I have a great great great grandmother Rebecca
Surry from Great Chesterford,
Essex - between
Saffron Walden and
Cambridge.
I don't have solid proof of the links but this is what I've pieced together.
One of my great great grandmothers was Jane
Danns b 1821 in Great Chesterford. I believe her father was Anthony
Danns (b 1786 Great Chesterford) and her mother Rebecca
Surry (b 1791 Great Chesterford) - they married at Great Chesterford in 1815. Rebecca had I believe three siblings:
- John
Surry b 1795 who married Ann
Hedges in
Cambridge in 1816;
- Mary
Surry b 1789 Great Chesterford
- Samuel
Surry b 1782 Great Chesterford who married a Sarah [unknown]
Samuel
Surry had three children:
- Martin
Surry b 1805; he was a
Lime Burner and so was his son Samuel
Surry b 1841 who married Louisa
Perrin in 1868 - no children. I don't know his first wife's name, but Martin appeared to have married a second time to an Ann
Sussex, b 1833 Swavesey Cambridgeshire. No other children that I can find.
- Elizabeth
Surry b 1807 Great Chesterford
- Amy
Surry b 1810 Great Chesterford
I think the parents of Rebecca, John, Mary and Samuel were Robert and Ann (maiden name unknown)
Surry.
My grandmother, who took great interest in Great Chesterford issues, as she often visited as a child and her ashes are buried there, told me that the Surry's "died in decline". They certainly did as far as Great Chesterford was concerned if Anthony
Surry moved away to
Cambridge (can't trace any decsendants from him either).
Would welcome any further information. I do need to stress the health warning on this - especially on anything pre-1800.
