I have taken this list from the Family Search/1881 Census Britian. Moss is the person of most interest, the others are also valuable.

Josephs of Baltimore, MD

I am just beginning research on my paternal grandmother's line. Her name was Marie Josephs (born as Mary Ann, but changed it later), was born in Baltimore, August 21, 1909, went to the Peabody School in Baltimore for piano, and was a registered nurse. She had a sister named Agnes and their mother passed away when my grandmother was very young. I am doing research through the state archives to learn the names of my great-grandparents, but would love to hear from anyone with a Josephs connection to Baltimore. I know my grandmother was married and divorced before she met my grandfather, but other than knowing that her first husband was a jockey, I have no other info on him. Looking for any information on Henry Foster JOSEPHS and his father David Lucas JOSEPHS.

Henry Foster JOSEPHS may have been born around 1850-60. We have him listed as a merchant in Allahabad (India), where he married Amelia Bridget Fensom (daughter of Thomas and Mary Kingham) May 3, 1880. Their daughters were Elsie Eileen Josephs (1884-1959, married Catt), Ella Lilian JOSEPHS (married Ryles), Ivy Alfreda (died at 18 mos.), and Ivy Foster Josephs (married Ripley-Duggan). Other residences may have been in West Bengal and Karachi.

David Lucas JOSEPHS was probably born around 1824-34.

The Catt and Ripley-Duggan lines are looking for this information, we don't know if Ella had any children.

JOSEPHS - South Africa and Australia

Looking for JOSEPHS family (originally YUBLOSKY, YABLOFSKY or JABLOWSKI).

The family was from Ciechanow, Poland and possibly Grodno, Belarus. There are apparently branches of the family in South Africa and Australia. Can anyone help me?

Who was Henry Joseph's parents? Was he part of the same Joseph group who came to America that I am searching for? Who are his parents and grandparents. I have an Edward Ezekial Joseph b. 1844, maybe a brother? Edward married Mary Louis Thomas b. 1844. They also died in Utah. Maybe we have some connection if we can search it out further. I have a gggrandfather Henry Joseph, born Feb 1849, Rhandir, Lianelli, Wales who married Ann Thomas. Ann died Adamsville, Beaver Co, Utah.

Welsh JOSEPHS Family Legend

To Laura Petrie RE Message #5: I have no information an any family legend such as you mention, but then, as yet I have no family legends from Wales at all. Most of the references I have found thus far to JOSEPH or JOSEPHS surname are, in fact, Jewish. However, there do seem to be a fair number of JOSEPH or JOSEPHS surname references in Welsh documents (census, birth/marriage/ death certificates, etc.). Your best bet on finding more about that legend is Jim Joseph , who is Welsh and interested in the JOSEPH surname. Good luck, Gregory Josephs.

My mother was a Joseph. Her Uncle said that legend had it that our ancestors were Austrian Jews who were banished to Wales and then immigrated to America. Her line goes back to at least 1720 as being in the U.S.

My Grandfather Timothy Lewis JOSEPHS (preferred to be called Thomas) was born in Wales about 1870, came to Pennsylvania about 1886, graduated from Bucknell College after 1890, married Elizabeth Jane PRICE, was an Episcopal minister in PA and NJ, died in 1934. TLJ EJP had two sons, John Christian JOSEPHS born 1902 and William Whitaker JOSEPHS born 1909 (my father), both now deceased. My father remembered a stream of relatives passing through the household when he was a child, coming from Wales and going on to ??? The only ones he mentioned from adulthood were Stanley and Octavia, at Washington, D.C. in 1937. I would love to get in touch with any Welsh-American JOSEPH or JOSEPHS who might be related.
