Parents of Wiley Hilary Mullins b.1867, Hancock Co. TN

I am a descendant of Wiley through his daughter Agnes Mullins Bailey.
Wiley's mother was Minerva J. Mullins. Most researchers have that she was the daughter of Hiram Elbridge Mullins. And although she had several children, never married...

Others claim she was not a Mullins by birth.. But, actually a Singleton.

Although I have not seen it directly..My understanding is that Wiley's death certificate ( signed by my grandmother)states his father was John Mullins.

Does anyone have info to clarify the facts on all this ?

Was Minerva, a Mullins, or Singleton ?

Is there any info to verify if Wiley's father was John Mullins. And if so, which Mullins clan was he from ?

thanks for any help,
Ray Harris

I think Hatton is correct but im not entirely sure.) who married Virgie Roberts.

If any of these names sound familiar let me know.
Mage & Nicotye "L A N" Mullins - Pike, KY - Late 1800s and early 1900s

My great-grandmother, Dorcie Hoskinson (Short, & Spears by first marriage) recently passed and I have been trying since to track our ancestry.

Here's what I know for a fact from her:
Her parents were Charlie Short and Arizona Mullins. They lived (during her youth and early adult years) in Pike County, KY (specifically "Praise" and "Lower Elkhorn"). Family information is that Arizona's mother(given name of "Nicotye") was 100% Native American (no tribe specified) and that Arizona's mother passed away during childbirth.

Here's what I have formulated:
Arizona's parent's were Spencer "Mage" Mullins (b 1865, either VA or WV) and Nicotye (b 1875 KY). I have census records showing Mage and "L A N" with most of their children on the 1900 records. However, I also have a marriage record showing that "Spencer" and "Nicotye" married in Pike, KY in 1889 (but this is after all but 2 of their children... I don't know if that is 'normal'). I believe their children are Arizona (b 1892), George (b 1894-98), William Patrick (b 1897-1901), Mary Jane (b 1899-1903) and Leona (b 1905). The reason for the discrepancies is their age differential from the 1900 and then 1910 census. Of note, "LAN" is not listed on the 1910 census (which seems to coincide w/ her death).

I'm trying to find anything additional on Nicotye/LAN at all. I have found her NO WHERE outside of the marriage record and 1900 census. Of note, the 1900 census reflects that her parents are from VA and that she does NOT read, write, NOR SPEAK English.

I believe that my Spencer above is the son of Simpson and Mahala (Reed). I base this information on locations and timelines for both families as the 1880 census shows "Spencer" living at home and the 1900 census shows "Mage" with LAN (all listed above) living 'next door' to Simpson and some of his remaining family (similarly for 1910 census wherein one of Simpson's sons appear to have taken over as head of house).

In 1920 it looks like yet another son has taken over the Simpson Mullins homestead whereas my Mage/Simpson and youngest Leona are nowhere to be found while, apparently, Mary Jane (whom I believe married Ornico Green) is now living on that homestead with husband, child, and brothers William Patrick and George.

Anything that anyone can provide - anything at all - would be helpful. Though I am primarily focused on Nicotye at the moment, I would also love to know what happened to Leona and Mage. Thanks in advance.

i just found your post dated 2003. there is a silas mullins on the 1850 hardin county, tn US census. it says he was born in 1815 in NC. I have been trying to find more info on him for several years. I have recently been trying to figure out the nancy rosetta mullins riddle for a few weeks. I have bits and pieces of clues, but it is getting frustrating to say the least. Some of my Mullins clan moved to texas and arkansas in the early 1900's and earlier, I have old photos that have notations on the back that say things like, 'Uncle Vester in texas' or a cut out picture that says 'Uncle Charlie" standing in front of a 1940's type car...tantalizing, but so far, dead-ends.
if you get this message, we can compare notes, if you like, to see if we can figure it out.
Ray,
It's highly unlikely your John Mullins was the same one who was married to Mahala Collins Mullins. According to comntemporary news accounts, he died a couple of years before Mahala (ca 1896), and was buried near their cabin on Newmans Ridge. It's possible that your line might descend fro Hiram Mullins' line, which came out of the Hancock/Claiborne Co area, but as far as I'm able to determine, have no known links to the ones on Newmans Ridge. Have you been in touch with Tita Tucker?
Kevin

He died 17-6-1926 and is buried in Killarney(Qld)Cemetery in a double plot with one side empty. My mother said that after he died her uncle Ned took her Grandmother to live with him in, she thought Cairns?? I haven't tried really hard to find her resting place but will get to it soon.

I am searching for a death date for Robert G. Mullins and his wife Margaret. Robert's parents were O.H.P. Mullins and Sarah M. E. Baker.

Robert was born about 1861 in Tennessee and has been found in all available U.S. census records from 1870 through 1930 in Maury Co., TN.

Robert and his wife were the parents of three children: Robert G. Mullins, Jr. (1886 - 1944); Benjamin C. Mullins (1887 - 1960); and Joe Burrow Mullins (1888 - 1975).

His parents and his children are all buried in Santa Fe Cemetery in Maury Co., TN - but I have not found a listing for Robert and his wife. Also on a recent trip to the Santa Fe Cemetery, I did not find a tombstone for them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for info on descendants of Lora Maude Mullins, known as Maude, if she has any. Daughter of William H. Mullins and Ella Ann Crane. She was married to Thomas Doyle Everson,1913-1918, no children. After his death, she married Charles/Charley R. Reese, widower, in 1921. She died in 1966 in Harrison, WV. Thomas Everson was my great grandfather. I have not been able to find out whether or not she had any children... have not found any.

We may not be looking for the same families OR Sam Blackerby's father might be a brother to Lucinda B Mullins - I don't know if Lucinda had siblings or her birthdate, just that she and Albert G Mullins, her husband, were born in VA. Albert came to Ky when his family moved from King and Queen County or perhaps Middlesex Co, VA. Albert G's younger siblings born after l8l5 were born in Lincoln Co, KY (the part which is now Garrard Co, Ky).

There were many children, grandchildren, and of course, greats born to the descendants of Thomas and Lucy Jesse Mullins. Did any of them leave central Ky and move to MO? Probably in the grandchildren and great grandchildren levels, but I don't know who they were. The name Blackerby might be connected since this small group of families intermarried, and indeed Albert G. Mullins, oldest known son of Thomas and Lucy J. Mullins did marry Lucinda Blackerby in 1828 in Lincoln Co. KY (last known signature of Thomas as father - he is absent from the family and Lucy is head of family in the 1830 census. Lucinda Blackerby Mullins' father was Thaddeus Blackerby. The 1880 census says both her parents were born in VA. If you find that Albert G. was a minister, I have researched it throughout central KY, and I have found this NOT to be true. Census-listed children of Albert G and Lucinda B Mullins are l) Mary (daughter or daughter in law?) 2) Sherman, 3) Lena Waters (marries a Bryant), 4) Cora (married Henry Kays, 5) Horace, 6) John (married Liza Kays) -- Central Ky relatives believe #3-6 were probably grandchildren, but we are unsure.
