Re: vaughn family

I have a letter dated Dec. 11, 1987 from a Jean P. Burkhart, in her letter it states that when Joseph Vaughn ( my gr. gr. uncle)married Nettie Vickory (2nd wife) she had a daughter named Ottie prior to the marriage. It also states that Ottie was born ca Aug. 1889 in Ky and Ottie married Burton Henderson (s/o Charles T. HEnderson) 4 Dec. 1909 bk 14 pg 383 in Fountain Co., Ind. It also states that Ottie married a 2nd time to N.B. Delaney 20 Dec. 1912 in Fountain Co., Ind bk 14 pg 391. She married as Ottie Vaughn and listed her father as Joseph. This is not my direct line so I didn't research this any further. My cousin was in touch with Jean Burkhart but hasn't heard from her in about 10 years. Her mother was left in an orphanage by her father after the death of their mother so she did A LOT of searching for her missing aunts & uncles. Hope this helps at least a little!

Philander was my GG also. Harry was my grandfather. George died in 1854 and is buried along with Polly in Wyoming, Iowa. Other family buried in the Wyoming, Iowa cemetery, Philander, Lydia, Randolph(1854-1929), Flora (Babcock) . W.H.Vaughn 1832-1876 is also buried there. He was listed in the 1850 Federal Census living with George and family, so I assume he is their son.
Any further info I would appreciate.

Re: Nancy Vaughn

Hello, I found your inquiry on Nancy Vaughn on the VAughn Family message board. I am also a descendant of this marriage of Obediah Vaughn and Nancy (Vaughn?)who lived in Miller County, MO. I have he was born 1790, Bedford, VA and died about 1843 in Miller County, MO. Same for Nancy, except she died abt 1846 in Miller Co., MO. I have not found any cemetery records or obits on them however. They were supposedly married about 1816 in Kentucky, but they do not show up on the Barren County or surrounding counties in KY for that time period. My ancestor is their daughter, REbecca Vaughn, born 1822 in Missouri. Obediah Vaughn's father is also named Obediah Vaughn, born 1768 in Bedford , VA married to Elizabeth Edwards Nov 6 1788. If you are still interested, can you email me with any other info you may have on this family. Thanks so much. CArole VAn Ness

This is an old post so I don't know if you all are still actively watching it. I don't believe the James Vaughn that was originally queried is the same as the one mentioned by Evelyn in her response. I believe Evelyn's James Vaughn is James Walter Vaughn whose brother Lee Alvin Vaughn was my grandfather. My father James Alfred Vaughan (spelling was changed by Lee Alvin Vaughn to Lee Alvin Vaughan in the 1920's) was named after James Walter Vaughn. James Walter Vaughn was married in 1917 to Mary Amanda Jane Wells. She passed away in 1939. James Walter Vaughn then remarried to Violet Melba McCoy. Both James Walter and Violet Melba died in 1964.

I too am looking for information on the parents of Ora Palmer. I am wondering if you have had any success since this posting.

Any information you have is appreciated. I will answer any questions that I can as well.

I am trying to find the parents of James William Vaughn b. 1791 Georgia and died after 1870 Wayne Co. Kentucky, he had married Elizabeth Troxel and I believe had a brother John Vaughn who married Polly Lewis of Wayne Co. Kentucky.

My name is Michelle Vaughn. Only child of Von Dale Vaughn. He too an only child of Finis Ewin Vaughn and Pearl "Butler" Vaughn. My dad and I asked my grandma once why they double named him Von Vaughn but she couldn't remember.

Our Vaughn's side has been a challenge tracking down. The info I have to go on is a copied panoramic photo of the Vaughn's back in ??? Starting with Theopolis Vaughn and wife Hennice ? with 5 sons.

One of them M.H. (Maud Houston or M. Huse) Vaughn is my great grandfather. He was married to Effie Haddox. They had 14 children and 4 of them died at early ages. So that left my grandpa 1 of 10 and the 3rd oldest of them all, born in 1907.

The only other info to go on is that they seem to be resided mostly in Texas and New Mexico. I am at a loss with dates on anyone before 1900's.

It would be great to make a connection with some relatives with more info for me....mavhere4u@yahoo.com

Hi Kaye,

I spoke with my mother after my last message to you. She remembers her uncle, Chris, as being tall. He married a woman named Mary and had a son named Tom. She thought Mary was short and dark haired. Chris' nickname was Chig. She thinks he only had one arm and had been in jail.

My grandfather, Thomas, was Chris' brother.

We are all from Middlesboro. My mother's family in Middlesboro are all deceased. Some of their names are Jewell Vaughn-Moyers, Pearl Vaughn-Jeffers-Cooper, Bessie Vaughn-Miracle, Mary Vaughn-Maiden, Sylvia Vaughn-Patterson (Harrogate TN).

Sharon

Hi Chris,

I am your second cousin Vickie Lynn Vaughn Davis. I am the daughter of Venus and Barbara Sherfield. I know your grandfather (not sure whose child you are) Tom. I hung around with my cousins (your parent and their siblings) and also with Aunt Sarah Miracles kids when everyone lived in Farmington Michigan. You can email me at vlvdavis@aol.com if you want to chat. Also, I was recently going through some pictures and found one of Mary. I believe she was holding a baby which could have been Tom or Venus. I never knew of Thelma. For some reason I only thought my father had two siblings.
