My Grandfather Timothy Lewis JOSEPHS (preferred to be called Thomas) was born in Wales about 1870, came to Pennsylvania about 1886, graduated from Bucknell College after 1890, married Elizabeth Jane PRICE, was an Episcopal minister in PA and NJ, died in 1934. TLJ EJP had two sons, John Christian JOSEPHS born 1902 and William Whitaker JOSEPHS born 1909 (my father), both now deceased. My father remembered a stream of relatives passing through the household when he was a child, coming from Wales and going on to ??? The only ones he mentioned from adulthood were Stanley and Octavia, at Washington, D.C. in 1937. I would love to get in touch with any Welsh-American JOSEPH or JOSEPHS who might be related. My mother was a Joseph. Her Uncle said that legend had it that our ancestors were Austrian Jews who were banished to Wales and then immigrated to America. Her line goes back to at least 1720 as being in the U.S.

To Laura Petrie RE Message #5: I have no information an any family legend such as you mention, but then, as yet I have no family legends from Wales at all. Most of the references I have found thus far to JOSEPH or JOSEPHS surname are, in fact, Jewish. However, there do seem to be a fair number of JOSEPH or JOSEPHS surname references in Welsh documents (census, birth/marriage/ death certificates, etc.). Your best bet on finding more about that legend is Jim Joseph , who is Welsh and interested in the JOSEPH surname. Good luck, Gregory JOSEPHS
