The U.S. government has all sorts of lists of people who were or who were related to Cherokees (and of course, other Indian tribes). I understand that there are some census-type lists available. There are also lists of those who applied for pensions (or other cash rewards) based on Cherokee relations. This information came from reading Native
Peoples Magazine, which I subscribe to. I can't remember any of the details but there must be some place where we can find out more information.
I think that the best thing to do is to find out some names (i.e., what
Ogletree married what Indian person). With that information I think that we could probably move forward. I don't have any names other than my GGG Grandfather (
Absalom b. 1778 not 1775 as I indicated in an earlier post). Dan
Ogletree has done some research into the Ogletree's of
Tennessee and some of those married into the Cherokees.
