Sure, but I can't tell from your posting which Edward Maher, or who your GGrandfather was, where Edward was born etc.

O.K. Well I couldn't find any direct relationships; it seems as though the Meagher's in general were concerned forthe well being of their families due to the rebellions going on in Ireland at the time.

I did find a Cornelius Meagher, however, on the 1860 Census with a Catherine. Only problem is that they only had a James and not any Edward, per se.

Thank you for your input. It helps me understand the mood at the time. Never thought of it myself. Could you tell me where the Cornelious and Catherine were found to be living in 1860?

Excuse me -- that was the 1870 Census, 17th Ward, NYC. He is 35 with his wife Catherine 32, and their son James 7; all born in Ireland.

There is also an Edward Meagher 18 living in the 20th Ward of the same City on the 1870 Census. His parents were Garret Meagher 55 and Ellen 35.

I see them on the 1880 Census of Houtzdale, Clearfield, PA with Catherine 48, Margaret 23, Cornelius 21, and Johanna 16 [but no Sarah].

The Cornelius Power listed in Titusville, Crawford, PA was in fact Cornelius Meagher ???? I see right below him a Stephen Meagher with his wife Catherine and daughter Grace L.

You know, I find the Meagher's to have have been somewhat secretive about their whereabouts in the 1850's through the 1870's. Possibly they just lied about who they really were to the Census takers.

I believe that your are correct about the secrecy thing. In the 1880 census, Catherine is marked as married, but no husband!!! I guess I must try another method, but haven't a clue how to go about it.

I will try Rev Ledouex's books again. Maybe I have missed something. Thanks for your help.

I am researching this same family for a friend. In this particular family, she descends from Cornelius and Catherine's son, Cornelius. Would love to exchange notes.

I believe I have found the family (- Cornelius Sr) in both the 1860 and 1880 census.

Cornelius Jr. resurfaces in the 1910 and 1920.

Sounds like a cousin. I have been unable to find the 1860 census. Could you share that with me? Cornelious and Catherine are my GGGrandparents. I have a file I could send you.
