Mrs. Holley; William was the son of William Stone and Sarah. He first married Elizabeth Dennett who born to him three children before her death in 1717. William would marry second Elizabeth Roberson. They had seven children
together. The last child they had together was in 1734, a
boy they named John William Stone but he was called William. He moved into the Halifax District of Bute County
North Carolina where he and his illegitimate son, William Green who was in the infant-toddler stage had moved as he followed his older brother Phillip into North Carolina. Phillip moved to the Johnston County area and his son Austin would move to Marion South Carolina years later. Anyway John William met his first wife in Bute County. He married Alice Hurst. They settled on "Fishing Creek". Alice gave birth to Mary Stone and Jonathan Stone. This was affirmed in the "will" of her brother Phillip Hurst in 1769.
Alice died right after giving birth to Jonathan who was born in 1755. Mary was born a year or two before Jonathan.
William had been made a Captain by commission of the courts
and was using his first name John instead of William. Now
he is known as Capt. John Stone who married second Pegee
(Peggy) Merritt daughter of William Merritt who in his "will" probated in 1757 stated that that John Stone was his son-in-law. John and Pegee Merritt had four more children. John B. Stone; John William Stone. Jr.; Elizabeth
Stone; and William Merritt Stone.
John William Stone, Jr. went by the name William. His wife's name is unknown but he had a son they named Lemuel Roberson Stone. He and William would move to Georgia where Lemuel married Sarah Cooper and had his family. They would stay in Georgia for twenty years before moving on to Rusk-Smith counties Texas where they died and are buried.
John B. Stone married Sarah Walker and they had ten children. One was Samuel Hatton Stone that married Priscilla Hight. They made their home in old Moore County,
North Carolina that is noe Lee County. As we go back to
William and Sarah and search his lineage this William's father was also named William. He was married three times. His first wife was Theodosia Wade. Theodosia Wade's mother
was Mary Wade. Her maiden name was Hatton; Mary Hatton-Wade.
This William Stone's father was named Thomas Stone who was the son of George William Stone and Verlinda Graves who was the first provincial governor of Maryland. George William Stone's father was John Stone born Lancashire, England.
There is plenty on this particular line of Stone's. They
range primarily from Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina,
Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Texas and
places in between. Hope this has helped to some degree.
William and Elizabeth Dennett and Roberson married and lived in Amelia County, Virginia.
I do hope you get this and if you find or need documentation of proof please feel free to contact me at my e-mail off this forum. Bill Jones
