Bellemare, 84, a resident of the Brookdale
Senior Living Center, Baldwin Road, died peacefully at home in the company of her husband Raymond and her daughter and son-in-law Linda and James
Baker on
Saturday, July 4, 2009 following a period of declining health.
A native of
Turners Falls,
MA, she was born on February 22, 1925 at the former Farren Memorial Hospital in the
Montague City section, a daughter to Samuel and Gladys (
Bennett) LaChapelle. Eileen attended
Montague Public Schools and graduated from
Turners Falls High School in the Class of 1943.
Upon her graduation from high school, she accepted a position with the former Wirthmore Grain Company in
Greenfield,
MA as a secretary/receptionist. Later, Eileen accepted a position with the Town of
Montague, serving in as a secretary/clerk for the Town Accountant for twenty years, retiring in February of 1987.
She married her husband of nearly 61 years, Raymond G. Bellemare on October 16, 1948 in the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church in
Turners Falls. They were residents of the Town of
Montague for many years, residing in the
Montague City, later moving to 44 Mary
Potter Lane in
Greenfield,
MA before moving to
Michigan to be closer to their daughter due to failing health.
Eileen was a former president of the Catholic Women's
Council of St. Mary's Church, were she was an active communicant. She was also a member of the former
Montague City P.T.A. and of the
Turners Falls Junior Women's Club.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband and sports, in particular golf.
She leaves her husband Raymond G. Bellemare of Holly, MI as well as her daughter Linda
Baker of
Fenton, MI and her husband James; sons Gary of
Athol,
MA and his wife Patricia; Paul of Tampa, FL and his wife Karen.
Additionally there are 6 loving grandchildren who will miss and cherish her, as well as several great grandchildren. Eileen leaves her loving siblings: Jean
Hoff of
Turners Falls,
MA and Mary Ellen
Collins and her husband Gerry of Casa
Grande, AZ. Additionally, she leaves several loving
nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Harold B. LaChapelle, Donald P. LaChapelle and Rita Brassor.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be observed on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Our Lady of
Peace Parish, 90 Seventh Street,
Turners Falls,
MA, with Rev. Fr. Stanley J. Aksamit,
Pastor, as the Celebrant. Inurnment with rites
of committal will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery,
Turners Falls,
MA
