Re: 1000 Years from Normandy - Sallie Mauldin Garrett

I believe I found the reference to Mauldin that was in the book:

Edward R. Garrett, GARRETT: 1000 YEARS FROM NORMANDY (c) 1989
by Edward R. Garrett, Houston, Texas printed by D. Armstrong Co., Inc.,
Houston, Texas, p. 35; Mauldin: Early settlers in Maryland. In Stafford County,
Virginia, Jacob Mauldin left a will in 1704. This name shows up in Loudoun
County, Virginia around 1750. There is a Mauldin will in North Carolina (From Fred Olds book) name does not show in Revolutionary War files of North Carolina. Richard Mauldin was prominent in Caroline County, Virginia in 1730. (From T.E. Campbell book.) In 1727 in Caroline County, Virginia, Thomas Mauldin was a Justice. In Pendleton County, South Carolina, in 1790. Captain Blake Mauldin, Jeb Mauldin, John Mauldin, Harris Mauldin. They lived near where Laurens County joins the Anderson County Line. BIRTH-DEATH: p. 86 Tombstone Inscriptions at Warrior Creek Church Cemetery, Laurens County, South Carolina.

Comments on the above notes:
1) Jeb Mauldin would be Joab Mauldin born 1765-1774, died 1818. One son of Joab, Benjamin Franklin Mauldin, lived to 1880 and list his father born in SC. An 1899 book showed that Joab Mauldin was a native of Abbeville Sc. If these references are accurate, then Joab is not a direct relative of John, Blake and Harris Mauldin because these men were previously in NC and did not likely arrive in SC until after 1780.
2)Blake and Harris Mauldin are commonly believed to be the sons of this John Mauldin. They are of the age range to be brothers to Sarah (Sallie) Mauldin. During the revolution, Blake was an Ensign in the Army and after the war was promoted to Captain. Note that Ensign was once a rank of Army officers and was not his naval rank.
3)This John Mauldin was married to Sarah Blake Mauldin. John Mauldin made swords for the Continental Army and was excused taxes in 1782 due to his service. This John Mauldin receive a land grant in 1780 in Pendleton near the current Anderson/Pickens/Laurens county lines... which was not particularly close to the Warrior Creek area of Laurens where John and Sallie Mauldin Garrett lived. However, the son of itinerant baptist minister Bro.(Rev) Moses Sanders, Aaron Sanders lived near John and Sarah Mauldin. Bro. Moses Sanders owned land in Warrior Creek, Laurens Co, SC
4)In tracking Sarah (Sallie) Mauldin Garrett's children that lived to 1880, you will see that their mother was born in North Carolina. The religious traditions of John and Sallie Mauldin were baptist.

Observations & Conclusions:
1. John and Sarah Blake Mauldin were of the age to be the parents of Sarah (Sallie) Mauldin Garrett. They had moved to SC prior to the 1781-1782 marriage of Sarah (Sallie) Mauldin to John Garrett.
2. Bro. Moses Sanders had connections near the probably presumed family of the bride and family of the groom (John Garrett).
3. It was common during this period for parents to name the first daughter after the mother... Sarah.
4. It is proved that Sarah was born in NC, the state in which John Mauldin married Sarah Blake circa 1757.
5. I believe it is likely that John and Sarah Blake Mauldin were the parents of Sarah (Sallie) Mauldin Garrett and that she was born 10 JUN 1763 in Chatham, NC. I believe it is likely that Bro. Moses Sanders perform the wedding ceremony of Sarah (Sallie) Mauldin to John Garrett in Warrior Creek area of Laurens Co, SC 1781-1782.

According to some snippets I found on Google, there is some information pertaining to Mauldin on pages 35-39 in "Garrett:1000 Years from Normandy". I already know that a Sarah (Sallie) Mauldin married a John Garrett circa 1781. Could someone make a copy/send of pages 35-39 so that I could read what the author says about Blake, John, Jeb, Jacob and Richard Mauldin?

btw, both the Jeb and Jacob are likely mispellings of the name Joab.

Thanks - Ron Mauldin

She died in Mount carmel. She also had four children; Fred Otto, Edgar A, Adam Ray, and Eva F. Crandall. I am having trouble discovering Olethia's parents.
Re: Edward M. Garrett of Middlesex Co., VAVirginia early 1800's

Edward M. Garrett of Middlesex Co., VA was apparently a son of an older Edward Garrett who had married Mary Mountain. The older Edward Garrett died, and Mary Mountain married next to Braxton Clarke. This explains why Braxton Clarke was living with the younger Edward Garrett (age 42), per the 1850 Middlesex Co., VA census. In 1860, Braxton Clarke (age 60) was living in his own home in Middlesex, and he was then married to a Sarah Unknown (age 70). A couple of the Garect children, including Collin Parrish Garrett, were living with Braxton Clarke in 1860. It appears that the above two Edward Garretts were the Edward Garrett, Senior and Junior who appeared on the 1820 census in King and Quenn Co., VA...though that census page is VERY difficult to read. Comments/questions?

My dad served in the Army Air Corps before and during WWII. I have a photo album of his that was signed by some of the men in his unit. One of the names is “George W Garrett, 1432 18th Street, Columbus, Georgia“. I also have some photos but there are no names or dates on them but I believe most were taken in Hawaii just before the war started. I am looking for anyone who might be able to identify any of the men in the pictures.
Looking for descendents of Zack Garrett born abt. 1848. His wife was named Sithey, possibly maiden name of Montgomery, also born in MS. They had 2 sons, Joseph Alexander born abt. 1868 and Jonathan "Bud" born abt. 1871. They also had a daughter Nancy. In 1880 they were living in Palo Pinto Cnty, TX, but I believe Zack's two sons may have been living in Lamar Cnty, TX in 1900. Joseph Alexander had a daughter he named Sithey after his mother.

In giving my info on Joseph I forgot to mention that the Cherokee connection (I'm told) comes through Joseph's son Robert's (my gr.grandfather) wife Nancy Emeline Brookshire.
Can't confirm this at this time.Any info on the Brookshire
I'm still trying to confirm.
Margene

It has been a while since I delved into Edward Garrett line.
I think there is a connection but have not confirmed that. Story goes that Joseph was b. 1767 in SC. Census records show his b.d. as ca 1786 b. in SC, father William b. VA.
Joseph had a younger brother, William, b. ca 1792 in SC. He llived in Union Co. GA. Both Joseph and William md. into the Stroud family. Joseph md Sarah and William md half
sister Jane. This is documented. Their father was Peter Stroud, Jr. Joseph d. in Gilmer Co, GA in 1883 according
to my grandfather. The line goes - Joseph; son Robert; son James (my grandfather; dau Josie; then me (Margene). The best I have come up with is Joseph b. 1786; father William; son Joseph. This Joseph possibly came to America ca 1790.
But this is notes passed between Robert and his brothers. There was a Bible (names recorded in England)- it was loaned either to a relative or neighbor because if its age.
There was a house fire & the Bible was destroyed. I believe that Joseph is found in Spartanburg, SC. William Garrett was in Spartanburg, SC md to a Turner. Story handed down was that our William (Joseph's father) believed to have md a Turner. Garrett's & Turner's were neighbors. Again haven't found any research on that Turner/Garrett line that has been published.
All of this came about in the late 1930's when Levi Garrett
(Garrett Snuff Co) died. People were trying to establish a family connection.
Does any of this help you?
genierob@bellsouth.net
