I have the Gemmill connection through my Ggrand mother Janet Gemmill who married Andrew Hemphill in Huron county Ontario Canada. I also have the photo book of Janet's Mother Annie Mc Michol who was David Gemmill's wife.
I do not know who most of the people are but would be willing to send a copy of the pictures to anyone who may know who they are. It is a nice small book but lots of pictures.
Let me know if anyone is interested .
thank you Mary

For any who may wonder. I actually went to Scotland in October of 2008 and was fortunate to link up with a cousin, Catherine Wilson, who was friends with another cousin William Campbell of Edinburgh who is the original Templehouse Gemmill researcher. He has been researching since he was 14 years old and is about to turn 80. He found a lost generation and corrected his previous work. He does his research the hard way, in the actual halls of records and places of origin. Gemmill became Gemmell and for those wanting to trace this family from Dunlop and have a most likely correct tree please see GeMMell Family Tree. I have recorded this branch of the family back to 1474.

Who were Jane and Daisy Gemmill who had their photograph taken on the Isle of Wight in January 1900? Their photo was found in the papers of the family of William Nelson Gemmell (1907-1966) of Whitefish (Sudbury) Ontario, Canada but no known connection between his family and Jane and Daisy Gemmill is known. Can anyone help to identify them?
Tina

I have the following: William Gemmell born Irvine Ayrshire 1702 parent John Gemmell and Janet Crooks.
Margaret Scot parents James Scot and Magdaline Rankin.
His son James was recorded as Gamel. Sometimes it makes the lines hard to follow. I believe they were both mariners "Ship's masters" according to the records I have managed to find. They could also have been Captains.
Hope this helps some.
Rita

They had a son named David Weir Gemmill who was born September 11, 1860.

James Hutchison Gemmill b1834 Ramsay Twp., Lanark Co., Ontario married Harriet Chamberlain (or Dean?) bc1839 in USA. They had four children Margaret bc1858, John b1860, James Dean b1863 and Agnes b1864. They were still living in Ramsay Twp., Lanark Co. in 1863, then disappear from the records. All children are living with various relatives in Ontario in 1871 and 1881. Family legend suggests that James and Harriet "went to the USA". About that time James and Harriet "went to the USA". Their daughter Agnes may have been born there. All children are living with relatives in either Lanark Co. or Renfrew Co., Ontario in 1871 and 1881. Trying to discover where James and Harriet went in the States and what happened to them.
Jo-Anne,

I am helping a friend do some research on her family and believe that she is related to Robert ROBERTSON and Elizabeth GEMMILL through their daughter Eliabeth who was born in Rosetta, Lanark, Ontario in 1850. I would be interested in how far back you have been able to take either of these families.

Many thanks.............Kieran.

Evelyn,

Not sure if I can help but my g-grandfather & g-g-grandfater were both named Thomas. As far as I know the family lived in the York, Pa area. Gggrandfather married Catherine Gillespi about 1934. There is a William in there some where but can't make the connection. The family came from Scotland but not sure when. Have a copy of a letter from William to Thomas Gemill, Greenock, dated June 3,1840 but no mention of twins. Have been in touch to a Tom Gemmill who has helped me a great deal. We feel sure there is a connection but can't find that missing link.
Kathy KBOBV@aol.com

Kerri,

I can't get past Thomas Gemmill but do know there was a John & William back in Scotland. Having a real problem finding a link. My grandfather left a letter that was exchanged between two brothers. Any information you might have might just help linking the family back to Scotland.

Thanks

Hoping this will lead to the link between my g-g-grandfather Thomas and William. This Gemmill were from Scotland and know Thomas had siblings. My grandfather was Worthy, and his father Thomas as was his father. I believe William had a brother John or James. First settled in Pa. and then moved on the Cleveland, Ohio.
Kathy Vaughan
KBOBV@aol.com
