Minerva Frances Owen married Winfield Scott Woolfolk in Boone Co. Missouri. He was the son of Marcellus C. Woolfolk and Adeline Heflin.
Winfield and Minerva had 10 children, the two eldest did not survive childhood. The eldest to survive was my grandfather, Wiseman Hayden Woolfolk. If this is the Minerva you seek I have some information about her. Please feel free to contact me.

No one knows for sure but the best evidence indicates that our Woolfolk ancestors came from England. They might have been sheep herders or otherwise associated with the wool business or the name may just have evolved from something else. Bob Riley's History of the Woolfolk Family has a lot of good information on the origin of the family.

Is there anyone doing research on the Woolfolk family from Caroline County, Va.?

Capt. Pichegru Woolfolk (1830-1870) fought in many Civil War battles and is buried at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond. He lies without a headstone. A group of individuals are working toward obtaining a military stone for his grave.

My hope is to try and find any Woolfolks that are related to Pichegru and his family. Thank you for any help.

Sandy

Thank you.
Here is what I have on the elder Robert Woolfok and wife Frances.
It is my personal belief, unproven, that Frances LEE was daughter of RICHARD LEE and LETITIA CORBIN.
Based on the following source which does show a daughter named Frances for this couple.
"Records of Ante-Bellum Southern Plantations from the Revolutionary through the Civil War . Part 2: Northern Neck of Virginia and also Maryland" by Kenneth M Stampp

If correct, France Lee would be the fourth child and her siblings would be:
John Lee, died young
Richard Lee m. Martha Silk
Philip Lee m Sarah Brooke
Thomas Lee m. Hannah Ludwell
Henry Lee m. Mary Bland
Ann Lee m. William Fitzhugh

Letitia Corbins parents were Henry and Alice Eltonhead Corbin.
...................
Court Order Book on 9 March 1732/33 in which Thomas Madison, Robert Woolfolk, Robert Farris and Thomas White were ordered to appraise the estate of Benjamin Row.
Caroline Co Court, which served a wide area of VA at that time.
"He was elected as Justice on Jun 13 1735 in Caroline Co., VA. He died on Apr 13 1744 in Shepherd's Hill, Caroline Co., VA."

I am sorry for I wrote the wrong birth year for Robert "Robin" Woolfolk, not 1721 but cir 1725 or 6. He was not the oldest son of Robert Woolfolk, Richard was.

Robert I, lived in the area of King and Queen Co., that fell in Caroline when it was formed. Several fires have destroyed all the colonial King & Queen records. He was a landowner before Nov 1719 when this will was written:

Virginia Colonial Absracts - Fleet
Essex Co., Va. Will Book 3, p 144
Will of Thos. Petitt of South Farnham Parish - dated 18 Nov. 1719
Or Unto my son Thomas all that tract and parcell of land situate in King and Queen County beginning on the river in Collo. Peter Beverley's line ... to Robt Woolfolks corner tree ... line of Robert Powell ... containing 500 acres.

Curiously there is another deed with the Pettits:
Caroline County Order Book - 12 Mar 1741/2 - A deed from Thomas Pettit to Robert Woolfolk was proved by John Baylor, Gent. Thomas Jones and Richard Woolfolk, witnesses thereto.

Executive Journals of the Council of Colonial Va. Vol. IV (Oct 25, 1721 - Oct 28, 1739)
23rd of April 1728
The Governor & the advice of the Council this day nominated & appointed the Justices for the new erected Counties of Caroline and Goochland Viz.:
For the County of Caroline:
John Lomax, William Woodford, Thomas Carr, John Martin, Richard Buckner, Thomas Catlett, Francis Thornton, John Battaile of the Quorum, John Sutton, Ambrose Maddison, John Catlet, John Taliaferro, Francis Conway, Lunsford Lomax, Robert Woodfolk, Walter Chiles, Thomas Buckner, & Richard Maulden,
Gen. William Woodford, Gent. Is appointed Sheriff of this County for the ensuing year.

Death of Robert Woolfolk I.
13 Apr 1744 Caroline Co. The last will & testament of Robert Woolfolk was presented by John Bay [Baylor] Gent. and Richard Woolfolk, executors therein named and Frances Woolfolk, executrix and proved by Samuel Coleman, Thomas White & James Riddle, witnesses thereto. The executors and executrix with Richd. Taliaferro and Benja Robinson their securities ack their bond.

12 Apr 1745 - The inventory & appraisement of the estate of Robert Woolfolk returned.

The last record for the widow Frances was in 1760, thus she died after that date. (Caroline Co. Order Books)

James Riddle, as mentioned above, had land that adjoined Robert & Frances Woolfolk as per road reports from the Caroline Order books.

Hi - I know the Grants list 1791 for a death of Robert "Robin" Woolfolk.

HOWEVER, on the 1794 Caroline Land Tax rolls he transfers his land, 375 acres, to his son John George Woolfolk. Robin does not appear in the tax rolls again after 1800, however his son John George pays for an extra male.

A letter remaining with the descendants of Jourdan Woolfolk - dated Mar 1816 mentions Robin - so he was still alive and according to his birth year of cir 1721, he was 91.

Anne George Woolfolk died in 1794.

I have this on Mary Woolfolk w/o Thomas Coleman.

She was the oldest daughter of Robin & Anne George Woolfolk. From the Coleman-Wortham bible Thomas Coleman was born 17 Jan 1745, son of Daniel Coleman.

Mary Woolfolk Coleman was born about 1758. They owned 534 acres on the Pamunkey River. They married 26 Mar 1776, again from the Bible.
children:
(1)Samuel Coleman b 31 Dec 1778
(2)Robert Coleman b 17 Jun 1780 m Matilda Minor - lived at "Chantilly", Hanover Co., Virginia
(3)Anne George Coleman b 9 Dec 1783 m Robert Scott, Jr.
(4)Mary Coleman b 11 Jan 1786 m cousin Richard Wortham Chandler
(5)John Woolfolk Coleman b 26 May 1788 m cousin Anne Coleman Woolfolk

I will be glad to share what I have on the descendants of Mary Woolfolk Coleman if you think it might be helpfull

Hi Cousin,

Well, I'll see if I have more on Mary's siblings. Right now I have info on Mary who married Thomas Coleman and some of what I have came from the Grants.
Ann George was born in Caroline Co, VA. She was named in the Will of her father John George (1784) as "Ann, wife of Robert Woolfolk". This family remained in Caroline Co, VA. Ann died in the late 1780's, and Robert died ca 1791.
source:Marty and Karla Grant

I'm happy to discuss the line with you. Email me privately if you will. Ann George (1730-1775)
Robert Woolfolk (1688-1744) m. Frances Lee
Richard Woolfolk, perhaps the immigrant from England, (1658-c1741) m.
