Supposedly of Scandinavian origin. Means rough, rocky, forested. First Skaggs/Scaggs probably came here from England. I cannot find any Skaggs/Scaggs in present day Ireland or Scotland. However, some Skaggs supposedly came to America from Ireland. There are many Skeggs in present day London, England. There are some Scaggs in Bath, England. There are several Scaggs families in the Christiansburg/Blacksburg area of Virginia. My family came to what is now Logan Co., WV from there in the 1850's.
