I, too, am searching for a James Roberts, born sometime in the 1700s. He is the Father of my Stephen James Roberts who was born in SC (County unknown) in 1812 and died in Jackson/Franklin Co., GA in 1902.

Stephen James' wife was Melissa Virginia "Jane" Langston. Their children were: Drury H., Plesant James "PJ", William Caloway, Mary Emeline "Emma", Richard/Robert Crate/Craton "RC", Mattie Lee, and I believe a "JB" also.

I don't know anything about Stephen James' siblings or Mother. All I have is his father's name "James" who lived for a time in SC because Stephen was born there. I don't know where my Roberts line came from before SC. Do any of the above ring bells?

James Monroe ROBERTS & ancestors in SC in 1730s

I may be of a different line, but my grandpa James Monroe Roberts' ancestors came to the U.S. with General Oglethorpe. (he established the 13th colony...S.C. in the 1730s. After that, he established Savannah, Ga.)

I don't know if they came with him from England, or joined him from other colonies. It seems the Roberts road faded with the past.

My folks came thru SC & Ga to AL, apparently some of them continued farther west.

Hello, I am searching for my Great-Grandfather Benjamin Roberts. He was in Newton County, MS at the time my grandmother Elmira Jane Roberts was born in abt 1846 I have been told that he married Martha Warren and also have seen his name in the 1850 census with wife Frances Searcy. I can not find anything on him. I really think there was more than one Benjamin Roberts and we are getting them mixed up into one big family. Do you have any of these names in your Roberts?? Thanks, Billie Sue

Oh my gosh, Annette!!

A very long distant cousin (my ggg/gf's brother's descendent) told me by phone last summer that our first Roberts ancestor to come to America, came with James Oglethorpe on the ship Ann or Anne in 1732/33! She said she remembered that our ancestor was something like 2nd in command under Gen. Oglethorpe. She said that she had been told that story all her life by her dad before he died!!

Is it possible there is a connection? Sure hope you are still checking this forum!!

Please view my website and see if you see any names or other data that looks familiar.
