Just logged on here for the first time and saw inquiries regarding my grandfather, Cleland D. Stoddard, and found this board. I had worked on the family tree previously but hit dead ends and set it aside, am now working on it again. I saw some pretty great pictures posted by someone?? I have a handful of old Stoddard pictures. I can be contacted via drake@blackduck.net

I am searching for the parents of Olive Stoddard b. 27 Oct 1744 in Lebanon, Vermont and died/buried in North Hero, Vermont.

Olive married Joseph Hazen on 20 Aug 1763 in Lebanon, Vermont, and had the following children (I have found 10, but understand there were only 9?):
Rebecca b. 1763
Andrew b. 1766
Solomon b. 1768
Daniel b. 1771
Anna b. 1773
Joseph b. 1775
Olive b. 1778
Thomas b. 1782
Polly b. 1784
Uriah Henry b. 1786

I have seen so many different parentages assigned to Olive on the internet, and was hoping someone might have a more definitive answer. Parents that I have seen attributed to Olive, wife of Joseph Hazen Jr, include:
-Solomon Stoddard md. Hannah Stodder
-David Stoddard md. Elizabeth Reed
-Gideon Stoddard md. Olive Curtis

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Stephanie

Re: Info re: Elisha STODDARD bn 1757 CT > NY, USA

Am researching Stoddard for a friend and am stumped at Moses Stoddard b. May 1715 Norwich, CT who married Mary somebody and had Thomas Stoddard who married Abigail Culver. I am interested in the information in your post because I have been unable to find any documented evidence of the maiden name of Mary who married Moses Stoddard. I've seen it as Mallison too but In the Barbour Collection of Vital Records for Groton where the children are born, there is no record for the marriage of Moses to Mary. Indeed the records for Mary Mallison who seems to be a likely candidate for Mary gets muddled when you look at the records for Mary Mallison in the Barbour Collection. There are 4 entries for Mary Mallison born to Joseph & Elizabeth (Stoddard) Mallison. Mary b. Jan 28, 1719, Mary b. Jan 28, 1721 (possibly a duplicate from another source with the year transcribed wrong) the two more entries for Mary b. Oct. 4, 1725 (these are obviously also duplicates of each other). Usually when the same name is used for a child a few years later, it means that the first one died young. If this is the case, the the surviving Mary Mallison b. Oct. 4 1925 is awfully young to have been married in time to have the children listed to this couple. If you have any documented evidence or whatever that would clear this up, I hope you're willing to share. This is for a lineage society application and they are sticklers for evidence and linkage from one generation to the next. This generation is weak right now, so hoping for some help figuring this out. The bit about Elisha going to Jeremiah Gifford's is of great interest. I can prove the link from him back to Moses Stoddard's parents. So if there's evidence thatElisha did go to live with his cousin, that might help me support the weak generation since that would difinitively link the Moses Stoddard b. 1715 as the same Moses who with Mary had the next generation including Elisha. Gosh I hope you're still active. I see your post is several years old.

Thomas Stoddard ca 1850 Massachusetts Illinois California

Thomas Stoddard ca. 1750 is my mystery person of the day. It appears that Thomas married Alice Richardson and lived in Massachusetts, and raised 6 children, namely Richard ca. 1800, Thomas Aster ca. 1803, Hannah Harris ca. 1805, Melviro Bentley ca. 1806, Rosina ca. 1809 and Edwin ca 1811.

My first problem is in locating the parents of this Thomas Stoddard. Charlie Stoddard of New Hampshire, a well known genealogist, names Thomas as the grandson of Daniel Stoddard but does not provide his father's name.

Thomas Aster Stoddard, son of Thomas seems to be in Lafayette, Ogle County, Illinois in the 1850 US Census with the following children: Willah b. 1827 and Edwin R. b. 1829 in Pa., Nancy b. 1835, Myra (Mira) b. 1837 and Abigail b. 1839 all in Oh.; Rosena b. 1841, John R. b. 1843, Mary J. b. 1845 and Hannah R. b. 1848 all in Illinois. His wife appears as Jane, b. 1808, in New York. Searching backward in census records, I do find Thomas Bethany, Wayne, Pennsylvania in 1830 and Washington, Ogle, Illinois in 1840. Which all seems to fit. I also find a land warrant purchasing land in Ogle County, Illinois, near Dixon on 1 April, 1845.

The next time I find Thomas A b. 1803 is in the 1870 Census in Shasta, California. In that same year, I find John Stodard, b. abt 1844 in Illinois working as a telegraph operator in Trinity Center, Trinity County, California. I believe this to be the same John R. Stoddard who becomes a rancher in Trinity County for the next 50 years and after whom Stoddard Lake is named.

If you have ties to this family or can provide any more information to help me a) find the true father of Thomas b. 1750 in Massachusetts and b) cement my speculations about his descendants.

Martin
www.msohlberg.com/genealogy

I just saw your posting about Minnie, the latest update that we have been given is that half of this bridge will be dedicated as Mignon "Minnie" Stoddard Lilley Memorial Bridge, the other side is being dedicated to another pioneering woman. As of now we have been told that the ceremony will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009. No time or the exact location has been set. I will update as soon as I have more. I have a feeling you might have an inside track on this info. and probably know more than I given your employer's involvement with this project.

William W. Stoddard, 1859 - 1924, Hammond, Clatsop, Oregon

Looking for the family of Wiiliam W. Stoddard. His parents were Asa & Marion Stoddard. Asa was born in New Hampshire and Marion (Marian) was born in Oregon. The census indicates that she was 2nd Indian (1/2?) and lists her son as 1/2 Indian. Believe this was a second marriage for Asa.

William married Clara May Gore about 1885?. I haven't been able to find a marriage record yet. They may have married in Lewis Co. Washington as her parents were living in Salkum. Clara died in 1898 in Clatslop Co., Oregon.

There were several children, Maud Edna Stoddard, born abt 1887 in Washington (according to census). She married twice (Norton & Matthews) but did not have chldren. Her last husband was a lawyer in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon. Maud is found living with her Aunt Catherine Gore Lanceaux in 1900 in Salkum.

Believe there was another girl (maybe more) named Ethel A. Stoddard and possible one named Mary or Winifred. There are children listed at the US Indian School in Salem, Oregon with these names. Mary & Winifred are middle names of Clara's sisters'.

A son, Harry Edwin Stoddard born around 1890 in Oregon. He married a Aileen, (Lileen?, she is of Swedish & Norwegian immigrants.
They have two sons, William Hal Stoddard and Harry Edwin Stoddard. Believe they settled in Portland, Oregon, one of those boys died in 2001 so there should be family around.

The last child is Hollis (Hallie) W. Stoddard. He was only a couple of months old when his mother passed away. I believe this boy passed away around 1918, but could be wrong.

The children are never listed with their father on a census. It appears if they weren't living at an Indian School they were with maternal relatives in Washington.

There are two children at one point, Hallie and Mary living with their maternal grandparents Hollis & Mary Gore in Lewis County, Washington.

I don't have any married surnames for the girls other than Maud.

Clara Gore Stoddard was related to me.
If any of this sound familiar to anyone, please write.
Thank you,
Marilyn Wright Powers

I came across this thread while looking for a Jerome B Stoddard. According to the census papers I have found his date of birth was listed as around 1815 though. I have hit a dead end since then. Would there be a chance that my Jerome and your Jerome could be the same person? My husband's branch of the Stoddards that we know about came from Illinois and his grandparents ended up around Liberal Kansas.

I am a descendant of Helen Dunn's father Jonas Dunn specifically her brother Clarence. Helens mother Mary Graham Dunn headed for Michigan in mid to late 1880's with Jonas but he died in Ohio somewhere. Later she married William Blackmore Jr. They both died in Genesee County 1914 or so. Frank Dunn Helens brother married a Blackmore and another Blackmore married another Stoddard. So these families were intermingled in several ways. I can't find Jonas Dunns parents that is my brickwall.
Thank you for your reply! It sounds like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! I would love to see what ever you have. I do know that Ivory died in 1901 in Mi. I am a very patient person so enjoy your vacation and get back to me when you can. Ahhh Myrtle Beach, it sounds so good right now!!

Hello,
I do belive Ivory's parents were William and Lydia Bean. I am going from memory though. We are on vacation and I don't have all my Genealogy information with me.
I do have a copy of Ivory's death certificate and if by chance I have this with me in my laptop I could email you a copy.
My husband us descended from Ivory and Eunice.
A tid-bit....Did you know Helen was a young neighbor girl and William was still married to Eunice when he left NY with Helen for Michigan?
I will search what I have here and see what I brogfht with me. It has been quite a few years since I seriously searched for Ivory's parents and grandparents. The name Moody, or something like that, just popped into my head.
That may have been Lydia's parents.
I do rememeber numerous William Stoddard's, therefore couldn't put the correct one with Ivory.
Nancy
NY and Myrtle Beach, SC

Hello, I am from Northwestern Pa and am a decsentant of Guy C. (second marriage of Ivory). My father Guy Adam, born 1909 had one brother Cecil b. 1907. Guy C. never married my grdandmother. I have found out that he had a previous family of 3 children, most likley in Conn. I did find 12 cousins in Ohio two years ago and did visit with them. Guy C did marry this one!!
I would be interested to know if you can get beyond Ivory.
