2. John Garrett, born ca 1745, died without issue in 1770.

3. HENRY Garrett, father of Peter R. Garrett of Cape Girardeau, was born about 1745 and died in 1815 in Kentucky. He married Mary Johnson, daughter of Major Thomas Johnson of Roundabout Castle where the family lived for many years. My ancestor.

4. Ann Garrett married William Johnson of Roundabout Castle in Louisa County.
5. Elizabeth Garrett married Thomas Terrell.

6. Susanna Garrett married Richard Johnson, son of Nicholas Johnson and Elizabeth Hudson.

Do you know of a Joseph Ashton Garrett in this family. He is buried in Baltimore, Maryland in about 1943. HIs father was William F. (or T.) Garrett and his mother was Mary McCall Garrett. I don't know much about this part of my family, but his name seems to fit into this family.
