Henry Patton

If anyone out there has specific and detailed information out of Dr David Agricola's latest edition of the Patton Compendium, specifically the sections designated for James Patton & Florence Graham, I could use some assistance on a specific matter.

I need to know the specific reference material on Henry Patton, who is reportedly the father of this James Patton, (c 1752- c 1817). I'm looking for deeds, and any other actual documents which would prove the connections proposed.

I notice on a regular basis, many conflicting stories as to who James' father is proposed to be, and I have a tendency to follow the documentation of Dr Agricola, as he nearly had made a professional career out of his research on the Pattons.

I do not believe the widely proposed John Patton & Agness Snodgrass/Snodgrad (different spelling in different trees) to be true. This information has no backing, and actually leads into another branch of the Patton family, who would be 1st or 2nd cousins.

Since Dr Agricola's death, I have not been able to locate one of his books for purchase, and had been putting off buying one until the next edition was ready for printing. This unfortunately did not ever happen.
I had supplied him just before he passed on, with the linage after Littleton Patton (son of Granville) he was looking for, in case anyone wants it, you can find it on my tree.

Please help. This Henry search has been eluding me for some time, and there is no easy answer to his documentation. I'd like to know who his parents are, where he was from if he indeed came over from Ireland, when the immigration was, etc. If someone is even brave enough to loan me their Patton book, I will be happy to return it with great care.

My grandfather name was William Henry Patton, and he was from Lancshire England, and came to Canada after the 1st war, and settles in Cornwall, and Windsor Ontaio. I used to live in Huntsville Texas, and there is a James Patton there, who's ancestors were the orginial settlers of Huntsville, Texas. I was also told that he is also related to Sam Houston, but the source not reliable. I am also looking for information on any Pattons, as I have been told I am related to General George S. Patton, but have not beable to get any information on that fact.

I have General Patton's complete family - problem 1 - his patton family goes back to his great grandfather who escaped on ship from England - he helped a man named Robert Patton who was dying (and did subsequently die) and assumed his identity. His wife asked him on his death bed - who are we? He replied "I lived a Patton, I'll die a Patton". I have other patton info see me at pattonsr@patton-patton.com

Hi Holly. I thought I'd look at my Patton Compendium, but the sections I have 19-29, 34,37-8,42-43, don't have James & Florence or John and Agness listed. I tried. Also, Dr Agricola was not infallible. He sometimes believed information to be true because it fit an area or timeframe, without any supporting documentation. Hopefully, it wasn't too often.

Of course...it all depends on what edition of the Compendium you have. Dr Agricola certainly was able to revise as he went along, whether those revisions were correct or not, he seems to have been able to provide a massive amount of detailed information in the few pages of documentation I was able to obtain directly from him before he passed on.
During our communication, I was able to add a few more missing generations to him, but unfortunately, this edition never made it to print.

I do have specific reasons for agreeing to the information I received from Dr Agricola, due to some of our own researching together in the last few months of his study, and will be happy to share any of it if needed.

Census reports can be difficult to transcribe, family stories can be hard to interpret due to forgotten dates and nicknames - I've come across a lot of roadblocks, but damn, if they aren't interesting ones!

Per usual, I appreciate any and all information, as I'll do my own fair amount of work on any of my findings as well as other's suggestions.

Of course, if anyone is ever curious about anything I come across or present as factual, please inquire away! I rather enjoy the task of researching, so please put me to task anytime you like.

Nothing bad can ever come from asking, I say!

Hi Holly. I love looking up information for anybody (lately when I can find the time)too, and have helped many a stranger. It's taken me years to get past many roadblocks in my own lines, and some I still haven't. Dr Agricola did all the Patton's a great service by publishing all the documentation that he did. I doubt there's any compilation around that would compare. Like you, for agreeing, I had a reason for disagreeing, and it's the reason I have the revised portions of his book. He changed some long-standing assumptions about a particular line based on what I sent him. He was reluctant to do so, but when I sent him the "smoking gun" he acquiesced. These documents were readily available to anyone who took a good look. It seems before me no one had. Perhaps no one previously had the interest my sister and I did since it was our line. I wonder who is in possession of all of his material and if it (the new) will ever be published?

I don't know, but I'm willing to stick my neck out there if everyone wants me to, and find out!!
I'd love to see what you have on your line, even if it doesn't apply directly to mine, because I'm just that much of a nerd...

I remembered that Dr Agricola lived just outside Cleveland. I just looked on zabasearch, and it's Lakewood, OH. Maybe a letter to the family inquiring? My line is Andrew Patton of Orange County, NC & Margaret McAllister. (I found where his son's Robert and Thomas really went.) Andrew is alleged to be the son of Robert Patton of Chester (? memory is lapsing right now) County, PA.

How good are you on Robert m.Jane? and had son John Dorrington Patton Sr? I have a lot on Dorn's family but am a little so-so on Robert and above. Agricola gave the parents of George Washington Patton b.1809 Franklin Co, TN but I have a printed book (whoopee!) that says he is first born of John m.Elizabeth Beene. Like to share.
