Ada Roman Born January 27, 1927, passed away suddenly Thursday, Aug 6. Beloved wife to Jesus Roman for 55 years; mother to Carlos, Ada Jane and Marisa; mother in-law to Lucinda Roman and Henry Borja; grandma to Vanessa, Vidal, Tony, Robert and Marcus; daughter to Ana Perez; and loved by countless other family members and friends. Ada taught for over 30 years as an elementary school teacher at All Souls, Mater Dolorosa and St. Peters Elementary School. Sister of Mercy associate. A native of Puerto Rico, she came to California in 1944 to attend college at UC Berkley and San Jose State University. Ada was a devout catholic, an exceptional cook, and always welcomed everyone to her home with open arms and made sure no one left her home hungry. She will be missed by all. We will be celebrating her life at her Funeral Services on Monday, August 10, 2009 at Garden Chapel, 885 El Camino Real, So. I am researching the family of Joseph & Josephine Godek who immigrated from Austria and lived in Nanticoke, Pa. in the 1890's and then moved to Farrel, Pa. My grandmother Sophia was born in 1894 in Nanticoke. Is it possible Tillie could be related to Joseph?

My ancestors were also Jan Derks Roman (born: 1781), who was married to Ida Fokkes Kloosterhuis (born: 1764: they married in 1803). Jan Roman (born 1829) was the father of at least two daughters: Attje (born in Midwolda 15-05-1880) and Derktje Roman (Born in Midwolda) 13-3-1860. She married 16-6-1886 with Jan Kuiper, from which Antje Kuiper was born on 4-7-1890. Antje Kuiper gave birth to Derktje Jantiene Tuin on 8-4-1914. She is my mother, and the name still goes on: my daughter is called Maria Derkje Jantine Bosch, born 30-8-1981 in Koekange, Drenthe (parents: Albert Bosch and Antje Maria Vroom). My sister (Maria Antje Vroom) and me have a fairly complete ancestral tree; but we also got stuck on Jan Derks Roman. My grandmother used to tell me, that this Jan Derks Roman deserted from the Napoleontic Army, by hiding himself under a bridge in Noordbroek.

P.S.: Jan Derks Roman could also have a twin brother: Jan Bartelds Roman, also born 1781.

John J. "Pop" Roman

John J. “Pop” Roman, 80, of Mountain Top, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born October 29, 1928, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Stanley and Tillie (Godek) Roman.

Mr. Roman was a member of VFW Post 7918, where he was serving as vice president and trustee. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, dart playing, family, and friends. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Roman retired in 1991 from Dana Perfume.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; and two sisters, Frances Granitzki and Lee Belles.

He is survived by two sons, John (Jake) Roman, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joe Roman, of Dorrance; two daughters, Donna Sauers and husband, Joe, of Nanticoke, and Darlene Rodgers and husband, Paul, of Mountain Top; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; his companion, Clara White, of Dorrance; and five sisters, Stella Yashinski, of Northeast, Md.; Theresa Kerbaugh, Emily Waiter, Ann Zigmund and Charlotte Turowski, all of Nanticoke.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Stairville United Methodist Church, Stairville Road, Dorrance.
Arrangements are entrusted to Auer Cremation Services of Pennsylvania Inc., Harrisburg.

Helen O. Roman

Helen O. Roman, formerly of Mayfield, died Sunday at VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Joseph J. Roman Sr., who died in 1986.

Born in Simpson, daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Ignatovich Turpack, she was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Mayfield. She was a retired floorlady at Isabell Dress Factory, Mayfield, where she worked for more than 25 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy "Dottie" Rose, Oklahoma; and Geri Flynn, Jermyn; two sons, Anthony Roman, Washington; and Joseph Jr., Oklahoma; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine DiCeasare, New York; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Josette, and several brothers and sisters.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Ry- czak-Harrison Funeral Home Inc., 901 Lackawanna Ave., Mayfield, with Mass at 10 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, to be celebrated by the Rev. John Kulavich, pastor. Interment, parish cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday, 4 to 7 p.m.

Elizabeth Roman

Elizabeth "Libbe" Theresa Vabolis Roman, 91, of Clarks Summit, died Wednesday in St. Martha's Manor, Downingtown. Her husband of 49 years, the late John S. Roman, died Nov. 23, 1990.

Born July 18, 1917, in Scranton, daughter of the late Peter and Helen Zvirbils Vabolis, she had resided in Clarks Summit since 1960 and graduated from Scranton Technical High School. Before retirement, she was employed in the credit department at Sears in the Viewmont Mall in Dickson City. She was a member of St. Gregory's Roman Catholic Church, Clarks Green. Active in the community, she was a former member of the Abington Women's Club and area pinochle card clubs. She and her late husband, John, enjoyed dancing with the Abington Alamanders Square Dancing Club. A faithful woman, she was an active volunteer at St. Gabriel Retreat Center and was a member of its retreat league.

Libbe was always smiling and happy with a great sense of humor. She shared her happiness with those around her and her many friends. She was enthusiastic about the places throughout the world that she had visited with her husband. A fun person, it was a pleasure talking with her. Her smile and her laughter will be sadly missed.

Surviving are two sons, David J. Roman, West Bloomfield, Mich.; and Allen J. Roman and wife, Maureen, West Chester; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Peter, Joseph, William, Albert and Anthony Vabolis; and four sisters, Alice Van Slavich, Mary Wasko, Helen Nutt and an infant.

The funeral will be Monday with Mass at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by Monsignor John H. Louis. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m., at the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit. Hi,

My grandfather name is Antonio Roman. He died very young at the age of approximately 33 years. I know that my father had brothers he never or vaguely met, but I believe that one of them carried the name of his dad. Perhaps, there is a connection. My father was born in Yauco but I believe the Roman family is from Hacherra, Puerto Rico. Perhaps, we are related.

My grandfather was Pedro Roman Vidot (Perucho). I believe he was from Dominguito. His brother lived in Camp Alegre,I called him Tio Pepe. I know that the family is from this area, Hatillo, Dominguito, Arecibo.
I do not remeber much but I hope this helpful. I often wonder about more family member . My Grandfather def. had relationships with many woman and bared children with many.

Back in 1961-62 a man by the name of Juan Roman was living by a woman by the name of Amparo, in December of 1962 a daughter was born to them, whom they named Amparo. Her father nicknamed her puchi-cuchi. They seperated and he lived with another lady named Teresa. He had a sister named Tomasa whom had 3 children of which one was called Teresa. Since between the years of 1966-68 total communication was lost between Amparo and Juan Roman. Should the one Juan Roman from your ancestry tree be the same as this true story, PLEASE contact me at your earliest convienience.

Mi papa se llama Emilio Roman Luciano (agosto 8, 1922) del barrio Quebradas de Camuy, Vivio en Arecibo por muchos anos. y des pues se mudo para Santurce (area metro). Mi abuelo se llama Juan Roman Hernandez casado con Margarita Luciano Muniz. Dato historico averiguado por mi hermano. Llegaron por San Juan, Una familia se establecio en Ponce y mi abuelo primos y hermanos se mudaron muchos para Arecibo, hatillo, camuy... Esa area les recordaba mucho al area de las Islas canarias de donde muchos de ellos abordaron botes para su viaje al nuevo mundo... Dato casi confirmado. ( no conosco a nadie tan viejo para preguntarle.... jajajajaj. Mi nombre es Juan Emilio Roman Garcia. un placer prima.

My Great Grandfather is Lorenzo Roman from Pureto Rico (my family called that Spain) but I believe Farjardo (that’s what the records say). He was living in Brooklyn by 1906. Believe he was a Caligrapher? Married Maud D Canniff. Had a Son (my Grandfather) John (everyone seems to have called him Jack) Roman.

Dr Horace Roman, Civil War Surgeon

"Horace Roman" is just the silliest name to search. The first thousand results are "Horace, a Roman Poet"

However, I am searching for data on Dr Horace Roman (H.H.) born in 1830 in Belleville, Illinois. Apparently his father was named William and was from Kentucky. His brother was Richard.

Dr Roman was a surgeon in the Civil War.
He married Deborah Butler, granddaughter of Samuel Butler through Elizabeth Ogle Butler. His brother Richard married Isabella Ogle, another granddaughter of Samuel Ogle through his son Joseph.

after the war apparently Horace and Deborah moved to Sangamon County, where he died about 1870.

Louisa seems to be a prevalent name in the Roman family

Angelo “Butch” Roman, 55, of Olyphant, died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Angelo and Carmella DeMatteo Roman, he attended Olyphant schools and was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Throop. He resided most of his life in Olyphant and was a member of the Mid-Valley Pool League. Until his illness, he was a manager at Destiny’s Diner, Mayfield.

Butch enjoyed riding his motorcycle, quad-riding with his nephews, watching old western movies and wrestling. He was a collector of Elvis memorabilia and a well-known pool player that many people called “the Pennsylvania Kid.” He loved spending time with his family. During the last few months, his niece, Anne, provided love and support as his caregiver. He was a loving and caring brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

Surviving are three sisters, Ann Roman, with whom he resided, Olyphant; Donna Selvenis, Clarks Summit; and Elaine Pinto, Olyphant; and three brothers, Louis, Archbald; Frank, Blakely; and Joseph, Olyphant; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday from the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St., Peckville, with Mass at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 520 Sanderson Ave., Throop. Interment, St. John’s Cemetery, Throop.

Just getting started on search for Roberta Romans birth date unknown but she gave her name as Roberta Chapman on a wedding license dated 14 December 1939, residence given as Shidler, Oklahoma. Wedding was in Wichita, Kansas at a Probate Judge's office. Groom was Jean Newton Stidham born 1908 in Eldon, Missouri, his residence given as Oklahoma City.

Seeking to find if Roberta Roman Chapman Stidham was married before marriage to Stidham to a fellow named: Chapman. Possibly, she was a step-child using her stepfather's name?

Seeking ROMAN family in Okla CIty area pre World War II or CHAPMAN family in same location. Need a lookup in Osage County, Okla. for possible earlier marriage?

Have three little girls born in Chicago, Indiana to Roberta, maiden name ROMANS, Stidham and her husband Jean N. Stidham. Seeking any other children born pre 1940 or after 1945.

A witness to the wedding was a Jerry Romans, unknown if male or female.

Jean N. Stidham and Roberta Romans/Chapman? Stidham were divorced and the three little girls were raised in a childrens home until he remarried and could raise them.

I have been attempting to locate my great-Aunt Ruth Thornton, who is buried in Kansas City, Missouri, possibly in the Mount Moriah Cemetery. Her last name at the time of her death, I am told, was ROMAN. I do not know her husbands first name or when she died.
Aunt Ruth was born in Iowa in 1898. She married a Woods(first name unknown) probably ca 1916/1917, and had one daughter whose name was Reola(sp?). I am told that Reola was born 15 May 1917 and died 10 June 1986 in Kansas City.
I would very much like to find my Aunt Ruth, so if there is anyone out there who knows of her, please contact me.
